" Oz " a Foundation dog of our program, and one of my favorite dogs of all time. The product of a trip to Turkey to see for myself what was what with the various Turkish breeds. You can learn more about Oz, on our website proper. Where there's Kangal in the program today, it's from him. Probably the most heavily bred dog in the program.

If I might quote the oft misunderstood, and always difficult to grasp, 20th century philosopher Marshawn Lynch

“I’m just here so I don’t get fined”

Because not being “here,” in the Nerdaverse for a business such as this, has become economically punitive.

But I've got twenty years worth of breeding to document, that's already been documented on the website proper at

www.olympicdogs.net

Which is where anyone sincerely interested in the breeding program should go direct. I'm underway on the FB page but it's going to take awhile to build it out, document the purebreds, and the crosses that catch us up the present program.... till then

https://www.olympicdogs.net/current-litters

is the place to go, or simply subscribe to our youtube channel to forget about it, and be kept up to date automatically.

https://www.youtube.com/olympicdogs

But what I’m determined NOT TO DO “HERE,”
Is provide a handy list of past customers, for the powers that be, or the wanna be me !!

Digest that.

In Dogs, today’s buyer, is often tomorrow’s
“convenience breeder”
Today’s customer…tomorrow’s competitor.
I don’t sell dogs on un-enforceable spay/neuter contracts, or kid myself about stopping anyone else from breeding, I don’t even try. When your money becomes mine, my dog becomes yours.

But I’ll be damned if I’m going to provide a networking hub such that those who already have in-tact Olympicdogs and those who might like to have Olympicdog genetics, can find one another with a click, and go around yours truly. Or ride my marketing jock to sell half Olympic dogs, etc.

What that means, in effect, is existing owners fall into two distinctly different boxes.

Those who own in-tact, potential breeders; and those who demonstrably do not.

The latter group is encouraged to comment, or offer testimonial wherever, however, they find convenient, including on my FB business page, although I’ve got comments on lock down so you’ll have to reach out prior so I can allow it.

And though I do appreciate any sincerely selfless motivation to say a good word for the program, those with intact animals will need to send feedback via drop box, sans contact info, so I can post em myself, here or on YouTube or wherever.

It Doesn’t matter if I like you, believe you’ll never breed, or have my doubts. If your dog can breed I don’t want your input to provide contact info, intentional or otherwise. And forums like Facebook make that difficult to avoid.

I’ve turned off reviews, comments, etc. in large part to control that. Despite realizing the “algorithm” won’t approve, which will not help my greater goal here.

But I’m also not quite Zen enough to simply ignore comments, and don’t want the distraction of moderating them. If I have to decide which comment warrants viewing, addressing, or deleting… I’m in effect I’m moderating.

I’d rather treat everyone the same. Spare myself the distraction. And abort all those insights prophylactically. And if we’re keeping it real, which I intend to, I find comment sections of all sorts depressing. Readers seeking knowledge would be better off with a good book, writers espousing wisdom in comment sections…. are probably not the ones you should look to for it.

Moreover I’ve always had an innate distrust of FB and social media in general. The whole public conversation paradigm is a twisted bitch in my estimation; conceived, designed, and ultimately monetized to play on human frailty.

Before getting snagged, in pursuit of an Instagram business page ( Olympicdogsig ) in April of 2022 I had avoided FB entirely. By which time Meta, Google, and others, had so thoroughly metastasized the Marketplace it seems a mother lover must join the parade, to get paid. So here we go, but I’m determined to march to my own drummer, in doing so.

We now know the “content” of the free service was provided by the user.
And the User’s data, attention, and eyeballs are in fact… the product.
The internet may be the revenge of the nerds ( you can quote me on that ) but there’s still no free lunch on this rock. Only Change is, the I.T. nerds are shaking the public down for lunch money now.

All the social media giants, turns out, are essentially attention pimps. They compete, as such, to keep you standing on their corner, staring at “their content.” And take money from any John waiting in the wings wanting to hose you with advertising from your blind side, or sell your data down the line.

The game then for me becomes:

How to access the greater market, with as little time spent, and distraction suffered. The challenge, I dare say for us all, becomes to keep ones eyes on the prize of real life, where they belong in the real world. A life, in my case, that already demanded more time and focus than I ever seem to find, even before the perpetual distraction of the Pooter, or the smarter than me phone.

So hopefully you’ll forgive the merging of our first marketing jingle, and plan of action.

“Olympicdogs….Hold the comments…. Get the money”

And if it’s the breeding program you’re here to see, appreciate, learn more about, the best this FB page could hope to do is just send you to the

website proper: www.olympicdogs.net

Where all matters dog will be covered in much greater depth.

FOUNDATION BOERBOEL: "MANDELA"

Mandela was the best male Boerboel I've owned to date. He was everything a Boerboel is supposed to be. Biddable, sticky, naturally protective. Good with farm animals, great with my children and good with people in general so long as he understood them to be welcome. But he was also a natural born man stopper, a serous beast; which is hard to find, even in breeds such as the Boerboel that are supposed to be.

We bred him heavily !! To a variety of breeds: Boerboels, Kangals, Danes, Dogos, and mixes thereof. And you'll meet some of those crosses later.

