Central Texas Dog Trainer is one of Texas’s best dog and puppy training schools; the home to one of the most important steps in enjoying a healthy, trusting and loving relationship with your puppy or dog. We train both pets and owners, helping them live together peacefully so that both can enjoy the best their relationship has to offer. We are also sporting dog enthusiasts. If you have a sporting

dog, we are the best source to get solid obedience training that will not interfere with your gundog training. We teach off leash behavior so that you can live, work and play to the greatest extent with confidence and style. Call 737-242-6492, or visit us at www.centraltexasdogtrainer.com. You can also follow us on YouTube. For those with sporting dogs, that want to be able to hunt with them, at some point in the future, you should know that breaking into the gundog world isn't easy, especially if you come from the city without any experience. We offer coaching to help you break into that world and send you on your way to adventure. Learn how to speak the lingo so that when you show up at a hunting reserve and want to crack open a cold one and shoot the breeze with the other hunters and handlers, you sound like you know what the heck you are talkin' bout.

Congratulations to Zepplin! Zepplin is a young, high energy working line German Shepherd that was rescued at a young age from an abusive situation. As a result, he had some particular needs, but he came through the program like a scamp... err I mean champ 🤣

Living with a dog is 90% following each other around, watching each other go potty, and wondering what the other has in their mouth.

Congratulations to Abilene and Poke and their folks. Abilene is the second dog in the family to be trained, and she did great. Her family brought Poke with them to pick her up, and we did some review with Abilene, and then we did some practice with both of them together. We ended with one person walking both of them in a nice heel.

I'd like to introduce you to Beau, the bernadoodle from Hico, TX. Beau came in with all the typical puppy and doodle issues. He is high energy, jumping on people, believing he's the boss, pulling on the leash, lots of barking, is very pushy, and a little defiant.

In the last 10 days, things have changed pretty dramatically. He's learned impulse control, to focus and pay attention, to follow human leadership, doesn't bark at all anymore, doesn't jump up, and has a nice off-leash heel.

Here is a training video from yesterday morning. This is his first sustained sit lesson outside. I did not capture it in the video, but we walked to the cul-de-sac off-leash, but on a long lead (which you can see in the video - it's used for safety purposes.) On the way back home we did downs, turns and more recalls - all without the direction of a leash.

Congratulations to Biscuit who went home end of last month! Biscuit's family are repeat customers who sent this cute mini-aussie bundle of energy to me from Trinity, TX. Her brother is Harper, the Rotty-doodle I trained a couple of months ago.

Biscuit came in somewhat nervous and high strung with a propensity to bolt out the door, jump on people, pull on the leash, whine and bark (a lot.) She went home with a very nice off-leash heel, not jumping up, good place board steadiness (and not bolting out the front door) and the barking was much improved (if not completely resolved) by time she left. All of the outdoors work we did, training in 6 different places, also helped her get comfortable being in a variety of different situations.

Congratulations to Pokie and his family, who went home yesterday, on completing the board and train. Pokie is a 2 yr old Blue Heeler/Norweigian Elkhound mix from Harker Heights, TX. He came in pretty anxious and nervous, with really bad leash pulling and other behaviors and went home a much well mannered young lad who has great handling on and off leash.

If you are still using a wire-frame kennel for your dogs, and are wondering what you can get them for Christmas, please have a look at the following article on my blog.

I have the kennel recommendation discussion with at least 80% of my customers. With each one, I reiterate the dangers of wireframe kennels and urge them to spend the money on a decent and safe kennel. After all, you've spent money to obtain your dog, feed it, keep it healthy, and train it. TLDR; A m...

Congratulations to Banks and his family. Banks, the English Pointer from China Springs, TX, graduated yesterday and did very well on his send home lesson. His Dad was amazed he was so calm! Looking to hear great things from Banks & Co. and it looks like they were impressed enough that I'll be training another pup for them in the spring.

Harper, our little rascally Rottiedoodle from Trinity, TX, also went home recently. Harper is just 6 months old with a lot of puppy still in her. Her parents had another dog previously trained by James Hamm, and brought Harper to me when they saw that James had trained me. (I'm closer.) Harper was a great dog, and we'll be seeing her sibling in January!

Bernie, the goldendoodle from Georgetown, TX went home today and did quite well. When his mom first called me to get him trained, she was very upset and at the end of her rope with him. 3 weeks later, he goes home with more manners and skills and is doing quite well.

Congratulations folks!

Please say a warm hello to Bernie! Bernie is an exuberant Goldendoodle from Austin who is exuberant and loves everyone but has very little impulse control! (Not a Goldendoodle! They are veritable models of self-control! 🤣)

Bernie is here to learn advanced off-leash obedience, manners, and get some exposure to other dogs. He's going to do just fine.

Please welcome Echo to the board and train program! Echo is a lovely little GSP that has a ton of energy and, unfortunately anxiety. Echo was found on the side of the road and was rescued. by her wonderful owners who just love on her.

In the week she's been with me it's very clear that someone tried to breed and train their own gundog, was very heavy-handed, and when they got in over their head, they dumped her.

She's extremely sensitive to any pressure and is terrified of electronic beeps, and the e-collar - so it's going to be a long haul to rehabilitate, slowly and gently. Often novice "back-country gundog trainers" that don't know what they are doing will use the beep on a collar as a warning before they give the dog a very painful stimulation. People learn this from watching other trainers on youtube and trying to copy them. Fear of the beep, and locking up when they feel the e-collar are two dead giveaways that this is what happened.

Please, please, please. If you have a dog that you want to be a gundog, don't follow YouTube. What you see on youtube is step 4 or 5 in a process that has already begun. All training systems are like learning a language, and before the dog even gets on the video - a foundation has already been laid. Please, find a mentor who knows what they are doing so that they can help you and teach you the proper way to use the e-collar.
