We MUST do better! 💔💔😔😔

Tulsa Animal Services just released their weekly report card for Nov. 10–16, and the numbers show both progress and the ongoing challenges the shelter is facing.

110 animals came through the doors last week: 85 dogs and 25 cats. Most were strays, which is a reminder that loose, unaltered pets in the community are still a major issue.

There were bright spots too: 89 animals were adopted, and 21 were transferred to partner rescues, giving them a better chance at finding homes. 12 dogs were reunited with their owners, which is always a win.

But the shelter is still operating far past its intended capacity, 214 dogs in a space built for 176, putting dog kennels at 122% capacity.

This week, 8 dogs and 1 cat were euthanized. Euthanasia never comes down to just a number. It can be due to medical suffering, unsafe behavioral decline, or owner-requested cases. For Cloe, Stone, and Enzo, those were the circumstances this week. We still honor their existence. We say their names. And we wish things could have been different for them.

What brings a small amount of comfort is knowing that the shelter staff and volunteers showed them love and compassion at the end. They weren’t alone.

There are still so many animals inside the shelter today who need support, visibility, and homes. Let’s keep showing up for the ones still waiting, and for the ones we lost this week. ❤️❤️

💔 Tulsa Animal Services Weekly Report 💔

This week’s Tulsa Animal Services statistics are a reminder of both the progress and the heartbreak that come with shelter work.

We’re honoring four dogs who were humanely euthanized — one for medical reasons and three for behavioral. These decisions are never made lightly.

Sometimes, dogs aren’t placed on the “at-risk” list because their needs or circumstances make public placement unsafe or unkind.

Behind every number is a life that mattered — and a team that tried.

✨ If you see a stray dog, call it in or take it to the shelter. Letting unaltered, roaming dogs wander only fuels the crisis.
✨ Talk to your friends, family, and neighbors. Share why spay & neuter is necessary, not optional.
✨ There is no such thing as an “accidental litter.” That’s irresponsible pet ownership, and the fallout lands on our shelters.
✨ Pets are not disposable. Having a dog is a privilege and the mindset around animals in Oklahoma must shift if we want these statistics to change.

The shelter is fighting. Volunteers are fighting. Rescues are fighting. But we cannot adopt, foster, rescue or photograph our way out of the choices people make at home.

That’s always something to celebrate. ❤️ But it’s also an important reminder that part of caring for animals means making tough, humane decisions when we have dogs who are too sick or unsafe to be adopted. Our team works every day to give each animal the best possible chance, while ensuring the safety and well-being of both pets and people.
