We ask for you to share a photo of your choice in black and white to show your support for this cause with the hashtag &

The colour of our skin should not be a defining feature as to how we treat each other or are treated, so it’s time we continue to stand up against racial prejudice and intolerant attitudes.

Black Lives Matter showed us the power of social media with the posting of black squares and we too, wish to continue this support but we can’t do it alone, which is why we are asking for your help.

Morning everyone ☀️

Here’s 9 year old me...As a child, I never used to collect cars, action figures or play computer games (unless it was horse based 🤣) over the years I managed to assemble my own herd of 100’s of Schleich horse figures and I would spend hours and hours doing role play imagining different scenes and situations with them.

I adored these figures as they were the next best thing to horses in reality. From these figures... I managed to teach myself about the parts of a horse but I also taught myself to be able to identify almost every horse breed in the world by the age of 10.

Once I had been given the opportunity to get hands on with the horses and ponies, I went on to spend most weekends mucking out and filling hay nets to earn myself a ride and the schleich figures were boxed up and stored in the loft which are still up there to this day!

Who else collected these figures?

It’s amazing because in today’s society, There are lots of inspirational young people whom have started YouTube Chanell’s offering footage of their day to day lives with their horses which I don’t recall having access to from my childhood. It was always the people at the top with their ridden demos and masterclasses which back then, was way out of my region of understanding and knowledge.

Yesterday, I got in contact with the one and only who was kind enough to give us a quick follow and shout out! From this we have managed to recruit exactly 300 and counting new followers in under 24 hours, with our following now over 2K 🎉 A warm welcome to all of my new followers 👋🏾 I hope that you enjoy following my page and supporting the movement of my campaign 👏🏾

Coventry is the city of culture, bustling with 100’s of different ethnicities and cultures. Being multicultural means that we accept each other for our differences and we show interest in learning about the different beliefs that individuals may have.

Equestrianism is classed as a “ white privileged” sport meaning that there is a stereotype that over time has developed that all horse riders must be rich, white or upper class which in today’s society is not acceptable.

Take me for example, by day... a smelly horse lover often covered head to toe in hay and mud but, by night your average inner city boy that you would never have thought had attained the correct qualifications and gained the necessary skills to ride a horse.

From a short 30 minute drive, it’s amazing how my sense of belonging can change. I go from what I call home, a busy city with 100’s of people to the tranquil countryside with acres and acres of grazing for horses and ponies.

14/11/2020

My appearance may not mind match the reality of what an equestrian stereotypically looks like however it’s one of my missions to tackle the stigma that surrounds the sport. Here... you see me in my day to day yard clothing which I typically do most of my yard chores in from mucking out to filling hay nets. We then shift to seeing what I would wear if I were to go out competing, this is what a non equestrian typically expects you to look like when say that you own horses, glamorous and smart clothing which is not always the case 🤣 and finally, you see reality! My true colors, I live in inner-city Coventry and this is my way of life, living and looking. There is always two sides to every and story this is me, horses nowhere to be seen amongst the high rise buildings and high street stores!

Today is an important day across the United Kingdom being Children in need but it is a day that sits significantly close to my family and I’s hearts. This is Rio, My little brother. He is 10 years old and he suffers with Muscular Dystrophy as well as several other health conditions.

As my passion was horses, mum always loved coming to watch my riding lessons but I always remember her having to wait in the car due to Rios sensory disorders and the smell of horses making him physically sick 😢 I can only imagine how difficult it would have been for mum to have to try and keep both of us happy with one child immune to the smell of horses and manure and one that heaves every two seconds because of the smell 🤣

variety of charities across the UK donate to many establishments including hospices and support groups for the disabled and disadvantaged children, One of them being Rio’s school where he receives regular hydro-therapy and physiotherapy. None of which would be accessible to him if it wasn’t for the nations kind gestured donations to such a great charity!

Please take a moment to donate even just £1.00 to the fantastic charity because very penny counts and will make a difference!

Have a great day all! 👍🏾💛💚💙

Good morning ☀️
Today we Meet a lovely lady called Jade and here’s her story 👇🏾...

