So many of you have been asking about Otis, so we wanted to share an update…Otis was ADOPTED! Wohoo! Otis was at SLO Animal Services and was deteriorating fast in his kennel. He wasn’t getting any adoption interest and needed to get out of the shelter fast. A wonderful foster took him in and realized he was basically perfect! He got quite a few applications, and ended up getting adopted by his perfect family! Here is an update they wrote for him ☺️

Otis has been the best addition to our family. He is a lovable little pittie potato who loves to be tucked into a blankey. He loves his sister, Remi (also a slo county shelter adoptee), even though she’s taken some time to warm up to his big goofy antics. He always respects her boundaries and brings her toys as little gifts. He has a weapon of a thwapper (tail) and gives us smiles when we come home every day. He loves to play with our neighbors dog and does little bunny hops out of excitement! He absolutely loves toys while they last. Otis loves to go on little adventures and meet all the new people, giving everyone smiles and thwappies. One of the most gentle pitties I’ve ever met.

Otis was an easy introduction to our family. I will forever support the dogs at slo county animal shelter and encourage everyone to talk with the volunteers to help finding the right fit for your families!

These dogs know how to have fun! Last weekend, volunteers took Doja, Pickles, and Django on a field trip! We learned a lot about all three dogs and how they interact outside of the shelter!

Doja, the gray and white pittie, is fearless and wanted to sniff and explore the entire time! She enjoyed playing in the leaves and jumping in the creek! She is an energetic dog and seemed to want to continue walking and sniffing even when it was time to go back to the shelter.

Pickles, the black and white pittie, was a little less confident outside of the shelter, but still enjoyed his walk with his doggie friends. He needs some convincing to get into the car, but is fine once you get going! Pickles did great on the walk and sat very nicely for pictures too! He is treat motivated and eager to please!

Django, the German shepherd, was just recently surrendered to the shelter and was a bit overwhelmed with the hustle and bustle of the park we went to. He is very loyal and wanted to stay near the volunteers that had him out. Django loved the water and is improving on his leash skills…he was walking on a loose leash after a few minutes of leash work! We kept him at a distance from the other dogs as they seemed to be making him uncomfortable, but he still very much enjoyed his time out of the shelter!

To meet Doja, Pickles, or Django, stop by the shelter during open kennel hours Monday-Saturday 1:00-5:00 or call the shelter at (805) 781-4400 to make an appointment to meet them!

We have another tri-pod that just became available for adoption…and he already got to go on a field trip! Meet Scout, a 2 year old Belgian Malinois that came in as a stray and, after recovering from his front leg amputation, is now ready to wiggle his way into your heart! Scout may have lost a leg, but his spirit has not dwindled in the slightest! Here is what an awesome volunteer had to say about her fieldtrip with Scout:

Scout is just an amazing dog. He was Mr. Congeniality with dogs and most of all people. Scout received pets hugs and even treats from Tails in downtown San Luis Obispo. He’s is just stunning! He did great in the car, took treats gently, and is a great at cuddling. He was a little confused about the stuffed llama!

If you want to meet Scout, stop by the shelter during open kennel hours Monday-Saturday 1:00-5:00 (closed tomorrow 2/12) or call the shelter at (805) 781-4400 to make an appointment to meet him!

Are you coming to meet me?? My name is Cleo. And I am an adorable Anatolian mix.I was adopted here and then surrendered here for being afraid. Puppies need a lot of socialization. We need to get out and about and see lots of stuff so we can think everything is good and ok. I am a really happy girl who may need some encouraging. But if you think my cute fluffy self is what you have been looking for, come and meet me. And if you have a confidant dog that could help show me the ropes, that'd be even better. I get along with kids, dogs and even cats! I am going to be a big girl when I am fully grown. I am 6 months old now and I weigh about 40 pounds. Anyway, If you would like to be my ticket out of the shelter, please come and meet me. We are open from 1-5 Monday through Saturday (closed this Wednesday 2/12) and appointments can be made by calling 805 781 4400. Can't wait to meet you!

Hi! My name is Gracie and I am a one year old Border Collie Whippet cross. I am a happy, sweet and fun girl! I am a perfect medium dog size, weighing about 40 pounds. I get along with other dogs and would love a doggie companion. When you met me you will see I have an unusual gait. It doesn't keep me from getting around and playing. I was seen by a vet and they thought I had some nerve issues in my back legs. It doesn't get me down tho. I walk nicely on a leash, I like to play, and really like to hang with my people. I don't get along with chicken and cats are an unknown. I would do best in a home with older kids or dog savvy kids. If you are thinking about a new perfect friend, please come to San Luis Obispo Animal Services. We are open from 1-5 Monday though Saturday ( Closed Wednesday 2/12) for visiting. Please come on in and meet me!

