How to care for wildlife this season!
🚨 URGENT: HELP SAVE BABY SQUIRRELS & OWLETS! 🚨 Please share!
With high winds worsening into tomorrow, baby squirrels and great-horned owlets are in danger tonight and into tomorrow. These vulnerable babies are still in their nests, but with gusts expected to reach 70 mph, we anticipate tree limbs breaking and entire nests being blown to the ground. This puts the babies at serious risk of injury, hypothermia, and death. Here’s how you can help:
🔎 Check for fallen babies under trees, in downed branches, and on the ground. Squirrels may be small, hairless, and look like baby mice. Hypothermic babies may appear lifeless but can recover with warmth.
🧤 Wear gloves, place them in a small box lined with a t-shirt or towel. Keep them warm. Ask your Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator for direction.
🚫 Do NOT feed or give fluids. This can kill a hypothermic baby. Keep them in a dark, quiet place away from pets and people.
⚠️ Injured adult birds are also at risk due to high winds—bring them to RMWA if found.
🚑 Bring them to Rocky Mountain Wildlife Alliance ASAP!
