Weedy Wednesday... Prickly lettuce. Looks similar to cultivated lettuce after it's bolted. Long stem, small pale yellow flower. Leaves and stems are bitter, but edible. Root is often used as a coffee substitute. I do not eat tjis plant, but would love to hear if you do. Eat it, or compost it like we do!

This week on the farm... planting 4000+ bulbs!
Weedy Wednesday! Back to mallow, which has one of THEE most difficult tap roots... this one is two and a half feet long... oy! But we got it out, without severing the tap root. We watered the area for a few days to ensure the soil has some give, loosened the area around the root and then put a whole lot of our legs (not back!) into it. Success!

This week on the farm! We are enjoying feeling refreshed after a family trip down to the Great Sand Dunes and now we are preparing for the frost that will likely hit this weekend. We are making sure all of our dahlias are tagged so we know the different varieties and we are crossing our fingers that our #chrysanthemums will make it through the cold.

A few people asked about the attractive fruit fly trap that we use in our kitchen, so here are the details. Made by RSVP international, fill with one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, one teaspoon of liquid soap and the rest water. Place lid on and change every few days. And you certainly don't need a special gadget, I used to just put the above ingredients in a ball jar on our counter. This trap is just more discreet.

Weedy Wednesday! White Flowering Willow Herb. Not too be confused with Hairy Willow Herb. WFWH is native to Colorado, it's flower is a pollinator and it doesn't take over. Leave it if it's no bother or yank it and compost it if you don't want it where it is.
The HWH is invasive, try to pull out it's rhizome if you can, and trash it. Cheers!

Hoe/Hairy nightshade, Trash it! Small green berries that can sometimes be purple, leaf shaped like an arrowhead. Mixed information on this one regarding how poisonous it might be (especially to animals!), so I'm going to err on the side of poisonous. Also tends to spread easily and can carry a virus known to affect potatoes. Just a whole lot of thumbs down for this one unfortunately. Yank early and trash it.
