BHWT Rehoming - here is where the girls journey begins

This is the special day that the girls have been dreaming of! Freedom!!

🐓This is our Monmouth rescue point. The chickens are collected from the battery farm (by other volunteers) early in the morning. They are put into the crates and loaded into a van, then off they go to us!

🐓The hens arrive
We then carry the crates from the van inside the barn. Once all crates are placed down we can start letting them out!
🐓The hens will be terrified, hot, thirsty and hungry. It’s a very big day for them.

🐓Next, we look out for any injured/poorly girls. They are then separated and someone will keep a close eye on them. They usually go home with someone experienced.

🐓Mostly all the girls will need their nails trimmed and many will need to be sprayed with a purple spray (to prevent pecking) if they have been pecked/bloody sores.

🐓Then the girls new owners come to collect! We have to catch them and put them safely into their carrier.

If you want to help hens then register to volunteer with the BHWT or FSFH.

If you want to re home some hens you can register online or call the BHWT helpline

Chickens make amazing pets - this hen is called Honey! 3 years ago she was rescued from a battery farm. She would have been crammed in cruelly overcrowded wire cages along with many other hens.

Many hens suffer from brittle bones and bone fractures, as well as feather loss and foot problems due to the restrictive environment and wire floors.

Dust bathing, exercising and foraging are all impossible for these girls.

Then, after 72 weeks of hell they are sold off to be slaughtered and used in pet foods. Luckily, rescuers such as BHWT and FSFH are able to help save thousands of these girls and provide them with forever, loving homes that they deserve.

🔴822,875 hens have been rehomed by the BHWT since 2005

Honey is a very lucky and happy chook who is now loving her life of freedom. Each hen has a different personality! Honey is small but feisty 😈 but loves a cuddle 🥰

Post a photo of your rescue chook and her story below! I would love to hear 🐔💕
