Friends of Dallas Animal Services (DAS) is a 501c3 nonprofit partner of DAS, one of the country's largest open intake shelter.

Friends of Dallas Animal Services exists to directly benefit Dallas Animal Services by supporting programs and services that further its vision of providing compassionate care of shelter animals and finding positive outcomes for placeable pets. It is comprised of a group of devoted individuals who, first and foremost, believe that all animals deserve the highest quality of life. We understand the

importance of credible partnerships and are determined to leverage those relationships in a way that elevates the work of DAS. Friends of DAS directly benefits DAS by supporting programs and services that further its vision of providing compassionate care of shelter animals and finding positive outcomes for all placeable pets. DAS envisions a sustainable live release rate of above 90% through its Dallas90 initiative. DAS achieved this goal for the first time in history in 2020 and needs your help to continue this positive trend. A to start the week!!

Chicago (now Sparrow) came to DAS in rough shape. She had some medical issues and was nervous around people. The odds were stacked against her, but life has a funny way of working out in unexpected and positive ways.

One person said the fateful words so many of us who adopt pets from a shelter have said before - “I’m going to take a chance on her.” And that’s all Sparrow needed - a chance.🧡

Today, Sparrow is living her best life. She is extremely sweet and love cuddles. It took getting her out of the shelter to see her true personality.

Sparrow’s mom says, “We love her! Thanks for all that y’all do and allowing me to adopt her!”

As a collective, we strive to be a voice for each deserving pet at DAS. With that, today we welcome dedicated volunteer Melissa Mikalsen for our FODAS Volunteer Spotlight 💡 .

If you spend any time at Dallas Animal Services and Adoption Center , you know the name and the face. Since moving to Texas, Melissa is relentless in her efforts to assist in placing as many pets as possible. Once she discovered the many challenges facing the homeless pet population of DFW she “never looked back.” 💪.

Friends of DAS officially launched 5 years ago and back then, we had no idea just how much positive impact people like you would have on homeless pets.

Since 2019, Friends of DAS has been able to fulfill 100% of requests for financial assistance from Dallas Animal Services thanks to generous donors — and a large part of that support is given each year on North Texas Giving Day.

We are excited to announce our new partnership with Run Project. This partnership gives us the opportunity to receive $30 for every volunteer who signs up to help with Run Project races. 🏃‍♂️

This gorgeous girl is Alyssa from , she is approximately 3 years old and a petite 33 pounds! Her story til now is heartbreaking. A Good Samaritan and DAS volunteer saw Alyssa and 3 other dogs wandering a local park during Memorial Day Weekend. Our volunteer was later able to catch Alyssa and get her to safety at DAS. Unfortunately, one of her companions was HBC and the other two could not be found. 💔

She went to doggy playgroup at the shelter and did well - she was a bit shy at first and then warmed up (she was also with 3 other huskies, so she is most likely dog friendly, but we always recommend slow introductions).

Alyssa had a little break from the shelter where her temporary foster said she was very sweet & was seeking attention. Unfortunately Alyssa has come down with a doggy cold, and would greatly benefit from a loving foster or forever home to recover in.

This summer, we’re thrilled to have the ongoing opportunity to spread pet heat awareness for a second year at . On a warm day of just 85 degrees, pavement temperatures can reach upwards of 130 degrees, and that doesn’t even take humidity into account for our furry friends 🥵 . The precious pets of Dallas Animal Services and Adoption Center want to send a big THANK YOU to Nylabone for providing DAS pups with enough bones to go around to all of the dogs in the Shelter’s care and then some! 🙌

These bones are critical for kennel enrichment with the dogs and we can’t thank Nylabone enough for their generosity in donating so many! 🦴

Who wants ice cream?

This Saturday, May 18th from 11am-1:30pm, DAS is rolling in the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream truck to sprinkle some sweetness into your day! Come adopt a pet and celebrate new beginnings with a scoop of happiness for both you AND your new furry friend. 🍨🐶

Big thank you to our donors for this yummy event!

But that’s not all! In honor of “No Dirty Dishes Day,” we’re dishing out puzzle feeder bowls to add some extra fun to your pup’s mealtime. Puzzle feeders help your pup to not gobble up their food so quickly. It’s also a way to make mealtime more engaging! The first 60 dog adopters this weekend will go home with a free puzzle feeder bowl.

