It is with great sadness that I share this news💔 I have been putting off making this announcement for some time, as it breaks my heart and tbh, it’s hard for me to personally accept..

I am sure many of you have noticed this past year that we stopped taking in any new dogs and we were down to a few seniors with chronic medical issues we were trying to get placed into their FurEver homes. In 2021, my life drastically changed and I have been operating solo. My health also then took a turn for the worse 😔Just managing the few dogs we had still was more than I could do on my own while trying to also work full time and manage my health and not getting in nearly enough donations to pay for the dogs’ medical needs.

In September 2022, I had to make the decision to also quit my job managing the veterinary practice and work from home due to health issues😔I just had surgery in January, and while I don’t want to get into any details with my health, I just know I need to pull back from rescue. I have decided it’s time to close FurEver Young 😓

At Christmas we were able to place our final senior dog Bozley with a wonderful family and that helped bring some much needed joy 🥹 However, we still have a hefty vet balance due to all of the ongoing medical issues the last few dogs had.

I am asking for any help in donating directly to paying off the vet balance at Edgewood for our senior dogs that were helped and adopted 🙏🏼I know it isn’t as exciting at seeing a dog come in and donating to that dog right then…but these bills were from helping many seniors with dental work, spay/neuters, diagnostics, surgeries, medication, prescription food, everything they needed to become healthy and adoptable again❤️

These two ADORABLE senior beagle sisters are in need of a new FurEver home🫶🏼They are currently being fostered and adopted out by a friend of the former owner.

Daisy and Rosie are 7 yr old spayed female beagle sisters. Owner passed away right before the holidays - we are looking to place in loving permanent home. They love walks and snuggling on the couch. Not super high energy dogs. They dont have very much "other dog " experience and would do best as the only dogs in the house. We are hoping to keep them together ❤

We hope everyone has been having a happy holiday season!✨
While Christmas may be over already, we’re very happy to announce that Bozley got the #1 gift on his wish list… A FUREVER HOME🥳🥳🥳 After waiting patiently for over a year, Bozley is finally home🧡🎁 He joined his new moms & kitty sister in the last couple weeks and has adjusted beautifully, like he was meant to be there all along🥹 He gets to spend his days hanging out with them and going on adventures together🐾 We couldn’t be happier for him & his new family🙏🏻
Thank you to his amazing fosters who took great care of him the past year & We appreciate you so much! Rescue truly takes a village and Boz definitely has some amazing people on his side🐶
We’re ecstatic that he got to spend Christmas in his new home this year🎄and look forward to future updates from his new fam🐾

We just had to share this!
Zero (now named Septimus), had his DNA test done by his humans! 🧬
And guess what?! Our terrier isn’t even a terrier 😆😂🤯 We just love seeing these DNA test results! Genetics are a crazy thing.

We can make a guess at what a dog’s breed LOOKS like, but it’s just that, a guess. Unless you know the parents, that’s the mystery with rescue animals…one we always find pretty cool 🥰 And another reason why breed bans and BSL are BULL$hit‼️ DNA tests have proven over and over again that we should not hold a dog’s life value based on what they look like. They may not even be that breed, they just share similar physical traits.

If you are interested in knowing your dog’s genetic makeup, you can get a DNA test through or 🧬 Embark also shares what health issues they are genetically predisposed to and their new test will actually tell you the dog’s calendar age!🤯 These things are so fascinating!

We have some amazing news to share… 🥁
Stevie has been officially adopted by his amazing foster family🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

Stevie came to us originally in 2014 from another shelter that couldn’t adopt him out due to behavioral issues. He quickly became sanctuaried at Luvable for the same reasons. But Lee Ann, who was a long time volunteer at Luvable, had her heartstrings pulled by this sassy little terrier and she always made an effort to take him for walks, even though he did bite her from time to time🫣🫢Lee Ann has one of the biggest hearts we have ever seen and she dedicates so much of her time and money to helping animals however she can.
Fast forward to 2020, when I left Luvable and started FurEver Young and we brought Stevie with us. Lee Ann stepped up and offered to foster Stevie so he could know what being in a home environment was like. It came with MANY challenges, but Lee Ann and her incredibly patient husband Brad, continued to work through the challenges of having Stevie in their home because they knew no one else would be able to give him that❤️

Stevie has been in foster with them now for over two years and they decided to make it official and asked to make Stevie a permanent part of their family and we could not have been more excited! 😆🥰

After waiting for 8 years in the rescue and shelter system, Stevie finally has his very own family thanks to the Thompsons❣️ We can’t express how grateful we are to these angels for opening up their hearts and homes to this salty little man who has blossomed into such a sweet little gentleman because of their patience and love💖 The world needs more humans like them! Congratulations Stevie! 🎉You hit the jackpot buddy!!!

