In doing so we have learned so much but in that we always realize how much more there is to learn. Welcome to Basset hounds of Pennsylvania Kennels, located in PA. Our home and kennel are nestled on ten acers of land in PA. We welcome visitors, especially if you are considering adding one of our pups to your family. You are welcome to come and visit our dogs as many other people have done over

the years. God has given us the privilege of being able to be stewards over these wonderful animals and with that comes much responsibility, which we take very seriously. "for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine" Psalm 50:10

About Bassets
The Basset Hound is known for its long ears, droopy eyes, short legs and friendly disposition. The "Hush Puppy" trademark makes this breed iconic. They truly melt your heart with their sad solemn expression. Their loyal devoted demeanor makes this breed a family favorite. Originally from France, the Basset was bred for the hunt. They are the top in tracking due to their low to the ground nose and long ears which aids in picking up the scent. The word Basset is derived from "bas", meaning low. Even though they were bred for their hunting instincts, they are equally at home as a beloved companion. Not a frisky, hyper breed, but a calm sometimes lazy couch potato who just wants to please! BEFORE You Get Your Puppy
AFTER You Get Your Puppy. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

American Basset Hound vs European Basset Hound
The question that most often arises when a family is deciding to bring a basset hound into their home is “Are your basset hounds American or European?” Simply stated, the American Kennel Club, or AKC, doesn’t recognize an American basset or European as a distinct breed. Some breeders use this nomenclature to trick unknowing buyers into spending more. In the United States, a basset is a basset. Some bassets are more wrinkled than others, although bassets that are extremely wrinkled are usually fed to be morbidly obese and are not well exercised. Kennel clubs in Europe, such as the United Kingdom and France, do differentiate between basset hounds that are shaped differently. Bassets that are trimmer with pedigree proven to be Basset Artesian Normand are referred to as such, while wrinkly bassets are referred to as traditional Basset Hounds. These two distinct breeds were developed in France and Britain for different purposes. However, both breeds exhibit the exact same friendly, easy going personality. Since the AKC doesn’t recognize these two separate breeds, all imported and domestic basset hounds are classified as one breed, basset hound. When choosing a breeding pair, PA Oak Basset Kennel understands that almost all families are looking for a pet with a specific temperament that will blend well with both family members and other pets, rather than a true working or show companion. Our breeding pairs are raised to exhibit these traits, enriching the lives of their owners. We take great pride in our breeding practices and all new owners can be confident that one of our pups will make a fantastic addition to their unique homes. Pricing
We developed our pricing model based on both our past interactions with buyers and the services we provide, allowing us to better serve our buyers by focusing greater attention to their needs. Our breeding service includes a lifelong commitment to pups and buyers. This includes a text chain service allowing all the buyers in a litter to communicate with one another as the litter mates grow. If there's a problem or a question, our buyers can not only ask us, but also their pups' littermates, allowing buyers to be part of a larger family. We also offer our buyers the ability to return their pups no questions asked and to choose a replacement pup from a future litter at the time they're ready. What accompanies our puppies to their forever homes? All puppies are accompanied by PA Oak Basset Kennel puppy packets. Each packet includes:

AKC registration

Four generation AKC pedigree

Health certificate from Marks Animal showing their first vaccinations history

PA Oak Basset Kennel's contract

Housebreaking 101
Because we don't attempt to housebreak puppies, they have unlimited access to food all times. To housebreak, new puppy owners will need to limit meals to up to three meals per day. Your puppy will need to eat until they're completely uninterested and then be taken out until they produce or up to 15 minutes. If they do produce in that time, give them several of their favorite treats. If not, bring them back inside, watch them closely for signs they're ready, and take them out in 5 minute increments until they produce. Give several of their favorite treats once they produce. Are rawhide chews safe for Basset Hound puppies? Rawhides are meant to be long-lasting chews that break down into tiny, soft pieces over time. Basset hound puppies are NOT strong chewers that are able to break off rawhide chunks large enough to pose a major choking hazard or cause an intestinal blockage. Bassets truly take their time chewing rawhides and do not swallow large pieces thus, they should have no digestive problems with these treats. Considering bassets' chewing habits and health, we highly recommend the extra expense of high-quality, American-made chews as soon as your new puppy arrives at their new home. However, as always, consult with your veterinarian while deciding which chews to purchase. PICK UP AND DELIVERY OPTIONS
