In an attempt to ensure you have crystal clear water next year you need to plan ahead. The water is a living , balanced ecosystem that looks good when it at it most natural equilibrium. all parts working together. Over addition of nutrients sets the system out of equilibrium and sets of un-pleasant algae, duck w**d, and blanket w**d Try and limit the food you put in over the winter, the fish are cold blooded and less active and so are taking less food. I know on the pellets you buy it often says feed twice a day, but they are trying to sell them. I recommend twice a week only throughout the winter, only increasing to every day when the green returns to the trees, around march or April. Remove leaves blown in regularly before the mush up and sink to the bottom. Cut back and remove any plants that have died or gone brown and fallen in to the water. All these add unwanted nutrients that produce wanted greenery in the water.

So now is time to take action to ensure your pond remains algae free in 2019. If you wait until the long sunny days and hot weather it will be too late, prevention is better than cure. We recommend you buy a 2 pack pond treatment "Revive my Pond". Pack one, put in now, will absorb the excess nutrients in the water over winter. Then replace it with pack 2 in May or June and your pond will remain algae free. last year we had a massive increase in biodiversity with water boatmen, frogs , snails etc all proliferating, because there was no algae.

So how this kit works is, you get two net bags of media, you put one in your pond and it lasts up to six months, removing polluting nutrients and that stops Algae and w**d growing. Cloudy pond water? Green pond water? Duckw**d?, Pondw**d? All these pond problems are caused by excessive nutrients. These come from fish poo, rotting pond vegetation, falling leaves, excessive fish food. There is on the market many chemical remedies, I think they are very hit and miss. on the label it says if it does not work then buy another one and add that ! Our Pond Revival Kit comprises of a nutrient test kit, so you can measure the degree of polluting nutrients you have in the pond before you start. It has 1 kg of Green Science Media, that will adsorb and lock up the nutrients that the algae feeds on. It contains two mesh media bags that are used to suspend the media in the water. It contains a pair of gloves for handling the media and to stop toxic algae coming in to contact with your skin ! The media is suspended in the pond and after two or three days on measuring the nutrients you should find a considerable drop in concentration. The reduced nutrients causes the Algae, duckw**d, and pondw**d to retreat, not multiply and die back. Measuring the nutrients again after one month, you should find a 95% + drop. and the water looking much more healthy.
