What a transformation! Thank you the always awesome Monica from who gave our little foster gal Tina Turner a much needed make over. Tina was an unclaimed stray who was quite the mess! Her dewclaws were completely circled and growing in to her skin 😔. She's now all fresh and clean and will be working on getting ready for adoption! Stay tuned for her debut, she's not quite ready yet!

Let’s meet Izzy!

Hi! My name is Izzy. I am a pretty awesome just over 1 year old Female Merle Border Collie mix. I know you will be smitten with my good looks but don’t be fooled, I am much more than that! I am very smart and would excel in dog sports or agility! I love to be active and I learn quickly. I am also super sweet, cuddly and get along fantastically with other dogs, people and kids (not toddlers though, just don’t want to knock anyone down!) I haven’t met any cats so it would be best to be in a no cat home. I love going for car rides, I am a great passenger. Walks, hikes, runs, that’s my jam, I’m always down for a good time! I have great recall. I am a medium sized pup and can still fit in your lap perfectly. I am house broken, crate trained, have manners and working on perfecting my leash manner. I am so excited to meet my forever family!

Hello Claire!
Claire is a beautiful and enthusiastic high energy redhead who is always looking for adventure. She's very friendly with other dogs and with people, and loves to be where the action is! She's a Frisbee and ball machine, retrieving every time and dropping it at your feet in anticipation for the next toss!
Claire is FAST...like REALLY FAST, and extremely intelligent! She loves to please. She would excel at any sport, especially flyball, frisbee and agility. She would be amazing at Rally-O. Claire has excellent recall off-leash.
She is good in the house with a dog savvy cat, quite focused on her though. We would not trust her with a cat that will run or outside cats.
This beautiful girl is crate trained and house trained. She would love a playmate to wrestle with! She would be fine with kids, but might knock a toddler over with her enthusiasm!

I would like to take a moment to say THANK YOU to everyone who helped HHBCR over the last year, in big ways and small, to save many lives and make many happy homes!
I want to especially say a HUGE thank you to Nikki S, without whom HHBCR would not exist.
I call her "The Queen of Hearts" because her talent for making love matches is truly amazing! I wonder how many incredible matches she has made over the last 15 years? Too many to count!

Meet Luke!

Luke is a wonderful young dog almost 3 years old, with a lot of energy. He's crate trained and house trained, good with cats and other dogs. Luke knows basic commands, and he's a dream on leash and off.
He is a bit of a velcro dog who loves and craves to be near his human. He needs a high fence, as if you leave him in the yard, he will jump the fence to find you!
In the car, he would love to be your co-pilot.
Older kids preferred for Luke. He loves chasing the big ball. He deserves a great forever home. He needs someone who is home a lot. Luke would make an excellent therapy dog!

Some jolly news for the holiday season! Tikvah is coming along WONDERFULLY.

Her wound is no longer infected and is finally closing up nicely! She has traded the e-cone for a silly Santa hat - a rite of passage for many dogs at Christmas. She wore it for her foster family photo with grace and good humor, which pretty much sums up her general take on life.

She is gentle, sweet and loving. She expresses herself through howls and groans whenever she feels like she has something important to say. She has FINALLY been able to go for walks, and she is running on 3 legs like a pro. She played tug-of-war for the first time last night and loves her toys and doggy puzzles. And she is starting to build up an appetite, just in time to put on her holiday pounds!
Thanks to all who have followed this girl since Day 1. While she still has some more healing to go, she is doing amazingly well and is ready to get spoiled this Christmas.

Update Tikvah
We would like to let everyone know how things are progressing with Tikvah.
Unfortunately, the infection that set in shortly after she arrived progressed. Her foster mom was doing everything she could as directed but unfortunately, the severity of the surgery and her weakened state at the time, took a toll. We want to stress how amazing her foster mom was at doing everything necessary. We are incredibly thankful for her.
Tikvah is spending another few days and nights in hospital at Pembina Vet where she will receive the best possible care.
The staff absolutely adores her, and we are extremely grateful for the care she is receiving.

My new family loves me forever and I am such a happy guy!

Hi, I’m Kevin! I’m an 6 year old chihuahua. I arrived here at my Foster home 3 weeks ago and quickly bonded with my foster Mum. The dad or oldest kid is the next best thing if Mum isn’t home. I like to sleep in your bed and especially under the covers. I hope it’s ok if I snore!

I arrived house trained and last week I started to lead Mum to the back door and cry when I was ready to go out so she could stop guessing! I do well on a leash and enjoy short walks but I’m also happy being lazy around the house. When I go outside I often do my business and come right back in, especially on the colder days. You might need to get me a sweater for winter!

I don’t like to be approached from behind so please greet me face to face. The best way to earn my trust is to lie on the ground at my level! I’m quiet for the most part but I will bark and growl to protect Mum when people come over to the house! The kids here are ok but I get really nervous if they’re loud or chasing each other around the house. It’s taken me a few weeks to get used to the 3 year old but I did let him pet me this weekend so I’m coming around to the little one too. I would do best in a house with older kids or no kids.

If Mum is cooking I like to guard the kitchen, I want to be the first to swipe any scraps that might fall. Sometimes I chase balls and roll them around with my teeny paws like a cat. I get really excited to see you every time you come home from being away! You’ll know I’m excited by my tail wagging like crazy and my dancing feet! Mum even gets kisses from me! Give me a chance, I promise I’ll be excited to see you come home furever!
