Looks like a little snow has returned this morning to Toronto, so let’s take a moment to go inside and look at adorable kittens. At this age they change so fast, it’s wonderful to have photos that capture them when they are smol.

When I met Rhett and his lovely mum, he had just received a grim prognosis – they were hoping that he still had 2 weeks. With that in mind, we worked feverishly to schedule his session while he was hopefully still feeling good and we would get some wonderful portraits.
 
We met and Rhett shone in his photographs. He brought his little sidekick, Scarlett, to his session and we got some wonderful images solo as well as the two of them together.
 
That was in August 2024.
 
Rhett’s mum and I kept in touch as the 2 weeks turned into 3 and then a month. And then, quite surprisingly, a couple of months. All along Rhett continued to love life and his family enjoyed the extra time.
 
However, this week, his mum wrote to tell me that Rhett had passed away on January 16, 2025 – an incredibly long 5.5 months since his first diagnosis. She added:
 
“Thank you for giving us these amazing photos of Rhett so he can always be with us.”
 
This is why I do what I do and why I encourage you to photograph your dogs and cats often. Do it now. Because these moments captured allow you to keep them with you forever.

Kian is an absolutely stunning red retriever who I had the pleasure to photograph. His coat catches is magnificent in studio lighting.

This week, our HUB Highlights Artist Spotlight is Karen Weiler of Posh Pets Photography!✨

Karen Weiler is an award-winning photographer, specializing in pet portraits and commercial animal photography. Her work with countless families features stunning portraits which showcase the expressive personalities of beloved furry family members, and her commercial work assists brands build their image and campaigns. Karen is currently working on the annual fundraising project called Tails of the World. This is an international endeavour by over 90 photographers in countries across the globe. It is now in its 3rd year and, to date, she has raised over $4,000 donated to local rescue. Globally, the project has raised over $150,000. Karen’s dog images are currently being exhibited as a part of the Toronto Contact Photography Festival throughout the month of May. You can view them at Stackt Market in downtown Toronto.
