On Sunday, December 15, I visited an Afghan citizen who was stung by a young Parabuthus maximus. The incident happened late at night around 12:40 am. He was stung on his big toe. Good enough he didn't experience any swelling but a lot of pain that led him from one hospital to the second where he received a proper care. The incident happened last week and now he's able to share what he experienced in those trouble moments.

We are grateful, proud, inspired through the insightful training on snake identification and relocation at Watamu Snake farm. This institution is outstanding in the country. It offers diversity of species from accross East Africa species to some accross Africa. With their experts and dedicated team, we had the privilege to feel at home, empowered and ready to carry on the work to relocate some snakes when found in offices, homes, schools and public places.

This is one of common Kenya dangerous snakes ( Carpet Viper). This species is responsible of many bite incidents due to its agitated and aggressive behavior. Very active at night. Depending on the kind of preys that constitute its food, this species' venom could have either cytotoxic or neurotoxic effects. This one from Northern Kenya has developed neurotoxic effect. One advice, never waste time with herbal treatment. rush to hospital instead.

Kenya most dangerous Scorpion- Parabuthus Hamar/maximus.
Do not ever handle. When stung, do not waste time with herbal treatment, rush to the nearest hospital. Its venom is neurotoxic.
It is brought to our center by a 7 years old boy who prevented his mother from crushing the species. # community

When you are involved in a tree planting project, you're involved in environment restoration. This means that once those trees grow, they will provide better surrounding for the biodiversity. You do not create a nice environment and discriminate species you want to see. You won't welcome butterflies and crash lizards, or welcome birds and crash snakes and scorpions. Let's just have a conservationist mindset and develop safe environment and nothing will make us hate some species like snake, scorpion, centipede or spiders. Instead, we will learn ways for us to share the same environment with safety.
Remember we get anti-venom from snake venom, and scorpion venom is used in treatment for cancer and tumor. There is nothing senseless. These were the closing remarks to environmental club members before the closing of schools.

It's because some people choose not to call us. The truth is that we're helping our community when dealing with incidents related to venomous species ( sting or bite). This 4 year old girl was stung by a Parabuthus pallidus. Good enough the parents attended our awareness session. They are aware of the danger of wasting time with such species. Good enough they rushed the child to hospital. She is doing well now.