He has his own page in our Boerboel section, of the website proper www.olympicdogs.net

https://www.olympicdogs.net/chosen-breeds/s-african-boerboels/boerboel-mandela

And his descendants are numerous in

https://www.olympicdogs.net/current-sires
https://www.olympicdogs.net/current-dams
and
https://www.olympicdogs.net/current-litters

There isn't much video of Mandela, but I've included some of him below in an earlier video post, and were putting together a playlist of videos in which Mandela can seen on our youtube channel

Foundation BoerBoel: "Homegirl"

Her story is another case in point, about what it means to actually sift for your breeding stock. The short version is that a would-be breeder, found it wasn't as easy to sell dogs as it looked, at least not from her remote rainforest reservation location sans a website and papers, which she had not managed to acquire somehow.

She wound up dropping an entire litter of Boerboels on my yard, including the one she had intended to keep herself, after making a deal that included a mixed breed in trade, and promising the papers would materialize.

Which they never did, but that was alright because I had clearly explained to the people that bought the rest of the litter.... it was out of my hands, and we made agreements for either scenario.

This would-be breeder had imported two purebred Boerboels from S. Africa, one of whom from a breeder, friend of mine, James Brennan of Coomore Boerboels, after reading a kind mention him on my website I penned upon returning from a S. Africa trip in which James's help was key in netted me Mandela who'll you'll meet next.

I knew both breeders, I knew what was behind both dogs, I knew they were Boerboels, papers be damned. Pick of the entire litter, was clearly a dog they had called "Patty" and initially intended to keep. We renamed her "Homegirl" for her remarkable level of stick, even amongst the stickiest of breeds that is the Boerboel.

In effect I got pick of litter, as I had in choosing from my own.

There isn't much by way of Photos or Video of "Homegirl" but I did include a short bit of ancient video in which she makes a cameo with Mandela and a kangal escorting my goats into cougar country below.

Writing with the luxury of hindsight, she turned out to be a key contributor to the program. She has her own page on the website proper.

https://www.olympicdogs.net/chosen-breeds/s-african-boerboels/boerboel-homegirl

Her blood is in many of the dogs in our

https://www.olympicdogs.net/current-sires
and
https://www.olympicdogs.net/current-dams
and
https://www.olympicdogs.net/current-litters

Which is the only reason we make mention of her here.

And I should probably make a post for Boerboel busts at some point also, of which there are many, in any discerning breeding program. But later for that, I'm still catching up with documenting the winners.

SOUTH AFRICAN BOERBOELS: This post has photos of three females we kept and bred out of "Hope" Our first Boerboel female, who we showed a in previous post.

A much more thorough understanding of Boerboels in general
Can be found on our website proper at
https://www.olympicdogs.net/chosen-breeds/s-african-boerboels/boerboels-1-to-10

The take home message is one you'll find me restating again and again, that a real breeder sifts heavily, and has the means to do so.
As opposed to a "convenience breeder" who will build on wha
t ever they have.... cause it's all they have, and they probably didn't go to any great lengths to get it either.

Of the three Hope daughters: Tallwater, Agressa, Boelbella, all of whom were bred heavily to various breeds, only Tallwater's descendants remain in the program today in 2022. I'm not seeing a way to add captions to individual photos, she would be the one with the goats with whom she had an uncommon bond which is largely why her genes carried forward in the program, she has her own page on the website proper.
https://www.olympicdogs.net/chosen-breeds/s-african-boerboels/boerboel-tallwater

This FB page, built in hindsight intends to chronicle some of the dogs we've used in the past to get to the present. But the website proper www.olympicdogs.net does a more thorough job of that and everything else, for those brave enough to leave the Nerdaverse,

Some of TallWater's descendants can be found there in one percentage or another at the links below

Foundation Boerboels:

Olympicdogs "Hope"

Her dam "Heaters Doc"

And Doc's sire DKH's "Nightrain"

These dogs were what I estimated to be some of the best Boerboel genetics available domestically at the time. I went on to go to S. Africa myself later to select from a much larger gene pool, those dogs can be found farther up the stack, closer to the present, eventually

You can learn and see more about these dogs, and those that came later, and learn more about our breeding program on our website proper

www.Olympicdogs.net

The program has been in effect for over twenty years, and I'm just coming to FB now, which means I'll have to cover 20 plus years, just to catch up to the present.

In so doing we will go from dogs whose existence was only captured in photos to those who are only recorded on video, with a period in between where some had both.

I'll separate posts by breed first.

Then particular crosses.

Just to lay a sort of foundation to this FB page, and at some point it will likely become mostly video of current dogs, litters, etc.

For those who prefer video, we do also have a youtube channel

youtube.com/olympicdogs

For those who prefer photos, I'll be building an Instagram page simultaneous to this page.

Olympicdogsig

But the most comprehensive destination will always be the website proper.

In an attempt at some sort of structure, I've decided to start at the beginning, with the oldest dogs we have photos for, whose blood can be traced to

Current Sires: https://www.olympicdogs.net/current-sires
and
Current Dams: https://www.olympicdogs.net/current-dams

Which means I'll have to cover 20 plus years, just to catch up to the present :)
And in doing so we will go from dogs whose existence was only captured in photos to those who are only recorded in video, with a short period in between where some had both.
So the drift will also be photo centric to video centric here, as we get closer to the present.
We will also have to document the four primary breeds we've used so far, before we even get into the various mixes. It might take awhile. But again, and always, if you're interested the program the website proper, and the youtube channel , already document it in much greater detail then we will ever get into via page.
www.olympicdogs.net
www.youtube.com/olympicdogs

Click a dogs name to go to its dedicated page. Some will be "on the Yard" Others may be locally accessible for breedings. And some we will be able to get semen from via mail.
