REHOMED - Betsie is a black miniature poodle, she is 4yrs old, spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, flea and worm treated and has a clean bill of health. She will be rehomed with 5 weeks free pet insurance.
Betsie was handed over to us after her owner could no longer care for her due to ill health. She has been treated like a princess and can be a bit of a diva!
Betsie settled in well to her foster home with other dogs and cats and greeted them all nicely. As she has become more settled she has tried to be possessive over her foster mum when sitting on her lap if the other dogs come over for attention so if she is to live with other dogs in her new home owners need to be prepared to spot the signs of this happening and manage the situation accordingly so she isnt allowed to guard. Otherwise she is generally happy being around the other dogs and could live with another neutered dog if managed properly but she would be equally happy as the only dog with plenty of human company.
Betsie is a friendly loving girl most of the time and enjoys fuss and attention, she is a bit of a kisser and loves sitting on your lap. She is obedient and will do what is asked of her.
We were told she doesnt like to be groomed but we have been working with her with a brush and positive reinforcement and she has done well, she went to the groomers with us too and didnt like her legs and feet being done and did have to be muzzled for her nails to be clipped but overall did quite well. It will be important for a new owner to be confident with the grooming process and also have a good reliable groomer who will take their time getting to know and work with Betsie going forward as not all groomers will take on the not so easy grooms.
Betsie doesnt like to be disturbed when resting and did try to snap when she was startled when asleep on the fosterers bed and the covers were moved but hasnt done it since. She has also displayed some resource guarding over things she has stolen so this will need to be recognised and managed appropriately.
Betsie really does need an experienced home who have lived with a bit of a princess before and can read body language well but also be firm and consistent going forward and help give Betsie some of the boundaries she probably lacked in her former home as she has really done well since being with us. She is not suitable to be rehomed where there are resident children under 14yrs or where there are regularly visiting small children.
Betsie is housetrained and enjoys her food, she walks nicely on the lead and travels ok in the car. She was mostly ok with the vet but isnt keen on people messing around her face or bottom! She is used to having plenty of company and would be ok being left for a few hours especially with another dog for company but wouldn't cope well being left alone for long periods. She will need a nice fully enclosed garden to play in.
Betsie is being fostered in Swadlincote but can be rehomed further afield to the right home subject to homecheck and adoption donation o £250
