511 bales!!

We've seen an incredible increase in production of hay since we bought the property at the end of 2018. It had been overgrazed and underwatered before we took over.

Even after allocating .5 acres of our hay field this year toward future market garden space, our yield increased from 244 bales last year (and 232 the year before).

We can attribute the increase to numerous factors:
- not tilling (increased organic matter / soil health)
- no chemical fertilizers
- grazing for the appropriate amount of time
- watering sufficiently and early in the season
- a cooler than usual spring
- the pasture reseeding itself

Our future goal is to convert the majority of the field to perennial grazing pasture. We could then rotate sections to only cut/bale what's needed for winter use.
