Tips for applying for a VTS in Clinical Practice:

Review the website and the FAQs section.

Read and understand the CURRENT application. There may be small changes from year to year.

Join our AVTCP applicants Facebook group.

Ask for a mentor.

Ensure that you meet the minimum requirements for application and that you have the ability to obtain the proper cases and skills.

Have someone proofread your application. Spelling, grammar, and proper terminology use is a must.

We do not know you, therefore you must be able to show your critical thinking skills, understanding of disease, pharmacology, case management, etc. via the reports and logs.

We are looking for the who, what, when, where, and why and not just how to perform a task.

We understand that medicine is not perfect, but we need to see your thought process in your cases. If you couldn't place a catheter, explain why. If a client couldn't afford all suggested diagnostics, discuss this and let us know that you understand why those diagnostics ideally should be performed. Your cases need to be high quality and of an advanced nature, but they are not going to always be textbook and we totally understand.

This is a great listen from Amy at Veterinary Team Training. Technicians want to be respected and utilized to their fullest abilities. Job satisfaction is greatly increased when we are utilized properly. When job satisfaction is high, turnover is much lower, and overall patient care improves. Given the opportunity, technicians and doctors can work together as a well oiled machine to get the job done.

Veterinary Team Training is about creating healthier and happier veterinary teams by finding unicorns. Focused on management and leadership we aim to develop the veterinary team. This is the landing page for our podcast.
