Saw all of these beautiful birds this morning while at a client’s home. So many little babies and different species all getting along and enjoying the rain together. They don’t care if the bird next to them looks different, acts different, or sounds different. They are just living in the moment and enjoying each other’s company. Animals are so precious. We have so much to learn from them. 🌳 🦆 🌧️

I’ve never met a cat who loves their scratch pads as much as Maggie May. She sleeps on them, tears them apart for fun, and scratches them a million times a day. 🥰

It is National Kitten Day and I would like to share my kitten’s story. Maggie May was hit by a car when she was under two pounds. She broke her left hind leg and her pelvis. Someone brought her into Pasco County Animal Services (thank god) and she was pulled by a local rescue, Runaways Animal Rescue. Her estimated birthday is 9/23/22.

The vet believed she may lose her leg and at the time X-rays were taken and she was put on cage rest. I went to Runaways wanting to foster. It’s something I’m passionate about and I have fostered dozens of litters of kittens of the years. I took a tour of the facility and the moment I saw Maggie (at the time her name was Mittens) something in my heart exploded. I couldn’t get her out of my mind after I got home. I put in a foster application for her the same day and I became her foster mom on 12/4/22.

I could see it in her eyes that she needed out. She looked so sad and confused. She’d been on cage rest for weeks in the county shelter and now this shelter. There are concerns for any species when they are in a shelter. It’s stressful, loud, and confusing. Additionally, kittens are at a higher risk because they can pick up a variety of health issues, parasites, and fleas, etc. and their little bodies and immune system is not fully developed so any negative impacts on their bodies takes a toll. I’ve specialized in working with traumatized dogs and cats for many years.

I knew Maggie was going to have a lot of trauma and fear issues as she grew up. I knew that she’d been through a lot and is lucky to be alive. I knew that she would struggle in a home with kids running around and chaos. The thought of her getting out of someone’s house and getting hit by a car again terrified me. If she was going to have to lose her leg, I wanted to be the one to help her through that since her whole life she fought alone.

I connected with her on a very deep level and the way she looked at me… I can’t describe it. I just knew she was meant to be with me. I adopted Maggie on 1/9/23. I got a second opinion and she doesn’t need to lose her leg. She is now a beautiful, smart, funny, playful, and loving cat. I’m so proud of her. 💜
