Yesterday afternoon we checked Honey & didn’t see any babies.. around 9pm I got a text asking me if we had seen any yet, I knew there wasn’t but I went out to check just to humor the person… to my surprise Honey had pulled some fur (they do that to make a better nest) & there was a tiny baby tucked in a corner of the cage! You can hear the shock in my voice, & see my hands shaking.. you’d think I was the one who just delivered! 😂 She looked a bit distressed but nothing alarming. I still hadn’t seen the placenta so I checked over the baby, collected the loose fur she had left & placed it in the nesting box! I periodically checked on her until about midnight when I came out & saw the placenta on the cage floor. I knew she was done & had no kits left to deliver. I had looked all around the cage with lights & saw nothing else so I went to bed. I came out this morning & to my second surprise… another baby! It must have been born late last night on the cage floor & wobbled out the side, luckily I haven’t cleaned up the cages & floor yet because it landed on some hay & lived!! If you compare the two you can see the difference in the way they formed, the first one was a peanut & will most likely fade away in 2-3 days. Which I will explain more in the future. The second one however looks very good so far & is now tucked into the nest & waiting for momma Honey to feed them! Honey seems to be doing really well & is relaxed, I’m hoping her motherly instinct kicks in soon & she takes really good care of these little ones! 💕 Comment your questions!

An update for those who have asked about baby Maple🍁
I genuinely thought I was going to lose her 10 days ago, I held her & processed the fact that her chances seemed slim.. she wasn’t holding up her head, I found her sprawled out & barely responding even after medication. She was sneezing, congested & had very labored/stuffy breathing.. I did everything I could & slept with her in a laundry basket next to my bed. It has been a very sketchy time, & a lot of extra work but she seems to be about 90% recovered & I now feel confident in saying that I expect her to make a continued & FULL recovery!
This is a happy homestead day, not all stories have such happy endings & I’m grateful that she is here!
