🎁☺️ 3 december: World Generosity Day. Did you know that when a cat brings you an animal he caught, it’s actually a very generous gift? As cats are pack animals, they often want to share their bounty with their family, and they want to teach their young how to hunt and eat. So, when your cat brings you an animal, be it alive or dead, it means they consider you a part of their family and they want to pass their hunting skills onto their family to improve chances of survival.

🥶❄️ December! Winter is coming and the nights are getting colder and colder. Consider recycling your polystyrene boxes as a shelter for stray cats. It's very simple: assemble your box so that it is waterproof, drill a hole in it for the cat to take refuge in, lay out a little straw or a blanket and place this shelter in a quiet place. Remember to put a bowl of water and some kibbles nearby.

Advice from Adeline Westerling, dog behaviorist and coach: the Autumn blues in our dogs. Some dogs, like us, can get what is known as the autumn blues. The change in weather, especially the drop in temperature combined with the arrival of humidity, and the much shorter days cause discomfort that needs to be addressed. They are very sensitive to the light they receive and tend to lack energy, change their mood and behavior. So provide as much physical and mental exercise as your dog's breed requires, regardless of the climate, by changing routes regularly. As the days get shorter and shorter, try to get as much exercise as possible before dusk so that everyone gets the most benefit. Don't hesitate to stimulate their primary sense: smell. Surprise them by organizing treat hunts or teaching them to track down their toys. These activities not only give them energy and intellectual stimulation, but also sharpen their sense of smell and increase their obedience, as well as prevent behavioral problems due to boredom.

What are feline whiskers?

The vibrissae allow tactile exploration of the environment. They detect air movements and vibrations, your cat can then calculate its jump, move in narrow places, etc. It is therefore important to preserve them, do not cut the vibrissae of your cats. If you find one at home, don't panic, they are like our hairs, they grow back.

The whiskers allow communication, movement and hunting, whether it is day or night.

What is braised in cats? Your cat loses his summer jacket to replace it with his abundant winter coat. To minimize hair loss, it is important to:
🐱Brush your cat regularly to remove dead hair.
🐱To provide your cat with a good quality diet. You will be able to guarantee this thanks to the shine of the coat and the good condition of the skin.
🐱Provide regular and effective antiparasitic treatment to prevent itching.

Here we are in a period of moulting, how to avoid having the hair of your dogs everywhere?

The health of the coat is strongly influenced by diet. During this period, foods fortified with omega-3 and balanced with vitamins are favoured. For example, you can add salmon oil to your puppy’s ration.

Thanks to an adapted brush and regular brushing, you eliminate dead hair faster.

Too many washes can damage your dog’s skin and promote hair loss. Certainly if you use an unsuitable soap.

Limit stress situations that, like us, cause hair loss.

Mopets presents the Scottish Fold: the famous cat with folded ears.

As the name suggests, the Scottish Fold was born in Scotland. His folded ears, due to a genetic mutation, received a mixed reception: some breeders were seduced by this physical particularity, while veterinarians feared deafness of the animal.

The Fold is cuddly, calm, playful and a bit shy. It adapts to everything and everyone if you don’t rush it.

In addition to regular brushing, you must carefully monitor their ears and health! It is not one of the hypoallergenic breeds.

Happy Halloween! Here are some tips to make sure that your dog will have a great Halloween: don’t give him candies, as chocolate is poisonous to a lot of animals, and tin foil and cellophane candy wrappers can be hazardous if swallowed. Be careful of lit pumpkins, as your dog may knock one over or get burned if he gets too close. If you dress up your dog, be sure he likes it and that it isn’t constricting, annoying or unsafe. Finally, except if he is very social, keep your dog in a separate room during trick-or-treat visiting hours, because too many strangers in costumes can be scary for him. 💡 The advice of Adeline Westerling, behaviorist & dog trainer: the "medical training", to get her dog used to veterinary care, is essential to teach our animal that it can be treated and cared for safely and above all with respect for its integrity. Treatment often includes the care that keeps the dog healthy. It is very important to treat all of us very early, every day and in a very gentle and positive way, to the rhythm of our loud!

Are donkeys really stubborn?

In reality, they are rather thoughtful, sensitive to their environment and study it before doing anything. For example, they may slow down on sandy ground or may refuse to cross a bridge. However, show them once that they are safe and they will hold it for the rest of their lives. Indeed, they have an excellent memory.

In addition, the donkey is a good guardian, if something unusual happens in his environment, he will shout to warn those around him.

To take care of his donkey, offer him hay or even a nice pasture. One of the essential attentions is his dressing. Take the opportunity to cuddle him.

A donkey lives about 40 years, this gives you time to live many adventures.

