When you are involved in a tree planting project, you're involved in environment restoration. This means that once those trees grow, they will provide better surrounding for the biodiversity. You do not create a nice environment and discriminate species you want to see. You won't welcome butterflies and crash lizards, or welcome birds and crash snakes and scorpions. Let's just have a conservationist mindset and develop safe environment and nothing will make us hate some species like snake, scorpion, centipede or spiders. Instead, we will learn ways for us to share the same environment with safety.
Remember we get anti-venom from snake venom, and scorpion venom is used in treatment for cancer and tumor. There is nothing senseless. These were the closing remarks to environmental club members before the closing of schools.

It's because some people choose not to call us. The truth is that we're helping our community when dealing with incidents related to venomous species ( sting or bite). This 4 year old girl was stung by a Parabuthus pallidus. Good enough the parents attended our awareness session. They are aware of the danger of wasting time with such species. Good enough they rushed the child to hospital. She is doing well now.

''For a snake, scorpion, spider or centipede to bite or sting you, it might be close to you. Yet youth are the most exposed to bites and stings. So learn to observe these creatures from a distance. Do not try to kill. They have a meaningful existence in the biodiversity. Learn to appreciate species around your environment and become a young conservationist and save lives by telling people not to disturb any species in their natural habitat. '' we said these words to students' Environmental club members so that they help in spread our safety message to their families and friends.

A two years old girl was bitten by a Garter snake ( harmless species), last Thursday at around 1pm. The litle girl was sick and she was sleeping close to her mother who was hairdressing a relative. The snake might have found moment to take nap where the child was sleeping. As the child moved to change position, she was bitten several times by the snake before it crawled faster into the trees.
The child is having Cytotoxic venom effect on her leg. In the meantime, she doing well. She is playful although she is scratching her leg regularly.

''Educate to save lives; learn to prevent sting/bites''. This is our commitment in reducing the rate of sting and bite around the communities. The message is relevant to all - medical professionals, educators, business owners, sanitation and environment programme. Happy to have trained the Red Cross staffs representatives of different departments. In the meantime, we need to grow and prosper. We need to help many people. We need to sustain our work. Support us, join us, be with us or stand by us with available support.

We are committed to volunteer, because lives of people are involved in. We don't care how much of time it takes. we continue to educate, sensitize community members to get knowledge about the different venomous species in our environment from the harmful to the harmless ones. This is in support to reducing the rate of sting and bite, and the panic related to them. unfortunately, we are always confronted to many challenges:
- in some areas, people request for refreshments before they come to the sensitization session. Those who value their safety come to attend.
- we struggle to reach far areas as we don't have any resources for our transportation,
- many recommendations from participants, but we can't handle any for now as a grassroots.
Here is a group of youth we spoke to in Kakuma 2. Thankfully, they got to understand the value of the session. Community leaders, kindly help us to mobilize your members. We can live with these venomous species without harm if we learn how to do that. If not, let's not blame God, the nature or the hospital for the death of anyone who got stung/bitten.

We are very happy to pay a visit to the boy after his release from Hospital. This 11 years old boy was bitten few days ago by a Carpet Viper while he coming from their neighbor's house. He was bear foot and he stepped on the most aggressive snake which bit him. He is doing well, but the side of the bite is very hard, I don't know why? (Experts). We visit anyone who experienced sting, bite or death related. We advice and provide tips for safety, while we recommend everyone to get their relatives to hospital first. Thankfully, we are being heard.

With satisfactory feeling, we complete our sensitization campaign around secondary schools. Yes, we went to say let's protect ourselves by keeping safe environment, and let's protect species to keep the ecosystem balanced too. We have impacted more than 10,000 students and school staffs. The feedback is that our message is relevant and much needed. We struggled with transport to reach to far places, and we couldn't provide catalogs to schools in support of their learning. Suggestions are:
- provide schools with catalogs,
- posters to facilitate easy learning among students,
- add our talk to the environmental clubs that already exist in schools to deepen their knowledge
- keep a regular schedule of maybe trice a year to sensitize again,
- organize pesticide spray into schools' compounds and dormitories to minimize the presence the unwanted visitors.

