Throwback Thursday…is that still a thing?

Back when we first started raising discoids for our dragon, Louie, we did “Louie on a shelf” for one Christmas 😂 Nothing like a little snack by a roaring fire…Louie prefers roaches but I’d like to take a bite out of one of those s’more’s!!

Check in! How did everyone fare during Hurricane Milton? We have been through MANY hurricanes, but Milton had us shaking in our boots..

Everyone is safe here. Beyond grateful. Some damage, but mostly a lot of debris that will take time to clear. We also have a ton of flooding on our road and property (about 8 ft deep in some areas..), but thankfully it has not reached our home so far! So many in our area experienced flash floods and had to be rescued by boat… this has never happened in Plant City!! We are still without power, service is spotty. They estimate to have it restored by 10/17/24 🤞 but possibly sooner. Incredibly grateful for all the linemen working so hard to accomplish this..it looks like a war zone out there!

We have a generator to run some things. Not to worry, the roaches are comfortable! 🙏 Monday 10/14/24 is a USPS holiday, Columbus Day, so we are hoping shipping will be able to resume on Tuesday 10/15. Tentative at this time.

I’m trying to get back to all of your messages, but service has been spotty and we have been working on cleaning up. Some cleanup will still take a month or more to get to until the water recedes.

We pray that you, your family, friends, loved ones and all of your animals made it through Hurricane Milton…and hopefully minimal damages to address! 🙏

Hey there! I know we are not the best at updating our page, but we are very active on here behind the scenes in our messages!

Hurricane Milton🌀 is going to be a doozy, to put it nicely.. I’m sure like most of our friends, followers, & customers, everyone who is in FL is on edge right now! At this time, looks like we are going to be right smack in the middle of the path since we are right outside of the Tampa Bay Area, specifically Plant City. We are going to hunker down in place. Unfortunately we couldn’t find anywhere that would let us bring our discoids along! 😉🤣 Besides our discoids, we also have lots of donkeys, ducks & geese to care for…along with dogs, cats, & our dragon Louie! We are as prepared as we can be at this time.

We decided to ship our packages out today. Their first stop is the distribution center in Tampa, so by late tonight or early tomorrow hopefully they will be long gone from the area and arrive soon for your scaly babies ❤️ If they do get held up in transit longer than anticipated, they should still be ok because we made sure to pack plenty of roadtrip snacks for their journey 😊 At this time we are going to play it by ear for shipping on Thursday or Friday.

Our prayers are with you. If you evacuated, we hope you have made it to your destination safely or will be arriving soon! If you’re staying put, we pray you, your loved ones & pets stay safe!!

We had the pleasure to meet Omar & Lulu 🐾 today and help them acquire some discoids for his new dragon!

Thanks for braving the crowd and meeting us at the Green Thumb Festival today in St. Pete! We love getting to meet other reptile owners, it’s a bonus when we get to meet their animals. Scales or fur, we love them all! ❤️

This is a local rescue to us that does AMAZING work to find purrfect homes for so many fur babies! 🐾 We have fostered a few times and try to help when we can. Some of our fur kiddos have come from Sunshine Big Dog Rescue! ❤️ If you’re in need of some new art, looking for a gift for a friend/family member… please consider purchasing a pet portrait!

Side note…if you’re interested in adopting a dog/cat, I highly recommend reaching out to them! She truly pours so much of herself into making sure animals are properly placed! She’s always looking for families to foster as well if you prefer to not have a lifetime commitment! Fostering is so much fun and rewarding!!

We have been closely monitoring the weather for shipping this week. As many of you know, we are in Plant City, around Central Florida area. At this moment, tomorrow (Tuesday) the low for our area is expected to be 39. Discoids are a tropical roach species and do not do well in temperatures below 60.

Since this week has already been a shortened shipping week due to the holiday, and Florida is going to be experiencing more low temperatures this week and weekend, we are making the difficult decision to postpone shipments until next week.

If you’d prefer to go ahead and place your order in advance to go out Monday the 22nd, you can! Currently the weather is showing much warmer temps after this coming weekend so shipping should be fine for next week. Fingers crossed!!

Our number 1 priority is making sure our discoids arrive in the same condition as when they left our care. Their health is important because we know their main purpose is to nourish so many beloved scaly family members!

I expect USPS to experience some delays this week due to the weather. Not with just live animal/insect shipments, but all packages. At some point we have all experienced the frustrations that come with not receiving your package in the timeframe you initially expected. When shipping live animals or insects, it’s even more nerve wracking! From the moment they leave our care the clock is ticking and how they are handled is completely out of our control.

We thank you for your patience this week. We hope you, your family, and all of your furry/scaly family members stay warm this week and weekend ❤️

My sincere apologies for not returning messages as quickly this weekend. We have been caring for one of our donkeys, and his health declined and he went down fast. Most of our time and energy as of lately has been devoted to trying to help him. If you know us, you know we pour our heart and soul into our animals! We had to make the tough decision of letting him go today.. it’s been rough.

We are still packing up any orders that were placed over the weekend to go out today. At this time, we have made the decision to hold off on receiving any more orders until December 26th. We will still be here for any questions you have, but just know the response time may be longer than usual. We need some time to grieve.

We appreciate you guys and thank you for your understanding!! 🙏😭

No matter what you may or may not celebrate this upcoming weekend, we hope you have a Merry Christmas or a Happy Holiday with your friends, family, loved ones and of course your pets ❤️

“Is this an albino roach??”

It’s a common question we receive from our customers!

During a discoid’s lifetime, they will shed their exoskeleton 7 times from their journey as a brand new nymph to becoming an adult! During this morphing process as they shed, they will temporarily become white and squishy for about an hour or so until their new exoskeleton has a chance to dry out. Once it’s dry, the new exoskeleton becomes hard and darkens in color.

Did you know they can cannibalize during this phase? If there is insufficient food, overcrowding, or places to hide/burrow…or unfortunately sometimes it’s just wrong place, wrong time! 😢
