🫒 Marsbar
I will be breeding Marsbars again for the 2025 season and I will have hatching eggs, s*xed female chicks and pullets. Photos below of the eggs from some of our previous offspring.
If you're after more colour for your egg box, I will have olive, blue and white ready at point of lay early next year. I have an active wait list for next year's hens already so if you'd like to have priority updates when they're ready, let me know and I can add you on to the list

I'm sure a lot of you would have received the APHA update on a local case of bird flu confirmed this evening which is miserable news.
For those within the 3km protection zone, there is a housing order now in place. Those that fall within the 10km zone, there is now a restriction on any movement of poultry.
Map below for reference and I will post the links in the comments.
We fall just outside of the 10km zone but will be taking action to safeguard our birds as much as possible.
If you'd like any advice, feel free to message me or see the .gov website is a great resource for more information

Hi everyone. I'm currently contemplating applying for my poultry slaughter licence as I'm aware there is a demand for a poultry processing service for smallholders raising birds for meat, but it would be a substantial investment to get it set up right, so I'm really keen for any feedback if this is a service you would use or be interested in and also if you have any questions. Whether this is something that would be worthwhile doing is yet to be decided on but always good to have a project in the pipeline 😆🤔😁

Serama 🧡
Back to breed introductions...!
Super tiny but with big characters. Friendly and easy to tame, the serama is curious and talkative and they make lovely pets. I will be breeding these sweet little birds again for the 2025 season- frizzle and smooth feathered. I also have some off heat pullets ready now. If you'd like more info, please message direct 📩
I will be posting a full 2025 breed list to recap them all next week 🙂

Youngest boy's morning routine, riding down to feed his piggies before school 🩷 makes me super proud. The pigs are growing well- loving their snuffles and snorts.
Pork will be available from early next year and there is talk of piglets on the cards for next year too 🤭🐽🩷

The littlest emus are growing biiig!
They've just turned 3 months old and hoping to DNA s*x them very soon once I have tagged them as I can't tell the little devils apart easily 😅
Eggy, Chips and Sausage at the end of the video have just turned 9 months old. Integrating emus is not an easy task so they communicate through the fence until the youngsters have grown on a bit more then will introduce them slowly and hopefully successfully 🤞
Eliza and George remain in their own separate paddock as a pair for the breeding season 🩷

🤣🤣🤣 Seems about right . Happy Monday chicken lovers 🐓

💜 Guinea Fowl
These wild little birds are a great addition to any smallholding. Well known for their alarm calls they will let you know as soon as they see an intruder or predator but generally they just enjoy making noise 😆 They are superb foragers and love to free range and roost on high perches and in trees. They are not easy to tame and best left to roam with plenty of freedom. Super fun to keep! I will have hatching eggs and keets again in 2025 💜

Transylvanian Naked Necks ❤️
Those who have been following the page will know that these are a solid favourite of mine ! They aren't everyone's cup of tea 🤭 their interesting vulturine appearance shouldn't put you off though! They are friendly and easy to keep dual purpose birds laying around 170 light brown eggs per year 🥚
I look forward to offering hatching eggs and chicks for 2025 and have some young growers in the brooder now so keep an eye for availability shortly 🙂

So bird flu is rearing it's ugly head again. no mandatory housing order ... yet, but the risk level has been increased from medium to high as a case of H5N5 has been confirmed at a commercial premises in Yorkshire so it's best to be prepared:

Good biosecurity is essential as we move into winter. More on the gov uk website :
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/avian-influenza-bird-flu

This can be daunting for first time keepers, but feel free to message for any advice and i will be more than happy to help. We maintain strict biosecurity year-round, but still implementing a few extra measures to keep our birds safe through winter 🌨🐔❤

At this stage, important actions you can take for your backyard flock are:
🔸️Minimise the risk of wild bird contamination and rodent contamination- ensure feed and water for your birds is under cover and inaccessible.
🔹️Clean and disinfect housing and runs regularly and dip footwear with Defra approved disinfectant
🔸️Familiarise yourself with bird flu symptoms and register for updates and alerts (follow gov.uk link ⬆️)

The signs of bird flu and how to report it in poultry and other captive birds.

🩵 Cream Legbar 🩵
Blue egg layers which are popular for their auto-s*xing trait, meaning chicks can be s*xed at day old by their feather colouring. They can be quite flighty and skittish but thrive with lots of space and the hens are fantastic layers that rarely go broody.
I will have hatching eggs and s*xed chicks from these birds from early 2025. I will also have blue egg laying hybrid hens ready at point of lay from late February 😁
