Lace monitors - Varanus varius - spend plenty of time up in trees, often preying on birds nests. Despite their size (they’re Australia’s second largest monitor) the Lace Monitor is a great climber, thanks to it’s sharp claws. Young individuals are more arboreal, often spending their lives in the same area.

Beautiful yellow Banksia flowers. These resilient native flowers can be found in a deep red colour as well. They attract lots of different native birds that feed on their sweet nectar. They’re found along much of the east coast in arid woodlands, forests, heathlands, and shrublands.

Woulda been rude not to check out the iconic Taronga Zoo. It’s situated in a really unique spot..a little outcrop of land in the Sydney harbour.

It was great to see the Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Centre or ARCC for short. They’re doing great work over there. I’d love to incorporate some of these practices into RE. So good to see that there’s a massive community of like minded people, equally as passionate about conservation as me.

Last pic is of the crew at the free flight bird show. Another standout of the trip!
