Our special auction ends tonight at 8pm!

We just have two more precious souls, whose stories have touched the hearts of so many, and this auction is in honour of.

Ivo was a four year old Galgo who was saved by our friends Fundación Benjamín Mehnert - our founder met him on her visit and was instantly drawn to this gentle boy who looked so lost and alone, despite being surrounded by other dogs.

She found out that he had been attacked by other dogs, hence why he was in the hospital.

That was it. She reserved him there and then. And he was on the next transport over to the UK.

His arrival was very emotional as he was met by his foster dad and the founder.

Ivo was such a dear boy, a gorgeous spirit - pure joy to the heart.

Tragically, one day, everything changed. One morning his breathing had changed, he displayed worrying symptoms and was rushed to the vets.

His condition deteriorated rapidly and he was admitted to the emergency hospital. They were unable to stabilise him as he continued to plummet and there was no alternative but to let him pass peacefully, in the arms of his foster dad.

It was extremely traumatic for his foster family, and so utterly devastating. It seemed so cruel, so unfair - the day before was one of the best of his life. Running, playing.. so happy.

We are incredibly thankful that he had that time with his loving foster family, that he passed on - cherished, wrapped in love and the beautiful memories he made here.

Ivo, you will never ever be forgotten. You are so sorely missed.

Tonight we share another of the precious souls we are holding our Special Auction in memory of...

Rafa -

Rafa was a beautiful boy who arrived with our wonderful friends Galgos en Familia with a grandma Galga Maripepa.

We are very happy to tell you Maripepa found an amazing home and is thoroughly loved now.

But Rafa arrived in a colossal state of neglect. Physically he had so much wrong.

Immensely tragic for a young boy. He looked old, older than Maripepa perhaps.

He went into a very special foster home in Spain with round the clock veterinary care, incidentally with dear Rosco who we are still trying to find a home for.

But despite having fought like a true warrior, despite his immense desire to live, despite having tried EVERYTHING to save him... It couldn't be.

He had finally got the chance to start living.

But let us remember the words of Galgos en Familia and let them ring out for Galgos and Podencos everywhere who despite all, sadly pass way too soon.

"We are not going to say that you've lost the battle - you haven't lost, you won! You won by surviving years of abuse! You won when your wretched owner left you lying agonizing in the middle of nowhere to die, and you couldn't run from being so sick that you were and you didn't let yourself be defeated by death!

You won, fighting with all your strength, until you have the opportunity to know love, affection and respect! And you won when thanks to your strength and your courage, you did not leave this world alone, agonizing, with pain, with hunger, with cold and with fear. No!

Rafa you have been surrounded by love, full of kisses, listening to words of comfort from Tita Rosa and Tita Gill and of course feeling the caresses of those hands that have loved you so much and cared for you! The hands of that foster family to which we will never be able to thank all they have done for you and Rosco, for so much effort, so much dedication, so much care and above all for so much love!

Rafa, as I was telling you, you haven't lost any battle, you've been a Champion, a fighter, who has earned the well-deserved rest of the warrior!

Go easy, there where there is no pain, nor suffering, there where you will finally find the Peace you so deserve.

They say that the one who embraces the soul never leaves and for many, you will be eternal Rafa!"

We are so thankful Rafa did find love, even a day of that is worth it after what he had endured. He passed with love and dignity.

Tonight, we tell you a bit about the extraordinary human being we, along with four dogs, are holding our Special Auction in memory of.

Consuelo Rivera-Fuentes

"Silence is resistance," Consuelo often said. She talked about using silence to counteract the terrors and torture of the dictatorship - while also acknowledging that, in the end, many people cannot keep silent.

She wrote about the screams and cries of a body under torture, including her own. How can the body remain silent, she asked? And perhaps it never can: she later mused whether the cancer was her body's silent scream against her past.

We often talk of a voice for the voiceless and this is something Consuelo Rivera-Fuentes understood all too well.

Rivera-Fuentes was a Chilean-born poet, feminist and political activist, who came to England with her young son to start a new life, having survived violence and torture during the Pinochet regime, and taught Spanish and Women’s studies at Lancaster University.

This remarkable woman - a partner, friend, mother, compañera, writer, poet, singer, publisher was a fighter for human and animal rights. She had many rescues, a real love for sighthounds. Her life partner adopted her first Galga this year, who Consuelo would have loved dearly.

Consuelo was an unforgettable - and indefatigable - woman. A survivor.

In case you didn't know we are holding a very special auction to raise as much money as possible for our phenomenal associations in Spain.

The auction is also being held in memory of four precious dogs and a lovely human being.

Galgos en Familia are one of the associations and in fact they were our very first partner which makes our collaboration super special.

They are an incredible Team and we ask you all to follow them and invite everyone you know to do the same!

We want to tell you about two dogs who tragically did not make it to their forever homes due to the severe neglect and cruelty they suffered before Galgos en Familia were able to rescue them.

Their names were Levi and Rafa.

We begin tonight with Levi.

He arrived in a terrible state -
Rriddled with cancer from top to toe. The test result showed a very aggressive cancer. His airways were constricted he was struggling to breathe and in pain. 😞

There was nothing to be done and the Team had to make an awful decision which was to let him pass.

They call it the last kindness but it always feels so heartbreaking.

Levi thankfully found his way to sanctuary after a long time of never being loved. Just used, abused and thrown away.

They said
"He was the sweetest most affectionate boy, not fearful. Loved kisses and cuddles. He went peacefully in my arms. ❤️"

Sometimes that is the only option. To be there with them, hold them, and give them every bit of love possible to their last breath.

Though he wasnt with them for long, we are so grateful he finally found love and was given a peaceful journey onwards.

During the auction we will be telling you about each of the four dogs so you know just how special this auction is and how thankful we are to all those who devote their hearts and days to so many.

We will also tell you about Conseulo Rivera-Fuentes who had a fierce passion for life and a strong sense of justice.

This auction features some phenomenal donations from some very wonderful human beings.
