Welcome to Building Resilience Nala. This giant bundle of fun is starting to learn some self restraint around greeting people, as well as a few other impulse control behaviours. Covered in slobber now, but it was well worth it 🥰

I absolutely love getting updates from caregivers about how well their pets are doing after help from Building Resilience.

One today really struck a chord with me, especially when they said they were "Proud" of what they have achieved. I just give you the tools, but its you the caregivers, that put in the hard work.

Things might take time, and they might not always be easy, but if you work at it you will get amazing results. Whilst making the most amazing bond and relationship with your canine and feline tennents.

Please share your updates in the comments below.

Welcome to Building Resilience Gus (featuring his wing man Toby who learned that this guest was laced with treats). This handsome lad has just started some sessions to work on his reactivity outside of the home, and reduce his impulsiveness.

Teaching a settle to a dog can be really benefical. It's a skill that can be transferred into the real world so that after a nice walk in the cold, all of you can enjoy a nice cosy pub lunch.

Here is one of my dogs Kira demonstrating how she used her settle training in the outside world.

This is very sad. If you have been following this page for the last year or so, you will know that this is a charity I work closely with. I am lucky enough to know the volunteers personally and know just how much work they put in. Its a shame that a few people have spoiled things. If anybody can make any donation to the charity or know of any animal charity grants they can apply for then please let them know.

Home Neutering Animals In Merseyside (NAIM) was set up in 2010. We are a small volunteer run, non-profit organisation. We aim to target the root of the problem of so many unwanted animals in Merseyside. We offer reduced cost, affordable neutering for dogs, cats, rabbits, ferrets and guinea pigs. His...

Pet Dental Awareness Month

Pet Dental Awareness Month

🐾 Did you know? Over 80% of dogs and cats show signs of dental disease by the age of three! 🦷

It starts with plaque forming on their teeth, which hardens into tartar. Over time, this can lead to gingivitis—causing red, inflamed gums and discomfort. 😿🐶

🪥 Good news! Regular at-home dental care, like brushing and dental chews, can help prevent these issues before they become serious.

🐾 Keep an eye out for bad breath, red gums, or difficulty eating—these could be signs your pet needs a dental check-up!

📅 Book a vet appointment if you're unsure—prevention is key to a happy, healthy pet!

📩 Got a question about your pet’s dental health? Drop us an email at [email protected] – we’re here to help!

In my day job as a veterinary nurse I take my patient's emotional wellbeing serious. Not just dogs, cats and all other small animals too. But there are only so many courses I can complete .... or are there?!

This! Sadly they have become very popular in recent years.

This! Sadly they have become very popular in recent years.

Emotional shutdown can look like calmness if you can't read the dog.

Actually it's a survival state and creates multiple problems for the dog's health and welfare.

So true. I have come across many animals and caregivers, all with their own unique roads to travel. Some much harsher and bumpier than others

Every consultation and every chat is different, beautiful and unique.

**DAY 2** Hazards of Christmas ⚠️

🍫 CHOCOLATE contains a stimulant called theobromine (a bit like caffeine) that is poisonous to dogs. The amount of theobromide differs in the different types of chocolate (dark chocolate has the most in it). Theobromide mainly affects the heart, central nervous system and kidneys. Symptoms will occur from 4-24 hours after your dog has eaten chocolate and will vary depending on the amount of chocolate (theobromine) your dog has eaten.

If your dog has eaten chocolate, you may see:
*Vomiting (may include blood)
*Diarrhoea
*Restlessness and hyperactivity
*Rapid breathing
*Muscle tension, incoordination
*Increased heart rate
*Seizures

Please contact us if your dog eats any chocolate or if you see any signs as soon as you can

**Day 1** Hazards of Christmas ⚠️

Christmas can be a busy and chaotic time with large quantities of food and presents left unattended. Curious pets, particularly dogs, may investigate and eat gifts (including edible ones) left under the tree, food in the kitchen or chew on plants decorating the house

Each day we will go into more detail for each item
Please call your local branch if you are concerned your pet has ingested any of the below

⚠️ This Friday, the (Import of Dogs, Cats, and Ferrets) Bill is up for its second reading.

This crucial legislation would help end puppy smuggling, ban imports of animals with harmful mutilations (e.g. cropped ears), and reduce the risk of certain diseases entering the UK.

Help us make this happen — download our template letter and urge your MP to support the Bill.

It is easier to prevent pain than to “chase” it once it takes hold in the body (Downing et al., 2023).

Animals live “in the moment”, potentially making pain worse for them than for humans. They cannot deal intellectually with pain, think of better moments in the past, or anticipate that their pain will end in the future.