Who remembers Linus? Linus was recently scooped up by a wonderful adopter that drove hours to come meet him…and it was love at first sight! From sitting at the shelter for months and being too scared to even leave his kennel to now spending every day adventuring…we couldn’t be happier for him! Here is a beautifully written update on Linus (now Leo) that we got from his adopters ❤️

Meet Leo (formerly Linus)! He’s settling into our family beautifully, sharing his love with us and his big brother, Brutus. Any signs of anxiety have vanished, and it’s heartwarming to see him gain bravery from Brutus. Leo has quickly adapted to our routine, enjoying morning zoomies at the dog park, cozy afternoon naps with Brutus, and family walks every evening. He adores his dad and has become fearless around new faces. Our hikes, beach trips, and park visits have been a breeze for him! Leo is not only well-trained but also has a big heart, craving nightly cuddles after playtime. We couldn’t be happier—Leo has finally found the loving home he deserves, and we cherish every moment cuddling and brushing him until he snores next to Brutus. He’s ours forever, loved beyond measure!

This gorgeous dog is Chunk! He is 2 years old and is listed as a Rhodesian ridgeback mix. Chunk is a good dog that is unfortunately regressing in the shelter environment 😕 He used to be comfortable in his kennel and would lay on his cot and chew on his toys. Now he is stressed and paces in his kennel until he gets to go outside. Once he is outside he is so happy! Chunk LOVES to play fetch and likes to carry as many tennis balls in his mouth as possible! He is a fantastic listener and has great training potential. He comes when you call him and checks in with you on walks! He is active and enjoys going on runs around the agility yard. Chunk is loyal and will make a great companion for someone! A big backyard and tennis balls to play fetch with is all he wants 💚 To meet Chunk, stop by the shelter during open kennel hours Monday-Saturday 1:00-5:00 or call the shelter at (805) 781-4400 to make an appointment to meet him!

Bella the rottie (mix) is hoping to find a forever family to love her! She is only a puppy at 9 months old and has a whole life of excitement and adventures ahead of her 😉 She loves to go-go-go and enjoys going on walks and runs! Once she’s burned off a little energy, she will lay in the grass and wait for you to give her belly rubs! Bella has a loving and sweet temperament and is a people-dog, meaning she enjoys the company of people the most! Bella can get overstimulated by other dogs at the shelter and could use some training on staying focused while passing dogs on walks. She is a smart dog and eager to learn, and she is already improving with this! Bella would make a great companion for someone that has some training experience or is willing to learn. She would love to join you on long hikes or runs to see what life has to offer outside of the shelter! To meet Bella, stop by the shelter during open kennel hours Monday-Saturday 1:00-5:00 or call the shelter at (805) 781-4400 to make an appointment to meet her!

How can this handsome pup still be waiting for his forever home?! Bolt has been at the shelter for three months! He is only a year old and is ready to start his life with his forever family! Bolt is a social, friendly dog and is always ready for an adventure! He has loved every dog he has ever met, and enjoys the company of people too! He would make a great playmate for another dog in his forever home! Bolt recently went on an offsite field trip and did fantastic hiking with another dog and greeting strangers. He has not shown any aggression or reactivity at all and is just a happy-go-lucky guy! He is young and needs a bit of work on his leash training, but overall he is a great dog with a kind disposition. If you are looking for an active dog to add some adventure into your life, come meet Bolt! Stop by the shelter during open kennel hours Monday-Saturday 1:00-5:00 or call the shelter at (805) 781-4400 to make an appointment to meet him!

Beefcake only has eyes for you! This big ole low rider pittie is more than ready for his forever home! Beefcake is a volunteer favorite and has such a funny, entertaining personality! He LOVES people and has made some doggie friends at the shelter too. Beefcake is stubborn and will plop himself on the ground if he is too tired to walk anymore 😂 We have taken him hiking a couple times and, though his endurance is low, he always has a blast! Beefcake is probably more equipped for a walk or short hike and then will be ready to cuddle on the couch with you! He has had many adoption appointments, but hasn’t been chosen yet. Beefcake has a lot of pent up energy in his kennel (because he only gets out twice a day), so he seems like he is rambunctious and overzealous when he meets potential adopters. We know that he really is a couch potato type dog and acts hyper because he has been sitting in a kennel all day and is SO happy to be meeting people! Beefcake needs someone that can trust that he will calm down in a home! Beefcake is only two and a half years old and is ready to find a family to love him forever ❤️ To meet Beefcake, stop by the shelter during open kennel hours Monday-Saturday 1:00-5:00 or call the shelter at (805) 781-4400 to make an appointment to meet him!

Clover is loving her time in foster care, but is hoping to find her forever home soon! Clover is a 1.5 year old Kelpie with a lot of love to give. SLO Animal Services pulled Clover from a busy LA shelter to help make room for pets displaced by the fires. She was a favorite at her old shelter, and she is a favorite with her current foster family. She can be shy at first, but she quickly warms up and is incredibly gentle.

Clover loves to be around people, seeks out attention from kids, and would make a wonderful family dog. She is playful, loves to cuddle, is house trained and crate trained. She would thrive having another dog friend at home to pal around with. She chases cats so best to avoid them.

