Oops! Forgot to post this last week! Creed was dog of the week for Bullsbrooks class! He has come leaps and bounds over the last few classes and I'm SO PROUD of his humans! Well done guys!

This kid looks pretty pleased with herself for getting dog of the week for the kids program!!! Tanyka has done an absolutely fabulous job with miss Ruby!! I'm so proud of how well she's doing!!! Well done!!! Keep it up! 🤙

To say I'm insanely proud of this kid is an understatement! Today she received her citizenship award along with her education and scholarship award! She was also mentioned as a junior trainer for Prestige K9 which I absolutely 100% support!! Sorry adults, but she handles her rottweiler better than most of you 😅 that's 4 years of training and dedication! I'm so proud of you Poppy!!! These awards are absolutely deserved!! Shelley Walter and Nic you have done such a fabulous job raising her!

Wednesdays group class in Bullsbrook was HOT. We spent the class doing minimal movement exercises and had a sprinkler set up to keep everyone cool! So proud of the dedication from the humans even in the heat we've been experiencing!!!

Well, Milo got dog of the week last night for nailing fastest sits TWO WEEKS in a row!!! Well done John! But also a huge shout out for all those that came out in the heat! The puppers did amazingly and I'm very sure the sprinklers helped! Loving the dedication guys!!!

If you have a moment, please have a read of this awesome post from an awesome trainer whom I very much admire. Yes she's Perth based! Yes, she's now internationally known. Her work is phenomenal and her clear communication is next to nothing. Brilliant woman and a brilliant trainer!

There are some great Force Free trainers out there, but they aren’t usually the ones posting things like this.

This is a snippet of a post suggesting any trainer who uses any kind of aversive method is suffering ‘The Dunning Kruger Effect’ (a cognitive bias where someone overestimates their knowledge/competence in a topic or skill).

The irony here is the extreme side of Force Free training loves using terms like ‘science/evidence based training’. But these are marketing terms with no merit.

When it comes to addressing ‘behavior issues’, especially with regards to serious aggression or predatory behavior, there is no (and I’ll repeat that in shouty capitals)..
THERE IS NO evidence in the literature for any positive reinforcement method that effectively reduces/stops specific, serious behavior issues more effectively than any other method.

In fact, there’s actually MORE evidence on the balanced side of training.

This isn’t to suggest that positive reinforcement methods alone ‘can’t’ be effective in some cases. But the main point here is the ‘evidence based trainer’ claim is BS.

If you want to argue for positive reinforcement being more evidence based in teaching ‘NEW behaviours’ like puppy training or general level one obedience training etc.. then yes, it could be argued it’s evidence based. But any GOOD trainer knows that, regardless of ideological base.

But, again, not when it comes to advanced training or behavior issues.
And this means - while it’s great training has become more positive reinforcement based, in recent years it’s started to go too far. Suggesting it’s ALL you ever need and science ‘proves’ it. No, it absolutely does not.

If you disagree with the above, then I’ll put the same question to you as I did the trainer in the attached post..

‘Can you recommend an ‘evidence-based’ positive reinforcement method that effectively stops predatory behaviour or serious aggression’…

A wee glimpse of Wednesdays group class! There were a number of dogs that arrived on fire and within 10-15mins had calmed right down! I'm so proud of everyone who attended!!!

I couldn't be prouder of young Cal with how well he handled his German shepherd, Kanan last night at the kids course! Cal is showing heaps of potential with his training abilities with heaps of enthusiasm! Well done for getting dog of the week Cal!! Keep it up 💪

Henry was dog of the week for the young people class! Luke has done a few classes with me in Bindoon but hasn't been for a while, he absolutely nailed it last night! He handled Henry the very best I've seen from him! Well done Luke! Keep it up 💪

Today was a sad day as I said see you later to the absolutely amazing Ava and her owners. Ava is one of the most wonderful dogs I've had the pleasure of meeting. She is dog reactive and can be funny with new humans as well. Her owners Jo and Matt have put in copious amounts of training to reign in her feistyness and last week we managed to introduce a new male dog, a greyhound, named Harry into their family. Off to Albany they go but I'll be seeing them again soon! Jo, Matt, I'm so so very proud with how far you have come with her!!! Good luck in Albany!

I am super excited to announce that I'll be holding a school holiday program for kids between 11-17 years old! The first class kicks off on the 7th January at 6:30-7:30pm. If you're interested in having your kids learn how to handle and train their dogs properly this 4 week course is for them! There will be a very strict cap on numbers so I can make sure all are getting the help they need. Below features Poppy with Sarge, Lizzie with Heidi and Daniel with Shadow! These guys have been training with me for at least 18 months (Poppy has been training her rottweiler Sarge for almost 4 years with me). Send through a PM if this is something your kids will enjoy!
