Friends of Dallas Animal Services (DAS) is a 501c3 nonprofit partner of DAS, one of the country's largest open intake shelter.

Friends of Dallas Animal Services exists to directly benefit Dallas Animal Services by supporting programs and services that further its vision of providing compassionate care of shelter animals and finding positive outcomes for placeable pets. It is comprised of a group of devoted individuals who, first and foremost, believe that all animals deserve the highest quality of life. We understand the

importance of credible partnerships and are determined to leverage those relationships in a way that elevates the work of DAS. Friends of DAS directly benefits DAS by supporting programs and services that further its vision of providing compassionate care of shelter animals and finding positive outcomes for all placeable pets. DAS envisions a sustainable live release rate of above 90% through its Dallas90 initiative. DAS achieved this goal for the first time in history in 2020 and needs your help to continue this positive trend. Happy Turkey Day from an adoptable turkey named Carol ( ) 🦃🐶 and of course, from all of us at Friends of DAS!

Five years ago, a small group of (DAS) volunteers founded Friends of DAS, United by a love of animals. They set out to help DAS tackle some of the unique challenges that a city shelter often faces.

Together since then, we have raised over $1.3 million to sponsor enrichment, fostering, medical care, and general support for shelter pets and have fulfilled 100% of financial requests from DAS which gives staff members room to breathe, grow, and find new ways to get pets into homes. 🧡

So however you’re celebrating Thanksgiving today, please know that your involvement with Friends of DAS makes a lasting impact and we are so so thankful for friends like YOU! 🫶

🚨 Tiny Kitten In Need Of Urgent Tail Amputation 🚨

Skip’s journey started when he was discovered alone, wandering the streets, with no one to care for him. He had somehow survived long enough to be noticed by a compassionate passerby who immediately brought him to the shelter. Upon his arrival at , it was immediately clear that Skip needed urgent medical attention.

After evaluating Skip’s injury, the DAS veterinary team determined that a tail amputation is the best option to prevent infection and ease his pain. Thankfully, 1 veterinary partner has agreed to perform the surgery, and DAS have a dedicated foster ready to support Skip through his surgery and recovery. Now, we need YOUR to help to cover the costs of his procedure, as well as provide essential supplies like food and litter to keep him comfortable in foster care.

A friend to all, Ana spreads her volunteer time & talent between pets and people alike, with a specific focus on reuniting pets with their families through Dallas Animal Services and Adoption Center “Home Again Hero’s” program 🚙 .

🚨 A DAS kitten desperately needs our help!! 🚨

Glitterbomb was found injured and alone, with scratches all over her face and a gruesome wound on her front left leg that has started to turn necrotic. The damage is severe, and it appears her leg is broken as well. At this point, amputation may be the only option to save her life.

Please consider donating to Glitterbomb’s care. Every little bit helps, and together, we can give this brave kitten the second chance she desperately needs. 🙏

Happy Tails Thursday 🖤 meet Sadie, she came into in May 2024 as a 5 month old, stray puppy. She was very scared and shut down in the shelter environment, and went to a foster home where her adorable personality blossomed. Sadie learned to trust people and became buddies with her foster brother. A few weeks later, Sadie attended an adoption event with her foster mom. A group of friends at the event kept circling back to visit her, and before the end of the event, they came back one last time for her new dad to adopt her. Since being adopted almost 5 months ago, Sadie has continued to thrive! Sadie goes to daycare where she has made so many doggy friends, has traveled to vacation with her dad in upstate New York, loves doing zoomies in her neighborhood playyard, and is SO very loved by her dad. This little girl has come so far from the shy pup she was in the shelter, to the confident and happy girl she is today, and it makes our hearts so full! We are so grateful that Sadie found such an incredible forever home, thank you for adopting and being the bestest dog dad to Sadie! 🫶🐕‍🦺

Can you believe we’re only ONE DAY from ?! 😲

We know we often feature big dogs in our stories about , but the shelter also helps small dogs too! Just a few months ago, an adorable dog named ChiChi found her perfect match with adopters Ray and Keith. 🧡

On a hot day this summer, Ray and Keith found 12-year-old ChiChi alone on their street, trying to get inside a neighbor’s house. She didn’t have a microchip and their attempts to find her owners were unsuccessful.

They contacted DAS and decided to keep ChiChi through the shelter’s “foster to adopt” program, which allows potential adopters to make sure a pet is a good match for them before welcoming them permanently into their home!

“The services DAS offers are phenomenal,” Ray shares. “ChiChi had a physical, was heartworm tested, dewormed of intestinal parasites, had a spay check (she had been spayed), had rabies and other immunizations, was microchipped, and had her initial flea and heartworm preventative administered.”

“ChiChi is my little shadow,” Ray says. “Even though she is older and mostly deaf, somehow she knows when I come home and finds me.”

ChiChi truly found her perfect match— but it takes funding and community support to help more pets find their perfect match.

Come with us to pass our toys to the pets at @dallasanimalservices! 🧸 These toys were generously donated by @gladdogsnation, who is known for their adorable and environmentally-friendly, upcycled pet toys. They start by rescuing gently-used, stuffed children’s toys from going to the landfill. Then sanitize them, remove anything hazardous to a pet (like hard eyes or bean fillings) and transform them into one-of-a-kind, eco-friendly pet toys.