Mopets presents: the Bengal, a small domestic leopard. Known for its great intelligence, the Bengal is a little ball of love but it remains a hunter full of energy.
Wild blood flows in the veins of Bengal, descended from the Asian "Leopard Cat". To create the Bengal, many breeds have been crossed, including the Egyptian Mau. Bengal is a true hybrid race, half wild and half domestic. Besides, it’s a hypoallergenic breed.
Do you dream of adopting a miniature leopard? Active, playful and intelligent, the Bengal has inherited its qualities of a fawn. Add a good dose of affection worthy of a domestic cat, and you have a Bengal!

💡 The advice of Adeline Westerling, behaviorist & dog trainer: did you know? The dog has a very developed eye-sight. He sees much better than human beings at night. Moreover, while a human being has a 180-degree eye-sight, the dog can see up to 240° degrees. However, his binocular vision is less effective than ours. From a colour point of view, the photoreceptors of dogs are also smaller: they have only 1.2 million pixels receptive to blue and yellow in the retina compared to 6 million for human beings. The dog does not distinguish the red color. Your doggie will also not distinguish a yellow tennis ball in the green grass and will find it thanks to its most developed sense: his smell.

Why should we feed the birds?

In autumn and winter, birds in your garden find it even more difficult to find food: Most insects take refuge under the ground, there are no berries to search for, and because of rain and snow there are virtually no seeds. The days are also shorter, which means they have less time to find food, and they also need extra food to maintain their body temperature. In autumn migratory birds prepare for their long journey to warmer places. So give your garden birds tasty seeds and fat balls, and make sure you place the feeder at least one and a half meters away from the ground because of the cats.

October 13 : National Pet Obesity Day

Pets come in all shapes and sizes, but sometimes sizes get a little out of hand. That’s why on October 13 we recognize National Pet Obesity Day to remind people to keep their pets healthy. When your pooch starts getting a little plump, you know it’s time for a few things. More walks, less table scraps, and perhaps even an additional visit to the vet to make sure they’re still healthy.

Do cats see like us?
No, they don't. Thanks to studies carried out by various centers/clinics, we know that cats possess highly developed night vision and therefore see more easily than we humans do in the dark. Cats are able to detect very fast movements thanks to a reflective zone in their eyes, called « tapetum lucidum », allowing them to be formidable hunters. During the day, the cat sees blurred when what it is trying to look at is far away; its sharp vision being between 20 and 80cm. As for colors, blue and yellow are the most detectable by cats, while green appears whitish and red is almost invisible. This is explained by a majority of rod cells - responsible for the black and white - in their retina, then of cone cells - which allow the conversion of the light into color.

9 October: World Disability Day
If you are the owner of a disabled pet, you know that many people aren’t even aware that pets with special needs exist. That’s why Mopets.com exists: to bring all the pet lovers together and to share their own experiences with their animals.

When it comes to caring for a disabled pet, it’s important to establish a daily routine, like getting up at 6 a.m., checking his blood sugar levels, and feeding him at a consistent time. . . By getting into a routine, it becomes much easier to motivate yourself to take care of a special needs pet. Your pet, too, will appreciate the structure and routine you provide for him. He is less likely to get upset if he can more or less predict the actions that each day will bring.

National Black Dog Day on October 1st encourages the adoption of a dog in the darker shades. Black dogs are less likely to be adopted for no other reason than their coloring. It’s crazy but true! Even today, there are still people who mistakenly believe that black dogs are bad omens and harbingers of rotten luck. Unfortunately, too many black dogs languish in shelters because people are hesitant to adopt them. Today is the day to give black dogs the love they deserve!

Info from Adeline Westerling, coach and canine behaviorist: does the dog have a positive impact on our physical and mental health?
Yes, and many studies prove that having a dog allows you to benefit from:
reduced stress and anxiety through lower blood pressure and slower heart rate;
a significant reduction in the level of cortisol (the stress hormone) thanks to moments of caresses and walks in the fresh air;
a natural antidepressant because the dog does not judge us, he loves us as we are without artifice. It therefore improves self-esteem and our mood. Taking care of your dog occupies the mind and helps to get rid of negative thoughts.

Buying a dog in a few clicks, is it smart? Not always ! Indeed, due to a high demand for purebred dogs among breeders and their high purchase price, Eastern Europe is unfortunately notorious for its puppy mills. Transported in horrible conditions, unvaccinated, often carriers of diseases, these unscrupulous breeders absolutely do not respect the strict breeding conditions applied in Western Europe and even less the well-being of these animals. How to avoid such an abomination? By opting for a licensed breeder or, even better, by adopting from a shelter in your area.

Info from Adeline Westerling, behaviourist and dog coach.
Did you know that dogs can see in colour, but only green, yellow, blue and purple? That's why our friends will find an orange or red ball in the grass, not thanks to their sight, but thanks to their sense of smell. Dogs also perceive colours in a paler way than we do. Therefore, choose toys in the colours they perceive to further stimulate their environment and their senses!
