Abundance! Here's a proud papa moment of me and "my" mushrooms.

Growing into this year with so many fungal possibilities on the horizon. Focusing lots on low tek, small scale cultivation and education, and also projects of low tek passive outdoor cultivation.

I'm so thankful to be doing what I love. Thankful for the community of mycophiles. Thankful for all of the organisms and beings. Thankful for all those who support me in countless ways. It takes a village. It takes us all.

I'm so excited for what's to come in this year! Excelsior!

Bon Appétit! 1st harvest off the bucket! This is 8 oz. More to come! Yum!

What you are hardly seeing in this not so great picture is primordia (baby mushrooms) forming from a super low tek approach. Contaminated spawn. A bucket. A basement. I let it sit. Threw a bag on for extra humidity and there we have it. Pins coming in at 28 days post inoculation.

Back at it! Just did some low tek lime and cold water inoculations with some past prime oyster spawn. Intentionally using spawn that has some contamination (though still healthy). High inoculation ratio for optimum success. Wait and see! Golly gee! Good to be smelling the substrate again.

No dehydrator, but got a car. That'll do. Some forest finds of nettle. Dry, powder, and store for later.

Update on the cordyceps. Very low tek fruiting room. Aka bathroom. This is my first go at it....approaching without expecting any immediate success, but grateful if it comes my way. Success may not be in a harvest, but in learning what went wrong. Science is built on failure and repetition with the knowledge learned from previous trials.
Grateful for a stupendous community of mycophiles that have put out information and are quick to respond to questions I may have.

A sneak peak into the snail like fan unit inside my home made flowhood.

Usually it's covered up with a filter so it is left unseen, but I'm changing the filter now so I figured I'd show ya the what's beneath the hood of the hood.

Cardboard culture of a wild pleurotus spp. You can see here the fruit body that I started with and just how much it has totally grown through the cardboard like a champ! Now, we layer in more cardboard and keep growing it out!

Allow me to reintroduce myself. My name is Ezra Wool and I started From The Source Fungi 2 years ago. After traveling and envisioning a change in location on the horizon, I've decided to shut down mushroom production on the scale I was doing it previously. However, I am continuing (and always will be continuing) to study fungi and learn more about them and through them. I am switching gears and focusing my energy on more low tek, and low budget methods of cultivation.

As one door closes, another opens. I am now happy to share that I am offering consultation services to anyone who wants to grow fungi on a small or large scale. I am also continuing to make medicinal products with fungi such as tinctures and essences.

Additionally, this decision to shut down production allows me to come full circle back to the roots of the project, which is to help fungi be accessible for all. I am holding a cardboard clone of a wild oyster species in this picture. I will be growing it using more cardboard until it becomes large enough to use as spawn for a more nutritionally power-packed substrate.

The idea is to have a mother culture (like sourdough or a scoby) and take from it enough to start the next project, while always ensuring the mother is healthy. This drastically limits the amount of funds needed to start cultivating. You can do this for free. From nature. From the source.

I look forward to continuing to grow in my relation with fungi and delving into different nooks and crannies within the fungal realm and sharing my experiences here with you all. I feel deeply honored to be able to work in close relationship with fungal organisms and I am sure I will never stop exploring and learning from them. Sometimes I wonder who is cultivating who after all...

Back in the northeast. Enjoying the abundance and diversity of fungi.

I don't know many of these so I'm taking spore prints to dive a little deeper and then key them out!

Some beauties found in Idaho. Incredible fungal diversity in Eastern Idago at this time of year (to my surprise)

I surmise this is some kind of Pholiota spp but I admit I haven't actually done research to confirm.
