This past Friday, we completed another spaying surgery for a female doggy in our current neighborhood! The story that goes along with this one really touched my heart. ❤️
Although spaying one dog may not seem like a big feat, there is a lot that goes into it. We have to visit the dogs for a few weeks to give them food before they will get close enough for us to touch them. And even then, most are still too scared of people for us to hold them and get them into a crate. The vets who assists us can use a sedative, but in some cases the injection of the sedative can spook the dog and they run. That was the case with this poor, scared pup.
There were four of us running and searching desperately around the neighborhood, trying to help this dog into a crate but unable to even get close. After about an hour of this. we were getting really worried about the dog's safety after being injected, and worried that we had scared her too much to ever get the chance to catch her again.
Then, a resident of the neighborhood asked us what we were doing. We explained, and she replied "Oh, that dog? I can pick that dog up." She promptly got on her motorbike, drove down the street a bit to where the dog was hiding, got down and gave her a big hug. The dog gently leaned into her and rested there. With her help and coaxing, we were able to get her safety into a crate and to the vets to be spayed.
We learned later that this dog had slept outside this woman's house since she was a puppy, and she often stopped to give her some love and affection. What a great example of how powerful the bond between dog and human can be. Have a great week everybody 🐾
