Friends, we don't ask for much except the following: Be on time, (not early!) read your paperwork, close the gate behind you properly, don't show up unannounced demanding to see the vet, be courteous to the staff.
During any given week we will have several people showing up for pick-up or drop-off at random times, whenever they please, instead of at the agreed upon time. WE DO NOT HAVE A RECEPTIONIST. So when you just randomly show up and bang on all the doors you can find, someone has to step away from surgery to attend to you. Maybe you have to wait a couple of minutes, we will come check. A full time receptionist would take out 30-45K out of our budget. Do you know how many animals we can fix for that??? So, please be respectful. Show up when we ask you to.

09/02/2024

Edit: The event is full. For any inquiries please message us, we don't monitor all the comments. Current wait list for female dogs is several months.

Hi friends, we have a few spots available for reduced cost surgeries for next week. Cats will be on Tuesday, dogs Wednesday and Thursday. Co-pay is as follows: Male dogs 150$, Female cats 100$, Male cats 50$. Message us if you want a spot, my wait list is too long to ask everyone.
As usual, if you have regular income, please consider leaving these spots for those less fortunate. If you cannot afford the co-pay, please sit tight, we are working on more funding.

Edit3 It's's over now. Thanks everyone and THANK YOU to the Boehringer Ingelheim Cares Foundation who, joining forces with Greater Good Charities, generously provided nearly 2 million doses of NexGard® PLUS to support lifesaving animal efforts across the country.

Edit2: Thursday the 1st of February in the Baseball field parking lot in Doniphan. Bring your paperwork, don't bring your dog. We will be there starting 9:00 AM

Edit:
1)We will perform the distribution this coming week somewhere in Doniphan. LARGE DOGS ONLY 66+ pounds.
2) We are looking for a large parking lot where we can park and distribute.
3) We are looking for a few volunteers who will help distribute and check paperwork and hand out meds.
4) Do not bring your dog to the distribution. Bring a filled-out copy of the liability waiver for EACH dog that you want medication for. OK to pick up for others. Please help friends and neighbors with filling out paperwork.

Hello Friends,
we have received a generous donation of Nexgard Plus, a medicine for dogs that targets fleas, ticks, heart worms and intestinal worms. We have the size for 66lbs-132 dogs only at this time. This chew is given once a month by mouth. Dogs have to be older than 8 weeks. We will be handing this out for free. You will receive up to 4 doses for each eligible dog, no more, so this will be 4 months of protection. Dr. Thompson will oversee the distribution and reserves the right to distribute/refuse distribution at her discretion. We don't make an income limitation at this time, but we might if we see that we run out of doses fast.

1) We will announce a meeting day and location (somewhere with a big parking lot) sometime to take place in the last week of January.
2) You will have to sign a liability waiver stating that you accept the medicine at your own risk, as we are not able to provide a physical exam or heart worm test with it. The medicine is not recommended for dogs with a history of seizures. Please research using the link below.
3) We don't have anything for small dogs, for cats or for puppies. We will not offer vaccines or anything else.
4) You can comment here with how many dogs you have so we can start counting doses.

Special Adoption Announcement

Are you someone who is feeling a little bit lonely and anxious? Maybe your companion has passed away and it just wasn't the right time to look for another dog yet? Could you use a friend who loves you unconditionally?

If that's you, you have to meet Abbie!

Abbie is an old soul in a young body. She is a beautiful English Bulldog mix, with a very calm temperament. Abbie has so much love to give, when I hug her, it heals my soul a little bit and it calms my heart. I know she will do this for you too.

Abbie will be fully vaccinated and spayed and can be adopted through Hearts for Rescue. HTTPS://heartsforrescue.rescuegrouos.org

Hi Doniphan Friends!

It's cold outside and we are trying to help the stray cat populations in and around town. We are currently raising money for fixing the Forge colony and the Vitronics colony. The Casey's colony should follow soon. We need to raise 1500$ to spay 15 cats.

Of course we understand that $$ are short around Christmas but if you can chip in at all, it would go directly towards spaying and neutering these cats.
If you can't donate $$, perhaps you have traps, cages, shelters or food? Or maybe you can encourage businesses you frequent or people you know, to donate.

Thank you all so much and Merry Christmas.
Please share!

Hello Friends!
We are closely working with Pound Pals and they are absolutely amazing. If you can help at all, please donate through their page. To those of you who already have, a heartfelt thank you! We have fixed hundreds of dogs and cats already but we have several requests from folks needing help with stray cats in Doniphan this winter. If you can't contribute $$, perhaps you can loan a trap, help transport? Thank you, thank you, thank you.

IN A YEAR OF BAD NEWS, A RAY OF HOPE!

This Giving Tuesday, help a hopeful new initiative to succeed!

Years ago, we received a frantic plea from a woman in a town far down Highway 21 in the Missouri Ozarks. She’d found a severely injured cat and didn’t have any money for a vet. A local child had been beating cats with a baseball bat. Sadly, Maverick was beyond help and we paid the veterinarian to euthanize him. Thus began a relationship between Pound Pals and the town of Doniphan. We learned that dogfighting rings flourish and stray cats are everywhere. While some people abuse the cats, others agonize over the suffering they see. Our friend took in too many to her small home. People knew she took in cats, so they brought others. Once a child took her a sick kitten she’d been carrying around in her backpack. Our friend got rides to Poplar Bluff, over 30 minutes away, to get cats spayed or neutered, and your donations paid the vets. While we have lower-cost options in St. Louis, the plight of rural cats haunted us. Rural vets rarely have the option of subsidizing care and are often overworked. If there are local rescues, they are overwhelmed. We helped out when we could.

