Part 2
“The Call and The Collar”
Around 3:30 pm my phone rang, and I saw it was Val. I immediately knew something was very wrong from her voice. Zeke was not in the car, and she said he had to be at the gas station 30 miles back up the road. I could feel her raw emotion through the phone, as well as the kids, who were in the background. She calmed down (sort of) and said she was going back. I told her I would check my phone and call the gas station, surely if he was there someone would have kept him safe.
I saw I had missed a call about 30 minutes before, from an Indianapolis number. I don’t recall my phone ringing, nor would I have answered it if I didn’t recognize the number. I called the number back and the gentleman on the other side said his name was Kevin. He had been at the gas station with Zeke but had left and was headed back home. He said two women had Zeke and they took him in their car. On surveillance (see below), you can clearly see when the call is made, as the time stamp perfectly matches the time I missed the call. This would be the only time someone would attempt to reach me with respect to Zeke. This phone call was vital as it let me know Zeke had his collar on with identifying information when he was taken.
Still in shock from what was going on, I hung up and called the Flying J figuring they will have more information.
The Flying J was not helpful on Sunday. They refused to speak with me, at one point just telling me the dog was not there and not to bother them anymore. It was impossible to get any information from them. I need to preface this with something important…. the general manager of the Flying J, Jerry, would later become a key figure and extremely helpful in helping me get Zeke back. If it weren’t for him this may have ended very differently. Unfortunately I wouldn’t reach him until the following day, though in the end I’m not sure it would have mattered. More on him lat
Zeke Escapes

Part 1
“The Escape”
A few things before we get started. I will be changing the names of some of the individuals involved in our adventure. I am not here to speak negatively about the way things were handled but I do want to state the facts as I saw them, and let people come to their own conclusions. I have decided to delete posts with obvious identifying factors of the women who took Zeke except for those shown by WANE 15 news. I have no intentions of making identities of the women known since it is irrelevant at this point.
I know the week of October 3rd has a had a profound impact on me, though I am not entirely sure how yet. I am telling this story as a way for me to process what happened, and to be honest, it makes me feel good to know how our family stuck together to achieve a common goal. If the outcome were different, I am not sure how I would feel, but who doesn’t love a story with a happy ending? It’s a story I feel deserves to be told.
I want this to be interactive. Telling a story through this medium is a novel idea, and I think it has potential. I encourage comments, discussions, and debate about what occurred. I will do my best to respond directly to those questions. It was a week with little sleep, extreme stress, and uneasiness so I will do my best to accurately recall the events as they occurred.
Without further ado, let’s get started and BRING ZEKE HOME!
It happened in seconds. I was at home after having spent the weekend with my Dad and three brothers, one who had flown in from Atlanta. My wife was with our four kids all weekend, having spent it at our beloved Yogi Bear campground in Indiana. On the way home, she stopped in New Haven at the Pilot Flying J Travel Center to get gas. In only a matter of seconds, Zeke was able to sneak out of the car and lead our family into the most unlikely of adventures.
Looking at the video is incredible, almost like it was written for a movie. The speed at whic
Reuniting with the kids 😭 I love when Eli says this is the one time zeke can get on the couch with muddy paws 🐾 😆 ♥️