“Hey there 👋🏾 I Just saw your post about Natarlia. I can sooooo relate. I live just outside London and although there are lots of Yards, I wasn’t always accepted. I started riding when I was 12...now a bit older (erm...38 😂🤣😂) and never had the same opportunities, but never gave up. I also came from a non horsey family and my parents didn’t have the pennies for me to have regular lessons. I ended up with an neighbour helping, but that was short lived. Worked on yards but never taken seriously. When I was finally able to pay for lessons It was then I found a yard that would took me serious enough to ride, and teach me the finer points of riding. Long story short. I am now happy to say 5 years ago finally I got my very own Mare. Due to illnesses we’ve been working very hard over the past 5 year’s to get her to a level we can now do stuff. We’ve been SJ and we’re hoping to try eventing next year 😁.”

Wishing jade and her beautiful horse every success out on the eventing field! I hope to see you at an event in the near future!

Best wishes,
Reece 🙌🏾

During the development time it has taken to progress my campaign, I never really knew which way it was going to go! All I knew is I was a young man who had many negative experiences in the industry and I wanted to scream from rooftops to try and make people aware of the problems that we face as an industry!

using my platform, I am going to broadcast stories from any individuals whom have reached out to me to tell me their stories and experiences. Please feel free to drop me a DM sharing any equality/diversity/inclusion related stories with me!

Meet Natarlia 👋🏾 natarlia told us... 👇🏾

“Hi! I’m Natarlia. I’m 18 years old and have been riding on and off since the age of 4. This is mainly because it was so hard to access for me. I live in Hackney, East London and there was quite a large financial barrier to be able to go regularly. I come from a family of non-horsey people with only 1 or 2 horsey friends and persuing riding was incredibly difficult. I struggled with this for more than half of my riding career until recently i was lucky enough to invest in Loaning this horse called Prince. We’re just doing some casual riding right now, getting my skill back up. Lets see whats in store for me and Prince!”

I wish you every success in this industry no matter what avenue you decide to venture on!

So... Today, I thought I would share something a little bit different with you guys! Having horses, comes with a lot of responsibility! It’s like having a new born child that is constantly in need of affection and nurturing ( minus the screaming and crying 😬) Horses have to be cleaned out twice a day, receive regular access to fresh water and hay/haylege as well as being groomed daily, all of these jobs seem like a chore but to an equestrian it’s therapeutic. For those from inner city communities, they won’t be familiar with the unique smell of the dusty bale of straw that’s just been delivered! To us equestrians ... the fresh sweet smell of haylege and the unique aroma of the muck heap is equivalent to the smell of your favorite most expensive designer perfume!. It’s crazy that from a 30 minute journey I go from a city of high rise buildings and lots of people to the pure utopia of fields, mud and more mud 🤣This isn’t a chore! It’s a way of life that we equestrians choose to live and quite frankly, a way of life I personally wouldn’t change for the world. Heres a quick time lapse of me cleaning out my stable for Rose. Happy Monday everyone, wishing everyone a great start to the week! 🤩

“You can’t go back and change the beginning but you can educate in order to change the ending”

I have been trying to fit in since a child, passion comes from experience, take a Walk in my shoes and then you will realise why I do what I do. I have experienced things first hand and have evaluated where things go wrong in order to help people of the future

My drive is to make equestrian pathways for inner city children from cultural and diverse backgrounds. I aim to Tackle the stereotypes that are associated around equestrianism and make acceptance standard and automatic no matter our backgrounds.

Conscious and unconscious biases are often inherited through institutions lack of coverage of such an important topic within society. History is a core topic that is taught amongst all schools and colleges worldwide but Black history is often a very touch and go topic covered in October due to the annual celebration of Black History Month.

Whilst at equine college, It was one of the first modules that we were taught about the evolution of the “Equus Ferus Caballus” and the History of the Equestrian sport along with it’s celebrated legends. However, we were never educated about some of the significant black individuals whom made an appearance in the sport such as; Oliver Skeete and Anthony Hamilton.

Benefits of teaching Black History would eliminate the stereotype of the “white upper class” participants in the sport and it would become standard acceptance if it were to be talked about in more openly in equine family homes and establishments.
It is vital that as a community we except everyone for our differences wether it be disability, race or hair type and we should embrace the different cultures that are apart of todays society.

To what extent do you agree this would benefit our industry? Leave your comments below...
