So my old girls Sin and Fashion get to live and snuggle with my "daughter" Kyliee Kikuyama and her boyfriend Will. Kyliee decided to take Sin to her clubs fun match (age and status doesn't matter). Sin was my 1st Bred by Champion.

Look at her here at 12 years old!! She still loves it and she won the Terrier Group!! Proud Dad in soo many ways.

I'll just lay down up here by myself.

The Foundation of My Life
She made me fall in love with this silly breed. She made a name for me in the breed. Even if you didn't realize that about me. She gave me my first Best of Breed win (from the classes). She gave me my first Group Placement (a 2 under Jon Cole). She gave me my first Group 1 (under Col. Purkhiser). She gave me a reason to want to show dogs. She gave me a start that created a purpose and passion for the Sport of Purebred Dogs. It has been a really sad day.

Below is Naughty this morning and 13.5 years ago. In a separate post I intend to bombard you with memories of my little Naughtylicious

Everything happens for a reason.

I had a pretty mediocre first show weekend of 2024. Majors broken in multiple breeds when dogs were on premises. I could go on but not my point. All weekend I thought why did I come here?

After I finished I drove to KY yesterday. I had placed Empress with a friend at the request of her co owner. He already has a girl from me and I'd trust him w anything. But she's a Mini and dug out 2 weeks ago. He saw her every day other than yesterday. Put flyers and live traps. Talked to all his neighbors. All the things. I had no idea how long I would be there but I show Thursday (job) and have to get home.

I got there at 7 p.m. and had said I would ex my truck in his front yard in hopes the sounds would inspire her return. I yelled her name and went inside to use the restroom. Then he told me where he usually sees her and that she runs when he says her name. Little s**t

We walked out front and he says "look here" and she was at my truck door. I said her name and she spun and charged over to me. Empress ran straight up my body. Talking, peeing and licking all the way to my face. I had been there 5 minutes. He said "put her in your truck, she loves you and clearly isn't happy here." I did. This pic was this a.m. while exing dogs.

The bond I have with my dogs is extra strong. That's why I went to the show...so I could be close enough to bring my girl home.

Everything happens for a reason

I typed all this below while soaking in the tub. Favorite pastime that started when I worked Thoroughbred yearling sales in KY and was always beat up at the end of the day. While I relaxed eating an ice cream bar (cause I can) a chunk of it fell off into the water, so that I had to chase it (not easy) or live with it. So I soaked WITH ice cream.

Hmmm, 2023 is ending. Can't say I'm sorry about that but I also will remember it fondly. I made it through the year without anyone permanently living at my place. The last 2 (a couple) lied, stole, killed, etc. (Recently I heard they both died of drug overdoses within weeks of each other). Usually I don't see people for how awful they are until after the fact. Anyway, I've had to travel with most of my dogs (client, personal, retired, pets) and even a cat because it's just better that way. That takes a toll on a person physically and mentally. A few people stepped up and boarded dogs for me to give me a break. For that I am FOREVER thankful.

I dealt with the ridiculous rumors that come about by dog show people. Always the ones that no one knows or respects. The same types that would rather talk about others to keep people from seeing them for what they really are. I am apparently a puppy mill according to MAS people (I think I've bred 8 litters in 7 years, how horrible of Me). People tell my clients they don't like how I care for my dogs. People that have ONLY had conversations With me in or around the ring. Never at my house or setup. Of course.

There is always something with dog show people. If you know me I just do my job and mind my business. I used to be more social but I've grown to trust only myself and a select few others that are actually genuine. I spend 100% of my time with 1 or all the dogs I choose to care for wherever I may be.

I put a lot on my plate sometimes trying to be both a breeder and a professional handler. Most handlers have a significant other at home or on the road. They have a staff, etc. I have found having my trusted clients raise the millions of puppies I must produce (sarcasm) easier on me. If I didn't love breeding and showing dogs SO much more than anything I've ever done then I wouldn't put so much of my life into it.

I traveled to shows I've never attended this year. My home state of New Mexico was one of e biggest highlights. Showing at McGee Park (Sunray Racetrack and Casino) where I grew up and won my 1st Quarter Horse race (As an owner) was extra special. Even now it chokes me up. That track is where a lot of dreams started. Showing at Woofstock in California was a bucket list adventure that I will never forget.

I kinda keep my personal life quiet anymore because I used to say too much and Felt enormous judgment from those that can't appreciate the openness of my mouth. Over the past year I've created and developed a friendship that keeps me grounded and a little more together than all 75 years of my life (ok 54 but it can feel like 75). in addition and as important I've developed one of the best relationships with someone (different person meddlers) that allows me to enjoy the idea of being serious with someone. It has been years since I would truly entertain that idea. They both know who they are and what they've come to mean to me.

I retired both my boys Legend (semi) and Cole that have brought some of the greatest moments of my handling career. Those 2 friendships will be hard to surpass but it's always fun to reach the last page of a good book, knowing the sequel is waiting for you.

I'm doing things a little different in 2024. Less nationwide travel. Enjoying shows closer to home. I have a new MAS special to campaign and some plans for new adventures.

My last thought is that everyone makes posts complaining about their breeds conformation spiraling downward, about new AKC rules they don't agree with, about judging that basically doesn't benefit their special, about breeding options being limited and about shows being too plentiful, too crooked, too expensive and of course about all the politics that doesn't benefit their star. Here's an idea, how about shut up and do better? Worry about what you can fix and improve from your program (or whatever you are) on up. You'll never make a change in any industry if you aren't EVERYTHING that you want to improve first.

THANK YOU to my clients, co-owners, friends, breeders and trouble makers for an interesting 2023. Thanks to my 2 favorite people for keeping me sane and happy.

Tomorrow is a new day and literally a New Year.
