Equine enthusiasts aiming to learn as much as we can from others and from our own experiences We are a family of equine enthusiasts.

Naomi trains and breeds a small team of thoroughbred racehorses with Sophie Hargreaves (Horse and Rider Physio) at Riccarton Park. Alice shares the love of horses and has a small team of ponies, focussing on dressage and showing but loves to show jump, show hunter and generally going on fun adventures with her beloved ponies.

The baby of the team, Bo (inside), working with his full sister, Santissima, this morning. He’s slowly finding his forward gear - just as well we are never in a hurry with our horses and give them time. Sophie and I really like him and we are excited for his future 👶🦄

It’s been an exciting morning for us with Bo having his first day at Riccarton. He is a 3 yr old full brother to Santissima. He’s so far spent his life eating, babysitting other breakers and having a few preps with Creekwood Equine and Kimberley Hodgson who have done a great job getting him to this point. We are super excited about him, but won’t be expecting him to be doing much for quite some time 😍

We have another War Decree baby to introduce. Frankie is out of Queen Sweep and had a tough first 7 weeks of life in confinement but both mum and baby are much happier out in the big paddock now. She already shows her mum’s toughness but has a super sensitive side too. The plus side to having her locked up for so long is she’s great to handle and gives the best cuddles.

Merry Christmas from us all. A trip to Ashburton on Wednesday rounded the year off for us with Brancaster Bomber running a gutsy 3rd, leading most of the way again and Santissima relishing pregnant life and not really firing like she normally does. We are super excited to have her in foal to War Decree - that foal will make our 3rd one from this sire. Everyone is enjoying a Christmas break now.

Frankie loved her first treatment with Lillian Bonner today and Flo clearly enjoyed it too. I’ve never seen this mirroring before but I find it fascinating. Both Flo and Frankie were giving big releases.

Always thankful to have Dean from Arcoda Lodge to help me educate the young ones (and older ones at times) to establish good handling from a young age. It was Feisty Frankie’s turn today.

Flo & Frankie are home (named after my favourite shop!). This baby loves to gallop around the stable so hoping that’ll be the same for the race track in years to come 🐎

The New Zealand Agricultural Show was one to remember this year with Arapito Kōwhai coming home with Champion Saddle Hunter Pony, Champion Paced & Mannered and Supreme Paced & Mannered Pony. He was his usual fabulous self 😍
Hollybank Chipmunk also made us super proud in the welsh classes on Wednesday after being back in work for 4 weeks.

So excited to meet our new War Decree filly this morning. Flo (Queen Sweep) is the proudest mum and was happy to share her with us.
The War Decrees are on fire and I loved training Flo so I really can’t wait for the fun years ahead with this little cutie. Now to choose a name…

Big day today and super happy with a 3rd for PK and 5th for Bambi on a hard and fast Riccarton track. Happy with the horses as we head towards Cup Week. Today was particularly special with it being Alice’s first race day with her stable hand licence so she can now help us out the back in the stabling area.

Brancaster Lunar Eclipse is developing into a stunner, well she was born a stunner in our eyes. Still don’t know what colour she is - red dunn but with bay mane/tail/legs 🤷‍♀️ She’s moving pretty fancy too 💃

We haven’t had both the horses go well on the same day before but they pulled it out of the bag for us today. Brancaster Bomber had the widest draw and heaviest weight and got himself to the front ready for Santissima to slot neatly in behind - smart with the headwind!
They had a huge battle down the straight with Brancaster Bomber just holding on for 2nd and Santissima refusing to let her boyfriend out of her sight so ran huge for a very close 3rd.

Queen Sweep (Flo) is a special mare to me. She would warn me she was in race-winning form when her dapples shone like this. She’s a few weeks off from having her first foal and I’m hoping she is in winning mum form with these dapples coming out again. She’s in foal to in-form sire, War Decree. She didn’t adapt well to retirement and I haven’t seen the dapples for a couple of years 🦄🤞🏻🥰

Brancaster Lunar Eclipse had a refresher handling session with Dean Boyd from Arcoda Equine Services (Arcoda Lodge) today so will be a sleepy baby for the rest of the day. Brancaster Bomber (PK) also enjoyed a body work session from Dean who keeps him feeling great.

Brancaster Bomber and Santissima are both racing in the 65 1400m at Riccarton on Saturday. Hoping for the quinella! 🤣

We are super happy with Brancaster Bomber today with his bold first up run in a 1200m at Riccarton. He carried the top weight and to be 5th, only one length behind the winner on a hard track in very good company surpassed our expectations. Thanks Tina for a great ride too.

Alice was lucky to be able to ride the lovely Hollybank Justin Time today at the SEC Green Horse Show. She has been working with him for a while now and looks forward to her rides each week on Joey. Another beautiful Hollybank pony 🦄

It’s been a busy few weeks for PK and Bambi (Brancaster Bomber and Santissima). Bambi loved the Timaru track and ran a close 4th. PK has told us he wants a winter break and I’m very happy to oblige as I do too!

It was Arapito Attraction’s (Nellie) first ridden show today. Proud is an understatement. Champion Novice and Reserve Champion Open saddle hunter. She was exhausted at the end so we had to miss a few classes to save her for the Supreme.
