We control so much of our dogs’ lives: when they eat, when they walk, where they go to the toilet, how they should behave… and it’s important to remember that training is not just about control, it’s about understanding 🫶
As much as we teach them how to fit into our lives, we must learn to fit into theirs too!
In the case of reactive dogs, we have to recognise that a lot of their behaviour often stems from anxiety or fear. Before diving into any training routines, I always work with them on their nervous system and need for safety FIRST.
But the same is true for all dogs: we need to approach training with empathy and understanding, giving them the time they need to build confidence and trust first 💖

Bo is a 5 month old hyperactive Staffy X Collie who loves being around the children and mama…
So we worked on some boundaries games and got Bo enjoying his crate like it’s his little bedroom.
Puppies need to be asleep more than they are awake, and having somewhere comfy that they love is super important to prevent stress behaviours like barking/whining/nipping, which Bo was exhibiting.
We needed to teach Bo that his bed wasn’t punishment, so he could start seeing it as his safe space where he can take himself off when he wants some peace and quiet too.
Julie came to me after 3 free advice sessions with the Dog Support Network. They were able to discuss her needs and give immediate advice to help Julie implement training giving, and she wanted to get some 1-1 sessions with me. She wanted some in person coaching to show her some techniques, and help Bo get to this point!
We have a long way to go for Bo, but what an amazing start💖

It's so important to let your dogs meet you pet sitter beforehand! Let me tell you about these cuties...
I'm pet sitting them in August when their humans are getting married. They're pretty nervous pups, so we did a meet and greet and some trial walks first.
On trial walk no.1, they were a lil bit nervy! We did some confidence work around my van - sniffing around, getting familiar. And we did some bonding games.
On trial walk no.2.. they came straight out of the house, were all over me, and pulled me into the van!
Such incredible results, their confidence is already coming on so well 💖
We're going to have a blast together in August 🫶

Whew, scorchio! ☀️
I will be taking all necessary safety precautions for my dogs in the heat this week!
→ Water. Goes without saying, making sure I have plenty and that it’s easy access outside/on walks.
→ Time in the sun. Walks may need to be shorter than usual if safety is a concern (clients will be contacted), and I’ll be keeping to shaded areas wherever possible.
→ Cooling. Cool mats, wearable items popped in the freezer, spraying down with water before and after walks.
And of course I’ll constantly have my eye on the temp.
If you have any concerns don’t hesitate to pop me a message and I’ll do whatever I can to help 🫶

Group recall at it's finest! (and cutest). It's so important to do regular check-ins throughout their walk and keep their brains working and engaged. Because i do this, they now know that when i stop walking, that's an automatic recall! 💖
Eat your greens hoomans! Does your dog eat grass? Dogs eat grass for a number of reasons. Number one being: they like it! Dogs are omnivores, so eating both plants and meat is completely natural. Unless there are signs your pup is poorly or is eating grass excessively, you’re good! 💖
