Yesterday was a sad day for the EmbersC***s family, as you all know all of our cats are loved and very much a part of our family. Breeding is hard, it can be ugly and we cannot stress enough about how important genetic testing is.
When we were first getting started we bought a breeding pair from a breeder we found on the TICA website that we trusted was doing the right thing, unfortunately we were naive to think that. We lost our girl Freya at 8 months old and we found out our boy Phoenix tested positive for HCM. HCM stands for "Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy," which is a heart condition where the muscular walls of a cat's heart thicken, leading to decreased heart efficiency and potentially causing serious health complications. Phoenix was neutered immediately and never bred. He lived his best life lounging around for almost five years before this terrible disease won.
This has fueled our mission to bred genetically and medically sound cats. It is not fair to have apart of your family ripped away far too soon from a disease that could have been prevented from responsible breeding.
We are licensed veterinary technicians that take the health and wellbeing of our cats and kittens to the next level to try to alleviate any other families from going through the heartbreak that we have endured.
So regardless if you get a kitten from us or another breeder please do your research and make sure that genetic testing and routine medical exams are being completed to help minimize the chances a tragic loss to your family ❤️