Bozley is ready to evacuate when necessary 😆 We have a very dangerous fire close by 🔥and the threat of evacuating is very real right now. Senior animals are extra sensitive to the toxic smoke and may need extra care. Check on all of your animals regularly and limit their time and exposure outside in the smoke. Also, make sure you have a plan in place if evacuation is needed with their food, meds and necessities.

Bozley had so much fun on his staycation with Laurie and their pack while his foster fam was out of town! We all can’t believe this boy has been here for a full year and hasn’t found his FurEver home. He is absolutely perfect!

Here is what Laurie had to say about Boz after spending two weeks together:
“Hi friends! I am making a Bozley post because this guy is so ready for his forever home! Bozley has been in foster care for over a year!! I can’t think of one negative about Boz…yes, he’s a senior but in his case, age is truly only a number. He loves going on walks, swimming, car rides, gets along with other dogs, loves to play, waits at the door before going out for a walk, is just as happy to have a lazy day, sleeps all night, potty trained, a smile that never stops and the cutest, softest freckled pink nose. Zero has settled in so well at his new foster home🖤🐾 Guess with who?!?!?!
The awesome family that adopted our sweet Obie last December!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Zero loves hanging with his foster siblings Obie and Juniper, going for walks and getting all the loves from his foster pawrents 🥰

Zero has spent quite some time with us and his kidney levels have worsened over time as expected. So getting him to eat the right food with a new supplement has been really important. Thankfully Leslie and Tom are experienced with seniors and this isn’t their first rodeo 🤠 They have been getting Zero to eat well and take his new supplement to help his kidneys function better.

Even though we only have a few dogs right now, their medical needs have been incredibly expensive. Our vet bill is currently over $6,000. Bozley had a great with his former foster family while his current foster fam was on their vacation! He had a blast with his old bff Savannah and we were so thankful he was able to stay somewhere familiar with a family he loves 💙🐾 Thank you Lydia and Connor for watching Boz last week❣️

Summertime is here ☀️
With the heat, it is vital to save pets’ lives by knowing some basic summer safety info!
Here are some tips from the American Humane Society 🐾

1.) Never leave your pets in a parked car 🚗 Not even for a minute. says not even with the car running and AC on! On an 85 degree day, a car with windows open will reach 102 degrees in just 10 mins🥵

2.) Limit exercise on a warm day. When dogs must exercise, do so during early morning or evening hours when it is cooler temps.

3.) Keep dogs’ paws off of asphalt by only walking them on grassy areas, or wearing boots that protect their paws. Again, best practice is to walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening. You can use your palm to feel how hot the asphalt or gravel is. If it’s too hot for your hand, then it is too hot for their paws! 🐾

4.) provide your pets with plenty of shade and fresh cool water 💦 Do not give them ice as it can dehydrate them rather than hydrate! 🧊

5.) For per parents with short nosed breeds, understand that these breeds get overheated WAY faster than other animals. Take every precaution to check them regularly for signs of heat stroke and follow all of the aforementioned tips carefully!

6.) Watch for signs of heatstroke 🥵Pets respond differently to heat than humans do. For instance, dogs sweat primarily through their feet. Fans also do not cool off pets like they do humans. Signs of heatstroke are heavy panting, rapid heart rate, glazed eyes, difficulty breathing, excessive thirst, lethargy, fever, dizziness, profuse salivation, vomiting, deep red or purple tongue, seizures and/or unconsciousness. Short nosed breeds, very young or very old, overweight animals or animals with heart disease, respiratory issues or animals not conditioned to exercise are at the most risk of heat stroke.

Summertime can be fun but also creates heat related injuries and death in animals every year. Please be aware and sensitive to your pets individual needs and keep them cool and safe this summer! 🌞

Our sweet old guy Bozley had not been feeling well lately and lost a lot of weight 🙁 We went through a lot of diagnostics and medications and finally got to the root of things so he is finally starting to feel like his old self again 🧡🧡🧡🧡

Zero broke the record number of extractions at our vet with a new high of THIRTY-FOUR extracted teeth!!! 🦷 It was a grueling 3 hour dental surgery and oh man is this boy going to be feeling sooo much better🖤 So thankful for the amazing staff at @edgewoodanimalclinic for the incredible care they give to every single patient. Our little man had his exam today at @edgewoodanimalclinic to get cleared for her neuter and dental Monday ✂️🦷 Our vet thinks Pocket is younger than we were told and likely closer to 9 years old and he is in really great shape! He has perfect knees and no heart murmur..therefore he cannot possibly be a chihuahua 😆 He got his preops done today and if everything comes back normal we can proceed with his surgery Monday morning.
