Here is the initial post I made to a pit bull rescue group asking for help. I had just revisited her and stayed in her area for almost an hour.

"Hoping for help to find directions for hands-on rehabilitation for a feral 3 yr old pit mix found on the Navajo Reservation. She's been in a rescue care unit for over 3 months yet has not been able to be touched. It's a big commitment that will take considered dedication to time, but I just lost my 17 yr old dog and am looking for a positive way to process my grief so am considering working to help rehabilitate her to make it possible for her to be adopted. Does there happen to by any groups, a particular person, perhaps an excellent book or program that is suggested? I've worked with abused horses, rescued pits from fighting rings, and tamed wild animals, but not an adult dog that has been feral all her life with built-in distrust of humans. Any direction would be highly appreciated to ensure I'll be taking the right track. Thank you for any and all comments. She's pretty much the real deal, pretty intimidating, but has suspicion, not aggression, in her eyes. Kindness, even, if you zoom in far enough."

This is the picture that grabbed my attention. Those eyes....there is kindness in there. I had a 17-year family member in my previous dog, Moxie, who used to ride on my motorcycles with me, hiked, camped, went everywhere with me. Looking for a place to put and process my grief, I considered working with a dog who needed rehabilitation help, so I set up an appointment to visit the facility. None of the other dogs grabbed my heart like this one, so I asked if I could see her once again. They let me into her large enclosed area where she allowed me a few feet before a low, suspicious, and consistent growl began. I stopped, turned slightly to the side, and continued to conversations. After a few minutes, she seemed to slow down the frequency of her growls which was slightly encouraging. She has been there for about four months and no one has petted her, still extremely aloof and suspicious, with zero indication of a desire to connect with a human. As I have another dog, cats, husband, and live in a domestic neighborhood, adoption was completely out of the picture, but she had my heart as I drove away with her presence still with me...
