OTOP DES CARTOUCHES DOREES X THENA DES GRANDES ORIGINES

Sire: OTOP DES CARTOUCHES DOREES
In 2022 and 2023, Otop was the #1 winning griffon in French field trials, which is the first time since 1976 a dog has won back-to-back years. In 2023, he won the prestigious PRIX DUTILLEUX, which is the French Korthals of the Year award, and the URBAN FABRE trophy, which is given to the top dog on wild game during the spring field trials. Winning two of the most prestigious trophies in the same year is a tremendous accomplishment! Along the way, he became a Champion des fields d'automne, a Champion des fields de printemps, Champion de France de Conformité au standard, and a Champion des expositions nationales.

Interestingly, his sire line goes back to Romignone de Cornilly and Hudson des Rives de L’Aure, albeit via a slightly different path than my female Tessa de la Coipeane. I plan to write a very in-depth post about these pedigree differences, but for now just know that his sire, Ilion du Ruisseau de Rossignol and grandsire Bambo de Cornilly, who is Romignone’s son, are all-time great field trailers.

Dam: THENA DES GRANDES ORIGINES
Thena is the most promising field trial dog we own. She shares similar bloodlines with RirI. Her grandmother is Griffonne des Grandes Origines, Riri’s mother. 71% of her three generation ancestors are Cotation 6. All of them are dual field and conformation champions, and 10 out of 14 have multiple puppies that are dual field and conformation champions. This is unmatched, and it took her breeders, Bernard and Henriette Faussurier, decades of breeding, training, and campaigning to accomplish. I am very grateful for all their hard work.

In her first field trial this February, at 15 months of age she was awarded a special HQN prize for “high natural abilities”. She is a big running, hard charging, athletic and beautiful gal.

She passed her TAN (test of Natural Ability) last June. Her conformation was rated “Excellent” by the Korthals Griffon United States club, and she is in the middle of the height range of the written standard.

RIRI DES GRANDES ORIGINES x TESSA DE LA COIPEANE - #1 - (Fall/Winter 2024)

Sire: RIRI DES GRANDES ORIGINES
In 2023, Riri was awarded the TROPHEE GRIFFON KORTHALS EUROPE, which is given to the griffon who won the most points in European field trials outside of France.

In four years, Riri competed in 36 field trials across France, Italy and Slovakia, earning his Championship title in all three countries, including the following:
- Championship of the Field (Italy)
- Championship of the Field (Slovakia)
- International Championship of the Field & Trialer (France)
- BREP (deep water retrieving title in France)

He has been equally successful in Conformation, competing in 25 bench shows across France, Italy and Monaco and winning Best of Breed 11 times and 2nd PlacE 3 times, earning the following titles.
- Champion of France
- Champion of International Beauty
- Champion of Beauty in Monaco

As he earned these Conformation titles, he went Best of Breed at the Championnat De France, the most important bench show in France, and at the Societe Canine De Monaco’s International Dog Show.

Dam: TESSA DE LA COIPEANE
Tessa's bloodlines offer the most direct and successful lineage back to Hudson des Rives de L’Aure, the all-time winningest griffon, that I am aware. Importantly, this connection is made thru Hudson’s most important daughter, Romignone de Cornilly, who won the 2004 PRIX DUTILLEUX (Korthals of the Year in France). Tessa’s father, Lucas de la Coipeane, won the 2021 French National Elevage and the breed at the 2022 World Dog Show. Her grandfather is Eole de Cornilly, and great-grandfather is Vlad des Coteaux de Bidos, the 2008 PRIX DUTILLEUX winner. All of whom were field trial and conformation champions in multiple countries.

Tessa passed her TAN (test of Natural Ability) last spring and her conformation was rated “Excellent” by the KG-USA club. She was hunted often on wild chukar this winter. And now she is in training for her NAVHDA UT test in Fall 2025. She is on the small end of the conformation standard, but she is a complete spitfire.

Riri’s accomplishments continue to arise. The Club Français Griffon Korthals has awarded him the TROPHEE GRIFFON KORTHALS EUROPE for 2023!!!

This award goes to the dog that has distinguished itself in field competitions organized outside France in the European area. In 2023, Riri only competed for 6 months before moving the the U.S., yet he earned 111 points, which tied him with his kennel mate Roma for the award.