From February 2, we launched a second phase of the sensitization campaign targeting 9 secondary schools within Kakuma and Kalobeyi. Talking to youths about environment and conservation theory is the only way to create a new culture for safety and preservation of the ecosystem with harmonious coexistence with the Venomous animals. Killing them even when they are in their natural environment is just a harm to the nature, lack of compassion towards animals and environment. We are glad as in some schools students are requesting us to form clubs for conservation talks. Today, we attended to the 5th school out of the 9 in the list.

Ahead of our outreach in the second area of the camp, Kakuma 2, we are happy to have met with the community leaders today so they help us in mobilizing their community members to attend the sessions. As said many times, we believe that every conservation literature is grounded in education. We educate to reduce frequencies of stings/bites and also protect the ecosystem. The launching of the outreach in kakuma 2 is scheduled to beginning of next month concomitantly with the awareness to secondary schools.

From November 13 to Dec.,15 2023 we committed ourselves as victims, affected people to educate fellow refugees in the camp to stay safe and act in a manner that could help us reduce the high rate of scorpion stings and snakebites. We are happy to have covered the entire Kakuma with its 3 zones and 26 blocks. We have trained 607 people. As our work isn't to extinguish the venomous animals neither encourage picking them up, we ensured everyone knows how to create and keep safe environment with a conservative mindset. The catalogs of scorpions and dangerous snakes of Kakuma were drawing even bypassers to our sessions. Yet, at the end of every session we had to spend extra 30 minutes to let people picture/ see those catalogs closer. Special thanks to the team of volunteers, to experts who shape and encourage this initiative. On behalf of the team I wish you great festivities and happy new year! .

On day 3 of the community outreach program, we still tell the community that" safety is not an idea. It's not a destination either. It's a work of everyday and every instant which is empowered by the knowledge of the environment. Interestingly questions and comments are just very inspiring for the growth of the program. In the meantime, join us in order to protect people and promote conservation theory of the ecosystem.

We're not for the killing of all the venomous animals around the community in order for us to stay in a safe environment. We're not happy with the high rate of stings and bites around us. But we can educate to prevent, minimize frequencies of stings and bites. We also want people to get to a new mindset, a new culture through our education program. We have successfully launched the phase 1 of the outreach program to educate people to create safe environment and develop an understanding of the conservation- ecosystem theory. Proud of the mobilization done by the community leaders. Thanks to the team and the interpreters in the field.

Ahead of our education program in the community, we invited zonal community leaders to a meeting in which we have all discussed and agreed about the successful strategy that could be used to educate as many people as possible. They were very grateful and amazed by the uniqueness of the message of safety from venomous animals. They came to understand that the killing of species won't help in any way, unless we admit sharing this environment with venomous animals and take our own safety measures to protect ourselves and leave the species unharmed too.

A sad reality in our community this weekend. A 5 year old girl got stung by a Parabuthus maximus on Friday at around 8 pm. She passed away 45 minutes minutes later. We are still to get in touch with the family to understand the circumstances which led to such loss. The family lives at a distance of 300 meters from the main hospital. Our first attempt to meet with the family was unsuccessful. We will try another time to see if we could talk to them in the nearest future.

Admitted since Friday early morning, the 18 year old and 7 months pregnant young lady who got stung by a male Parabuthus maximus is discharged from hospital. But her leg is still swellen. She's unable to drink or shower in morning and evening since the sting took place. When she does it, she feels the pain on the sting site then all over her right leg. Only midmorning and early afternoon hours remain for her to drink and shower. It's a new symptom that I just noticed. Experts, how do explain it?
Ps: On the picture is a female of the species.

22/06/2023

At around 12:45 am my neighbour was woken up by the desperate cry for help from their daughter. Aged 18 , the 7 months pregnant young lady was just stung by this male Parabuthus maximus (or hamar) on the toe of her right leg. The leg is swelling and sweeting. The contact with the air makes her cry a lot. So they have tied up a piece of cloth to keep the leg warmer.
Kindly check your bed, bedsheets, room and other belongings susceptible to attract and hide scorpion before going to bed so that you prevent the worst to happen to you and your family. I advised them to take her to hospital for a proper medication.
