It’s a rainy and windy day, so the dogs at the shelter are snuggled up in their kennels and staying dry. Luckily Nova and Sonic got a good romp around in before the bad weather hit! Sonic, the brindle dog, is the cutest boxer/pittie mix EVER! He has a little boxer tail and is wags so fast when he gets excited! Sonic has loved every dog he has met, and is eager to see what life is like outside of the shelter! He is only 9 months old and is friendly, energetic, and soooo lovable. Nova, the black dog, is 2 years old but acts like a puppy! She has also done great with other dogs here at the shelter, and wants to meet every dog she sees! She gets a bit overly excited once she gets out of her kennel, but once she has burned off some energy she is much better. Nova recently went on a field trip and had a blast walking around downtown and meeting people! She was curious about the new things around her and excited to be out and about! To meet Sonic or Nova, stop by the shelter during open kennel hours Monday-Saturday 1:00-5:00 or call the shelter at (805) 781-4400 to make an appointment to meet them!
The sweet husky is one of our longest residents! We have learned a lot about Samwell since he arrived, and he is proving to be a pretty great dog! Samwell came into the shelter as a stray back in early November, but was not redeemed. He is only a year old, so that is a good portion of his life spent in a kennel! Samwell has done well with other dogs at the shelter and has made a few friends that he loves to play with. He does well walking with other dogs in a pack and is not overly focused on dogs when he is out and about! Samwell is easily entertained…he is a HUGE fan of stuffed toys and also loves enrichment activities! He will sit with his toys and play by himself for a good while! Samwell is not super noisy in his kennel and is always excited to get out for a walk. Though he is a 1 year old husky, he is not overly rambunctious. We would still recommend he go to a home that can give him daily exercise though as he is adventurous and wants to explore! Samwell is well mannered and will make a great addition to a loving family. To meet Samwell, stop by the shelter during open kennel hours Monday-Saturday 1:00-5:00 or call the shelter at (805) 781-4400 to make an appointment to meet him!
There is some major rain headed our way, so now is the time to prepare to keep your dogs safe and content! One way that you can help your dog from going stir crazy while it’s pouring outside is to put their breakfast/dinner in a frozen Kong! You can add their kibble or wet food, along with some peanut butter, pumpkin, or mashed banana. Stick it in the freezer the night before and it’s a perfect enrichment activity! This is a BIG hit for most dogs…as you can see, adoptable dog Zorro is a big fan of frozen kongs 😂 We are also expecting strong winds, so it is very important to make sure your gates are securely locked and your animals have no way of escaping. SLO Animal Services has absolutely no room to take in a large influx of strays…if there are no empty kennels for dogs to go into, they have to make empty kennels, which puts the dogs currently at the shelter in danger. Please make sure your dogs are safe inside and away from the wind and rain we are expecting in the coming days! The shelter is closed tomorrow (2/12), but open for their normal hours the rest of the week (1:00-5:00). If you are looking to adopt, stop by and see if we have the right dog for you!
Let’s find Autumn her forever home! Autumn used to glue herself to the floor anytime anyone tried to walk her…look at her now! Thanks to some awesome volunteers, Autumn has made so much progress. She is still nervous and a bit apprehensive of new things, but she has made great strides! Autumn is 3 years old and is a medium sized pittie mix. She has done well with other dogs and might enjoy the company of another confident dog to show her the ropes. Autumn would thrive with an owner that has patience and realizes she is not going to be completely comfortable right away in her forever home. Patience is key with this girl, but it’s worth it! Autumn is a loving, sweet soul and is ready to ditch the kennel and find her forever family! To meet Autumn, stop by the shelter during open kennel hours Monday-Saturday 1:00-5:00 or call the shelter at (805) 781-4400 to make an appointment to meet her!
