The great molt is upon us!
While the ladies lose their feathers we are turning them into works of art to help off art feed costs.

Feed is now $22/50lb bag. While I do my best to shop sales and use coupons- it’s a drastic difference from $15/bag.

We will be selling feather wreaths and feed bag totes to help off set feed costs for the ladies.

A very happy (belated) birthday to these four ladies!
Sun was their second birthday, we got to celebrate today with a picnic in the backyard.

It’s Fall! 🍁 🎃
Things have slowed down- as is eggspected 😉
Shorter days with less daylight and the colder temps have signaled The Molt to happen. Our half naked nuggets can be seen running around (at least they didn’t wait until it was mid-winter this year!) which means less eggs. I also found out that our solar powered party lights inside the coop is broken. I’ll be shopping around for a good replacement and will install as soon as possible.

Currently we have a waitlist going. Let us know if you would like to be put on the list!!

Do I capture pictures of the flock?
Yes- all the time, but sporadically. We go out to play and visit and often sans phone. So I don’t capture every moment with our feathered babies.

Ethel posed and made sure I got her good side 😉

Ethel and her two sisters, Helen and Louis, were the latest bunch to join the Backyard Buckaroos. All three have been safely integrated into the flock and are enjoying their free ranging life here.

The babies have grown so fast and should start laying soon! Who is ready for more eggs? We are eager to see what color the two Easter eggers will lay- green, blue??

Say hello to our three newest members!!
A family moved down south and needed to rehome their three ladies.

Ethel, Helen and Louis in the background there.

These ladies spent their time in quarantine and adapting to the big flock way of things from the safety of quarantine until they could safely be introduced to the flock.

Happy Fathers Day!

Here is an oldie but goodie from when these littles first met
Bunny was found in our yard one day before Easter (rightfully named Bunny), the neighbors never responded if they wanted him back.
They raise meat birds- we have always believed Bunny knew and escaped, same for Cinnamon.

The flock has already started eating their goodies to help beat the heat. It’s safe to say that the ducks are thoroughly enjoying watermelon 🍉🦆

It’s going to be a hot one today!
On top of the 300gal stock tank for the water fowl, the multiple waterers, box fan, solar fan in the coop for the nesting boxes. We also wet down the bark to help keep it cooler and offer frozen treats or melons. Last night I picked up a few watermelons the ladies have saved up for.
We are so thankful to have a wonderful community and friends who support our flock so that we can be sure to offer them the best. Thank you!!!!

The girls enjoyed a Sunday brunch that included their favorites of strawberries, watermelon and blueberries.

We collect eggs multiple times a day. They are washed, inspected, stored point down and refrigerated.
If you would prefer unwashed, please contact us a few days in advance.

Did you know?? Eggs can last several weeks, unwashed, on your counter thanks to the natural ‘bloom’ that covers the egg.
Eggs you buy at a store are typically a few months old already.
Storing eggs point down will help keep the yolk centered and bacteria farther away from it.

Hi and Welcome to Backyard Buckaroos!

We are located in Napa, Ca with a growing flock of rescued and adopted chickens, ducks and a goose.

Our flock enjoys the spoiled life. They free range all day, get treats daily & all the pets and cuddles they want. Their large coop was designed and built by us, but decorated by them.

We started off by taking in my moms 5 chickens when she moved a few years ago- chicken math happened but in the form of adopting and rescuing. Before you knew it we had 19 hens, 6 chicks, 8 ducks and a goose.

They sell their eggs (cartons are sold on Marketplace and we fill those for free 😉) and buy their feed and treats this way. So if you would like farm fresh, free range eggs let us know!
