Snoopy finally released her hostages yesterday. I joked weeks ago that there was no way she would make it until the full moon. Snoopy has the last laugh on that one. She gave birth to 2 beautiful babies yesterday morning. Unfortunately one of them didn’t make it. I named her kid Luna and she is doing great. Our kidding season is over with 6 healthy babies and 1 loss. 3 does and 3 bucklings. I would have loved to not have any losses, but I think it was a successful year.

It’s been an exciting almost 24 hours. Yesterday evening, Maybelline had beautiful, healthy twin girls! They are 100% fainting goats so we can’t wait to see them start fainting! We also have to wish our King Lester a very happy sweet 16 birthday! He is the only gelding we have, everyone loves him and he is definitely the leader of the herd.

Of course, it’s the coldest day of the year so far. It’s also happens to be Jacey’s birthday. What better way to celebrate her birthday than with the first baby goat of the year! Snowball is pleased to show you her brand new baby boy. They are both doing great and hopefully she will keep him nice and warm! Now to figure out a name for him……

This is what happens when you live in the middle of the woods, get lots of rain and super gusty winds! Very thankful that it didn’t damage anything and only put a scratch or two on the horse trailer. We still have a mess, but Matt cleaned up enough of it already that we can get in and out the driveway.

I lost the battle on this one! I’m naming them dinner 1 and dinner 2. I’m pretty sure they will get new names though. Yesterday, we added these 2 little girls to the farm. They aren’t super friendly yet, but I’m pretty sure that will quickly change.

The chairman of the board (Lester) of the Dysfunctional Farm has asked us to send out a PSA (people serving animals) to everyone. He and all of the animals here had a special emergency meeting of the Hay Burners 252 group. They all want everyone to have a great New Year’s celebration, but wanted everyone to know to be responsible. After all if something was to happen to you who would feed them in the morning….Really Lester that’s what you are worried about?? Lester and Eeyore have volunteered their services of drinking all of your festival drinks so you will not get intoxicated. Really Lester can’t you just tell them not to drink and drive?? Call a friend?? Gracie wanted to warn everyone that some animals are sensitive to loud noises. So treats and comfort from their humans are always welcomed. It has been a busy day so far here, new straw for the houses and still working on the fence for the goat pen. The animals are anxious to welcome two new animals to the farm (baby pigs) and hope that Maybelline can hold off on delivery of her babies. All in all it has been another interesting year at the Dysfunctional Farm and we hope everyone has a good New Year.

Happy gotcha day to our ornery Lester. 4 years ago today, he was the first horse to join the dysfunctional farm. To celebrate his special day, he had a nice roll in the mud.

Lester has been very busy the last few days. He knows that the Dysfunctional Farm is one of the mandatory DOT stops on Santa’s route. Scarlett used to handle all of the important details so Lester could enjoy the festivities. Knowing that Scarlett is enjoying the holidays in heaven, it is now up to Lester and Eeyore to take care of business. So what did they do???? Well they made sure there was a shipment of hay brought in, fresh water all around, and he even fermented some ‘special treats’ for the reindeer. After all, they are in the south. I tried to remind the boys of how they got on the naughty list when the got Rudolph drunk the last time they were here. Their response was tell gramma to watch out!!!! Come on guys really. Lester has informed us that the pyrs have agreed to distract and detain Santa so the reindeer can play some games. Eeyore and Lester, what kinda games?????? Eeyore brayed and said you are human, you wouldn’t understand just don’t come out to the pasture!!! Come on guys, really? I can only imagine what they have planned for Santa’s team. Hopefully the reindeer can survive after the night that The Dysfunctional Farm animals have planned for them. Merry Christmas to all from the Dysfunctional Farm.

Apparently, it is national day of the horse. These 3 might drive me crazy most of the time and at times cost a small fortune, but I can’t imagine life without them. Love my Lester, Gracie and Dixie! I definitely can’t leave out our foster, Prima. She is super sweet and looking better everyday.

Have you ever wondered why we named our farm “The Dysfunctional Farm”? Here is a perfect example! It’s December and getting colder. We have been saying for weeks that we needed to fix the goats houses and add bedding for the winter. So, what do we do? Of course we wait for a rainy (but warm) Sunday and decide today is the day to get it done. We got soaked, but we have happy and warm goats and ducks. Of course, the goats had to supervise and help us. They were very impatient waiting for us to finish.

We would officially like to welcome Prima to our farm! No, she is not ours and is here temporarily. We are super excited and honored to be asked to foster for Green Bean's Safe Haven. Prima is a thoroughbred in her mid 20’s that came out of a kill pen. She just finished her quarantine and will be with us until she finds a forever home. She will be ready for adoption soon. Stay tuned for more updates about her. Also, please check out and like Green Bean’s Safe Havens page and contact them if you are interested in adopting her.

I just realized how long it has been since we posted and, as always, there’s been a lot going on around here. Losing Scarlett was rough on the humans and the horses. We all still miss her, but Lester, Grace and Dixie (well, mostly Lester and Dixie) have kept us busy! For some reason Lester thought it would be fun to get a puncture wound on his face. He just loves to see his vet! It was pretty nasty, but he is totally healed now. Chunky little Dixie had laminitis. Her blood work shows that she is now insulin resistant and is on a major diet. She is hangry all the time and I’m definitely not her favorite person right now! She is losing lots of weight, her feet have recovered and she rode beautifully yesterday. Our wonderful vet will be here tomorrow to draw some blood and see if her levels are better. Fingers crossed!! The rest of the critters all seem to be doing good. There is also some exciting things happening around here. Our farm has been given a wonderful opportunity and we feel very privileged that we have been asked to help out. We aren’t ready to share the news yet, but Tuesday should be an exciting day around here and we should be ready to announce everything then. Stay tuned!!!

3 years and almost 4 months ago we rescued the sweetest Friesian. We had her much longer than anyone anticipated, but it still wasn’t enough time. Scarlett had her own plan and yesterday morning when I checked her, her leg was completely done. She couldn’t wait any longer and we made the decision to set her free of the pain. Yesterday was lots of scrambling, lots of love, tons of treats, everyone brushing her, playing the chicken dance for her and more tears than I thought possible. Life without her here is going to be very different but the memories that we have will last a lifetime. Run free beautiful girl.

Our vet visit yesterday for Scarlett didn’t go as we had hoped. We have made the decision to humanely euthanize her on Tuesday. We are going to give her a few days of some pain meds and see if she improves, but with all the damage from the DSLD, it appears that her suspensory ligament is just done. She is going to get spoiled with lots of treats and love for the next few days. I just hope she knows how loved she is. We got so much more time with her than we expected, but somehow it still isn’t enough.