But always the requests from Doniphan continued, even as our treasurer reminded us that “We can’t afford to fix every cat in Doniphan!”

But this year, a miracle appeared: the Doniphan Community Spay and Neuter Effort. This vet is not low-cost for us, but she has low overhead, and her prices are reasonable. What’s more, she can work on up to twenty cats in one day. People with colonies previously had to bring no more than three cats to Poplar Bluff on one visit. In the meantime, others were getting pregnant. This year, we’ve sponsored two cat days in Doniphan, with more on the schedule. One was for a single colony. For the other, our previously mentioned helper got 19 cats together, strays and owned cats, and now they are all fixed.

We are on fire with this initiative but sponsoring a cat day for 15-20 cats costs us between $1500 and $2000. Through October, our total for this year of spays and neuters is 367. That’s 327 cats and 40 dogs who will no longer reproduce. We want to make it 500 spays and neuters by the end of the year, and with your help and the Doniphan project, it’s looking possible. We don't want to stop until Doniphan is no longer notorious in the rescue community. Won't you help us this Giving Tuesday?

Spay appointment for a female dog available for this afternoon. We had some no-shows. Message us if you're interested.

20/09/2023

Hi all, our website here on Facebook was down this morning, we are still trying to figure out why. We understand that this might make people nervous, but if you chose to spread misinformation about us or disparage us anywhere, we will ban you. Have a nice day.

21/08/2023

Let's talk about 'free' or 'low-cost' spays and neuters. As most of us adults know, nothing in life is really free. Someone pays for it. If you got your dog or cat neutered or spayed anywhere and didn't pay much or anything, it means someone else picked up the tab. An average dog spay can cost 300$ and more in expenses alone! That means the doctor hasn't even earned any money, what they got is what they spent. Think about that a bit. What's causing the costs? Materials play a huge part. It starts with equipment: surgical tables, anesthesia machines, monitoring machines, surgical lights, autoclaves. That all has to be paid for. Then consumables: medication, catheters, sterile drapes, gloves, gowns, sutures. The list goes on. The rent has to be paid, professional and license fees, insurance and overhead. Many vets also have tons of student loans.

We are able to offer our services because Dr. Thompson knows a donor from the outside, who donates money for her to spay dogs in Ripley county and area. She cannot use this money for cats or male dogs against the donors wishes. She cannot squeeze your cat in on a dog day, because it throws off efficiency and would terrify the cat.

If we want to organize cat days and male dog neuter days we have to come together. Follow-up post coming shortly on how to do that.

We had a good laugh watching the ridiculous tantrum someone over in the local group had. To clarify for our amazing clients:
1) Yes of course we're veterinarians and fully licensed.
2) We rely on outside funding so if we can't schedule your pet when you like to, we're sorry and we're working on it. We have ongoing funding for female dogs but for males and cats it's on and off.
3) Anyone who can raise funds for a full day clinic and is willing to, get in touch
4) Carry on! Except DB. You're banned. 😆

17/08/2023

Gentle reminder, 1) we don't have a phone service, advertisement or a huge parking lot because we are a low-cost clinic. Saving expenses on unnecessary items allows us to spend it where it matters: on safely spaying and neutering animals in the community.
2) Yes we offer the service for free, but people who have a regular vet should take their pet to them and don't take spots away from individuals in need. We want to focus on reducing the overpopulation by spaying strays, fosters and roaming dogs and those owned by low income folks. Thank you.

09/08/2023

Does anyone have a storage rack or standing shelf they want to donate or sell cheaply? We're falling over our supplies in the office and pharmacy and need to get organized better! Thanks!

Does this dog look familiar to you? She was roaming the parking lot at tractor supply and was picked up by a friend for safe keeping. We have reasons to believe she may have come through our clinic but she is not popping up in our system search. About 12 pounds.

Hi all,
I had hoped not to have to say this out loud but it seems inevitable:
Here are the top 3 ways of (expletive) angering this doctor and be put on the ban list.

1) Leave the gate open
2) Be rude to the staff, lie to or about them
3) Show up unannounced and demand to talk to the vet

Please don't do these things. Thanks! Dr.Joanna

P.s Those bringing multiple kittens can put them in one crate and fill out one set of paperwork as long as the cage is labeled with number of kittens and owner name, paperwork needs to also list the number of kittens and presumed genders.

Reminder for the kitten day Saturday 10/22/2022: Cats under 6months only, non-ferral (must be able to handle), females at least 2 lbs, boys must have both testicles dropped. This event is not free, it is low-cost: Boys 10$, girls 40$. Kittens must be brought to our facility Saturday morning at 7am. Kittens must be in secure crates with name of owner and name (or list if multiple) of cat clearly marked on the cage. Ideally, print out the consent paperwork (sign on 2nd page) and tape to the cage also. This way we won't waste time in the morning. Further instructions and directions on how to find us are on the paperwork which we are trying to upload soon. Comment on this post with a number of kittens so we roughly know what to expect. Thanks!

Everyone: We understand the need to have your adult cats spayed. We really do! Let me explain why we're doing things the we way we do:
Synergy! By grouping animals by species and age we can get a lot more done. So if you bring an adult cat on kitten day we will say no. If the tom kitten doesn't have his testicles dropped, we won't do him.
We are working on funding and dates for adult cat days and we will post it here ❤️
