Scratching from a race is not easy but but doing the best thing for for my dogs is. After a very hard fast start my team didn’t have its normal eating habits or Steady speed. I carried a dog for two runs in a row tru the hills Ginny and Paige both had slightly strained tricep muscles so I returned them at lake Louise and sourghdough checkpoints. Coming into and at sourdough the temperatures were as low as 60 below zero the dogs and I did well with the cold and had zero frostbite issues. I wanted to scratch here but felt keeping them at a slow pace for the last two runs was going to benefit them and they were going to come together on this next stretch of trail. Me and 10 terrific dogs headed over the hills for Myers lake checkpoint It was an incredible run and the dog team was definitely coming back together! I had dogs screaming as we climbed up steep hills and could tell the dogs are really enjoying themselves. I decided up there in gods beautiful country with a completely clear head That it was going to best benefit my team in the coming Iditarod To end it here on a good note rather than take the chance. The Copper basin 300 is an incredibly well organized volunteer event Thank you so much to all the volunteers to keep these race’s going I so look forward to coming back again next year! While nobody at Team Can’t Stop raced in the ACE Race, we did go see the dog teams and help out at the finish! We love everyone at Alpine Creek Lodge and are so grateful to have such amazing neighbors who bring together the mushing community in great ways

Thank you to Casey Trevarthen and Marcus Re for their sponsorship of Solomon this season! Solomon has a hilarious personality-- he's always ready to rock and his crazy excitement to run is contagious! He has been running up in lead a fair amount this last month of training, and we are really impressed by his performance. Last winter, Solomon finished the Willow 300, Ididntrod 200, and the Alpine Creek Excursion 300 race. Casey and Marcus are also hometown friends of Jules who wanted to support the other half of the Elim/Solomon brother sponsorship. We are so grateful that such amazing younger dogs are getting sponsored because these guys are sure to impress this coming race season! Look out for Solomon at all of our races this winter!

Thank you to Kyle Carver and Dave Trevarthen for sponsoring Elim (the black and tan leader on the left in both photos) this winter! Elim is a fantastic young male, who exhibited amazing leader qualities last winter in his yearling year. This winter, he has been running with the main team and killing it in lead! Kyle reached out to us a few weeks back after hearing Julie's podcast interview with Take A Seat, Not A Side: a couples podcast (go check it out if you haven't already!) and wanted to sponsor a younger dog probably going with Jules since they grew up in the same town! We have some hometown UP Michigan folks supporting the team and kennel, and we are so grateful! A group of them sponsored two dogs so keep your eyes out for Elim's brother, Solomon, who was sponsored by other hometown folks of Julie's! Thanks again, Kyle and Dave!

With our last week of temps below -20 and a warmer forecast nowhere in the foreseeable future, it’s time to get all of our foxtails in good order! Ginny is helping us sort through the tails and doubling as our resident model. We attach the fox tails to the dogs’ harnesses to protect their flanks from the cold, and they also look really snazzy. Ginny gives her approval!

Our very own Julie Ahnen shared about the dogs, mushing, her life in the bush and as a wild land firefighter and much more on Take A Seat, Not A Side: a couples podcast! This is Julie’s fourth winter working at Team Can’t Stop, and she has been an invaluable asset all the while. Her dedication to the dogs and the sport is a testament to her awesomeness! Julie will be running her rookie Iditarod with the second team this March. Go give it a listen to learn more about mushing in general and our kennel!

Thank you to Mary and Randy Ahnen for sponsorsing Fierce! Fierce is an impressive 2-year-old who was an outstanding yearling last year, covering 900 miles of race trails! She was aptly named, as she was queen of the puppy pen and still shows that powerful personality. She is our female link to Jessie’s bloodline, and reminds him greatly of her grandmother and his best dog ever, Rosa. She shows great leadership qualities and runs up front in the team more often than not. Fierce will surely be on every race again this year—look out for her at Iditarod 2022!

We have some exciting news today! About half of the yearling team is live on the website!! The others will follow in the coming weeks, but right now, dog training is our top priority so we make time for what we can. This photo was taken almost exactly a year ago and really is so special to look back at...we had FIVE litters last summer all within the month of August and, now, they are maturing and running most days. It's truly a beautiful sight to see their growth and excitement to run. They grew up like one giant posse and now they get to run in the team together! Check out their page on the website to meet some of them today. We also have another cool addition about our retired dogs and their owners on the website to read through! https://www.teamcantstopracing.com/yearling-team

Thank you Perrin Dargan for sponsoring Polar this year! Polar is a super sweet and goofy dog who is quite impressive on the line. Polar led the yearling team all last winter finishing the Solstice 100, Copper Basin 300, Willow 300 and then going on Iditarod with good friend Kristy Berington! He ran all of his races predominately in lead and far exceeded expectations. We are very proud of Polar and can’t wait to get him out on the race trails again this year!

Team Can’t Stop is proud to be sponsored by Howling Dog Alaska! Jessie has been using Howling Dog harnesses for years now with great success. Not only do they have a nice and soft padding to prevent rub and comfortably fit the dogs, but they also offer a range of options with the side-pull ring which we can adjust to give the affect of a half-harness. Even Rosie got a special Howling Dog jacket, making her feel more like a sled dog (even though we’re not quite sure she realizes that she isn’t one)! Thank you Howling Dog for creating such quality dog gear and supporting Team Can’t Stop!

We got on sleds a few days back! The snow is great, and the dogs are happy! Went for a quick camp at Alpine Creek Lodge Alaska. It’s so fun to visit our friends at Alpine Creek Lodge and their resident mushers this winter from Rock On Racing!
