Orange - has been a sweetheart since birth. She has a soft gentle demeanor. She would much rather sit beside you and be pet rather than chase her brothers. But don’t let that fool you, she can definitely keep up with her brothers. She is very much like her Momma and uses grunts to talk. She melts into your arms any chance she gets.

With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved Olive. She passed away in our arms at home in a peaceful ceremony. Life is too small to contain a dog with a heart so big. Although this pack misses you something fierce, you have forever changed us. We see the world through your open eyes and untamed heart. You saw the world with fresh lenses, lived with everything you had, and you loved with your whole soul. You may be gone for a time, but we look forward to the day that we will meet you again at God's Gates, just at the edge of the rainbow.

In October, we tried to beat the Osteosarcoma with an ulnar ostectomy and the following biopsies showed we had caught it early. With chemo, we thought be beat it, at least by a few years. When it returned, we vowed we wouldn't put you through another recovery to buy us a few more months that would have limited your dreams in any way.

We'll be okay living with the sorrow of letting you go when there may have been another good day, week, or maybe even a month, but we promised we wouldn't keep you here for our sake alone. We wouldn't let cancer take away anything you loved in this world. Osteosarcoma didn't win.

This isn't goodbye. We love you, Olive! Thank you for being such a Good Girl.

Pavlov taught us that we can take a stimulus and it's hardwired response, introduce a neutral stimulus and associate that same response to that new stimulus.

Why is this such valuable information? We can then take that neutral stimulus and hardwired response and associate it with yet another stimulus.

We can take a negative hardwired response or behavior and turn it into a positive one, and vice versa.

Genes that pass from parent to pup can be turned on or off with conditioning, counterconditioning and desensitization.
A particular trait becomes highly desirable with healthy, age appropriate and reinforced environmental input.

Puppies up to 12 weeks have chemicals that remove mistakes and retain positive feedback. This period is especially influenced by operant training, socialization and conditioning. Healthy stress responses later in life are associated with dessensitization beginning at birth, promoting healthy vascular, endocrine and neurological systems.

There is no such thing as a negative or positive trait. Traits simply trigger a response, dependent on default instincts or conditioned responses that can benefit the health and wellbeing of a dog for the rest of their lives.

Going to the drive through, getting ready to place our order!

One key part of socialization is keeping a calm and quiet space to introduce novel or unusual things. For instance, feeling the ground move beneath a dog's feet means one thing: earthquake! Here we can see how these adorable puppies recover quickly from something that would be otherwise frightening. After they recover, they are thinking about what they want to order at the window 😅

This is a video of our car ride. I'm pretty sure they are going to love roadtrips!