Clover is a 3-legged dog, which means she can have a happy and fulfilling life with the right care and family. Due to her special mobility needs, Clover would do best in a single level home with carpet or rugs (she slips on any smooth surfaces), with easy access to an enclosed yard. Clover does have a medical waiver to outline her previous injury and future needs. Please call 805-781-4400 and mention Clover’s ID A319369 to get in contact with her foster today!

Lagatha is a model! She stood still for one moment, then got crazy zoomies right after! This petite pittie is only two years old and ready to find her forever home! Lagatha is chill in her kennel and spends time laying on her cot and chewing on bones or toys. She is good at playing independently and will keep herself occupied with an enrichment puzzle or frozen Kong! Though she is quiet and mellow, she also has an energetic side and is known for her zoomies! She is unreactive to dogs she sees out on her walks and has been fine walking with other dogs in a pack. Lagatha has a nice temperament and is not overly rambunctious. She does not jump up on people and listens pretty well to direction. Lagatha would be a great dog for someone that can take her on daily walks, though she doesn’t seem to want/need to walk for miles and miles. She would likely love to cuddle on the couch too! If Lagatha sounds like a good match for you and your lifestyle, call the shelter at (805) 781-4400 to make an appointment to meet her or stop by the shelter during open kennel hours Monday-Saturday 1:00-5:00!

Okay everyone, it seriously doesn’t get any cuter than this! A malamute with a rose…adorable! This beautiful pup is Ivan! He is only a year old and is hoping to find his forever home soon! Ivan has been adopted and returned a couple times…sometimes people don’t realize that bringing a dog home is a big commitment and the dogs need more than a couple days to decompress! Most of the dogs at the shelter have been bounced around from home to home, or have never had a home to call their own. They may be nervous, confused, and/or anxious when you initially adopt them, so it’s important that adopters realize that the dogs will need some time before they feel comfortable. Ivan is hoping that his next home will be his forever home and he won’t have to bounce around anymore! Ivan is more than just a beautiful dog…he has a fun, loving personality! He listens well and is attentive when on walks. He walks well with other dogs in a pack and has been fine playing with some dogs, but gets annoyed with overly hyper dogs that jump on him. If you have another dog, a meet and greet with Ivan and the dog would be best to see if the dogs are a good match. Ivan has a nice balance of energy too…he would love to join you on daily walks, but doesn’t need to be exercised a crazy amount to feel fulfilled! To meet Ivan, stop by the shelter during open kennel hours Monday-Saturday 1:00-5:00 or call the shelter at (805) 781-4400 to make an appointment to meet him!

Adoptable dog Nova went on a first with an awesome volunteer! She got an A+ report card from her outing ☺️ Here is what the volunteer had to say about her time with Nova: Nova is an amazing dog. She did well in the car, is very smart and is working on her basic commands. She definitely needs someone who’s willing and has the time to train her, but she’s smart and treat motivated. Several dogs passed that she wanted to engage into playing with her. Nova is still young and is quite a catch! Everyone commented on her looks and friendly demeanor. She would make a great hiking buddy or family dog. She’s still got puppy energy! Nova is at the shelter and waiting to meet you! To meet Nova, stop by the shelter during open kennel hours Monday-Saturday 1:00-5:00 or call the shelter at (805) 781-4400 to make an appointment to meet her!

Roxy loved all the attention she got during her a photoshoot 🥰! we thought she might give us a hard time with the glasses and other accessories, but to our surprise she sat perfectly still and was a wonderful model! Roxy is a beautiful 4 year old pittie mix that is getting completely overlooked- she has not had hardly any interest since arriving at the shelter over two months ago! Roxy is as loyal as they come and just wants to be your best friend. She loves going on walks and is eager to explore all the new smells! She is an active girl and would likely enjoy being your running partner or hiking buddy! Roxy is stressed at the shelter and gets barky in her kennel. Once she is out of the kennel, she calms down a bit and is more interested in her walk than anything else going on around her. Roxy is a strong pup and could use some training to help her walk more calmly on the leash, but she is eager to please and we think she will pick it up easily! To meet Roxy, stop by the shelter during open kennel hours and Monday-Saturday 1:00-5:00 or call the shelter at (805) 781-4400 to make an appointment to meet her!

Hi! My name is Django. I am a five year old, male German Shepherd Dog. I was surrendered to San Luis Obispo Animal Services for being vocal. Anyone who knows shepherds knows we are talkers! Some more than other - but we ALWAYS have an opinion. Anyway, my talking landed me here. My people did have nice things to say about me. I am good with all dogs, can even be good with cats depending on the situation. I am a BIG boy - I weigh about 85 pounds so little kids might find me overwhelming. However, dog savy kids of any size would be great! I am a sweetheart. I know commands, I take treats softly and did I mention how handsome I am? Anyway, I would love a new family! Please come to San Luis Obispo Animal Services to meet me. We are ope for visitation from 1-5 Monday though Saturday and until 7 pm on Wednesdays. If you'd like an appointment or more info, please call 805 781 4400. I cannot wait to meet you!
