A reminder about puppy activities and bone growth…

When you finally welcome your young puppies home, please keep this image in mind.

You’ll notice that even at 55 days their bones aren’t even touching or fully calcified yet!

They walk so beautifully with those cute furry, flexible legs and have awkward, adorable movements because their joints are made up entirely of cartilage, muscles, tendons and ligaments covered in skin.

Nothing is solid or has any real permanence yet.

When you overrun them, let them jump higher than their own leg length, or don't limit their exercise during this critical time, you're not giving them a chance to grow properly.

Every great, bouncy, exciting jump or over-exertion causes ripples between the bones.

In reasonable quantities, it's not a problem. It’s normal wear and tear that will easily facilitate normal growth.

But when you let your young puppy jump off the sofa or bed, take him for long jogs… you risk damaging those joints and bones in training.

When you let the puppy move on slippery tiles without trimming the hair that grows between their foot pads, you could be causing damage the joints.

You only get to make them grow once. A well built body is something that comes from excellent upbringing and good genetics. BOTH, not just one.

Once they’re an adult, you'll have the rest of their life to spend playing and engaging in high-impact exercises. So keep her quiet while she's still little and give her the gift that can only be given once.

Happy Easter 🐣 tzu family and friends. Sage went to his first show last weekend and did an awesome job and even though we didn't have any shih tzu competition he still did a great job in the toy group even though we didn't place. We did get 4th place in the owner handler toy group