KG-USA is now accepting entries for its third spring UKC Field Trial. It will be held on BLM property about 3 miles south of Narrows, OR on May 4th and 5th.

The entry form for all UKC field trials is pinned at the top of the Korthals Griffon United States FB group page along with the Jotform link that allows you to pay online.

The next generation of my dogs are well represented by 15 month old Thena des Grandes Origines! She has more natural, god-given talent than any dog I’ve owned. As a big running, hard charging, athletic, and beautiful gal, she will be dynamite in the chukar hills!

She isn’t steady yet, but still impressed the judges this weekend at Korthals Griffon United States UKC field trial so much they awarded her a special HNQ prize for “high natural abilities”!

Riri des Grandes Origines and I ran in our first UKC field trial together, passing the GUN class with aplomb. He is literally teaching me the game. The future is very bright! Chukar hunting with Riri is amazing!!! He is a bird finding machine!!! Five straight days of hunting where he ran over 25 miles each day and found at least 8 coveys. 👏👏👏

I finally received Riri’s official pedigree. Sure is a lot of acronyms!!! It took over a decade of breeding, training, exhibiting, and hunting to achieve such high level results across some many generations. Kudos to and Bernard Faussurier for the great accomplishment!!

It is with great pleasure that the Board of KG-USA announces our 2024 schedule of Field Trials, pending final UKC approval. We hope every one of our griffon-loving friends can attend.

Each trial day will include a Test of Natural Ability (TAN), Gun and Open class events. Some will incorporate Brace work and Water Retrieve Tests. All with include an opportunity to have your dog’s conformation “Confirmed”.

Riri and I finished our first chukar hunt together these past few days. He is epic. One day he ran 28 miles to my 4.8 miles. He pointed about 20 coveys over three days and the freezer is now full!

What a wonderful surprise!!! I just received the Club Francais du Griffon Korthals’ bi-annual magazine and saw that my latest import, Riri des Grandes Origines, is the #2 ranked field trial griffon thru the first half of the year with 980 points.

His 2023 field trials were held in Spain, Italy and Solvakia, not France, so he is shown on the “Etranger” list. Overall, including all French field trials, he would be the #3 griffon, right behind Roma (1410 pts) and Otop des Cartouches Dorees (1070 pts). Otop is shown on the magazine cover.

This success is entirely due to the hard work and great training of Bernard Faussurier and Henriette Faussurier, his breeders, trainer, and handler. I am forever grateful to them for allowing me to bring him to the US.

I am thrilled to announce that RIRI DES GRANDES ORIGINES is now in the US and available at stud to approved bi***es.

At only 3.5 years of age, he competed in 36 field trial across France, Italy and Slovakia, earning his Championship title in all three countries, including the following:
- Championship of the Field (Italy)
- Championship of the Field (Slovakia)
- International Championship of the Field & Trialer (France)
- BREP (deep water retrieving title in France)

He has been equally successful in Conformation, competing in 25 bench shows across France, Italy and Monaco and winning Best of Breed (CACS/CACIB) 11 times and 2nd Place (RCAC/RCACIB) 3 times, earning the following titles.
- Champion of France (ChFCS)
- Champion of International Beauty (ChIB)
- Champion of Beauty in Monaco (ChMC)

He is a Cotation 4 now, but I have high hopes that his progeny will lift him to a Cotation 6 soon. His first litter was born late last year and two will be born in the coming weeks, all in France.

As he earned these Conformation titles, this spring he went Best of Breed at the Championnat De France, the most important bench show in France, and at the Societe Canine De Monaco’s International Dog Show, another very highly respected European bench show.

His dam, Griffonne Des Grandes Origines, was equally successful, earning her Cotation 6 (Achievement Rating) before she passed in 2022. His sire, Meteor Des Harmas Jade, was the #1 field trial griffon in France in 2020. And in a very rare occurrence, three of Riri’s littermates have also earned their field and conformation Championships and are also Cotation 4.

Riri’s hips are rated “A” (Excellent) as are both of his parents and all his siblings. He is KbKb by parentage. He is 57 cm tall.

And most importantly, he has a very kind and gentle temperament!

This was accomplished through the hard work and deep commitment of his breeders, trainer and handler Bernard Faussurier and Henriette Faussurier. They have spent over two decades developing their line of Korthals Griffons (WPGs) to make this level of achievement possible. I am forever grateful to them for entrusting Riri to me. His career as a chukar hunter starts now!