We’re pulling out all the stops to make this adoption event one to remember. Our everyday offers still stand – adoptions are FREE and every pet leaves here spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and with a custom ID tag. 🎉🐾

Happy Tails Tuesday! 🐾 Meet Obi, the polka-dotted cutie who once shuffled in and out of DFW shelters, longing for his forever home. But fate smiled upon him when a compassionate lady discovered his photo online and brought him home from Dallas Animal Services. Now, as Obi, he's living his best life showered with love from his adoring mom and dad. We're absolutely thrilled for this happy ending and grateful to amazing adopters like Obi's family! Thank you for giving him the loving home he truly deserves! 💕

Tuesday Tip! 📝

We’ve shared this multiple times, but still need help getting the word out!

When you’re in public with your dog, you must always keep them on a leash and under your control.

DAS recommends standard 6-foot leashes; a 6-foot leash attached to a properly fitted collar or harness helps you control your dog and is better at reducing pulling.

Retractable leashes are not safe; they allow your pet to go too far from you, which puts them at risk of being hurt by a car, wild animals, or loose dogs.

Many of these tiny babies come in orphaned and in need of around the clock care from their specialized kitten nursery. Newborns need to be fed every 2 hours, and if they are without a mom, that means staff, volunteers, and fosters are giving them everything they need, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.🍼

Tod and Ozzy were just two of the thousands of neonatal kittens the nursery saw last year— and thanks to kind supporters like YOU and lifesaving donated items such as specialized formula and feeding syringes, they grew up healthy and strong in their foster home and went on to an adopter! 🐱😻

Hey all! I’m July (A1201321) aka Marvin, from - and I’m the best foster dog anyones ever seen.

I am 2 years old, 45 pounds, I love to relax and nap, and I’m so loving. I love to cuddle and watch tv.

I’m great with other dogs and would love a home with a buddy I can be best friends with.

I am doing great with potty training, I have very few accidents. I feel safe in my crate but I’m ready to be in a home where I can hangout on a dog bed with my new friends. I enjoy walks, sitting on the porch, and watching the world breeze by.

I love kids and to play outside. I love people and love to hangout with my favorite humans.

Dior Louie (A1219594) is a one year old, dog-friendly, adoptable little boy from @dallasanimalservices ☺️ We say little, because this sweet boy is a petite 44 pounds! He has a calm, easy-going personality, and just wants to give snuggles and hang out with his friends! Dior Louie has been to doggy playgroup at the shelter where he was rated dog friendly, social and playful; and he is co-housed in a kennel with another pup. After hanging out with him at the shelter for a volunteer shift, several of us took this cutie out for a doggie daycation! We went to @communitybeerco, which is great for Texas summers since they have dog-friendly, indoor seating! Dior Louie had himself a burger (or two 😉) and made lots of friends! He is so affectionate and loves to give kisses. He got so much attention and loved everyone he met. After his fun outing, Dior went back to DAS where he awaits his forever family! Adoptable, adorable and pretty much PAWFECT boy Carter (#A1193581) from @dallasanimalservices ✨🐶 Carter is about one year old, 53 pounds, kid-friendly, dog-friendly, affectionate and sweet boy! He’s a charming, playful lovebug who enjoys going for runs and walkies, but also doesn’t mind relaxing in my kennel. This is what his foster family shared about him:: Carter a big cuddle bug, and loves to sit on laps and get (and give) all the smooches. 🥰 He is great with kids and other dogs. Meet Love Bug (#A1198188) from @dallasanimalservices 🐞 This boy is a cuddle bug extraordinaire and a couch potato, who is super low maintenance and just wants to be loved! Love Bug’s foster family is traveling, and this cutie needs a forever family, or February foster, by Wednesday, January 31st! Love Bug is about a year old and 47 pounds. He is dog-friendly, but would also do fine as an only dog! He love to wrestle and play tug of war with toys. (Speaking of toys, Love Bug is OBSESSED with them. It’s the cutest thing.) 🐶🧸 Love Bug is potty trained and crate trained - where he sleeps quietly each night after walking before bedtime! his foster mom said, “Essentially, LB is a pretty easy foster! He is amenable to most environments, is great with all people (including kids); loves dog pals, but could happily be an only dog and get ALL the love and pets and snuggles; and is a generally very mellow dude who would be happy as can be just to sit on the couch and cuddle all day.” Sounds pretty pawfect to me 🥹 so, what else do you need to know!? Friends of Dallas Animal Services (DAS) is a 501c3 nonprofit partner of DAS, the country’s third largest open intake shelter. It is comprised of a group of devoted individuals who, first and foremost, believe that all animals deserve the highest quality of life. We understand the importance of credible partnerships and are determined to leverage those relationships in a way that elevates the work of DAS.

The vision of Friends of DAS is a more compassionate Dallas, where citizens value companion pets and DAS not only provides exceptional care for shelter animals, but it also the largest open intake shelter in the country with a 90% save rate.
