Whats that I hear? A one off workshop for those who want to have a go and see what scent detection is all about!

Scent detection is a great way to build a strong working relationship and harness your dog's natural abilities. Any dog can take part in scentwork (including my bulldog!) and you will be amazed at the science behind odour detection and how your dog's nose works. In this workshop we will cover some fun exercises to get your dog's nose working and prove to you they are capable of anything!

If you get the bug for it, you can join our next set of scent detection classes to teach your dogs to search pots, bags, chairs, novel items and even vehicles!

Important Update on the news today about the XL Bully ban…

By the 31st December 2023 it will be ILLEGAL to
Breed
Sell
Advertise
Rehome
Abandon

From the 1st February 2024
It will be illegal to own an XL Bully unless it is registered on the Index of Exempted Dogs

Owners who wish to keep their dogs will have until the 31st January 2024 to register their dog for exemption

The dog must be neutered and microchipped, muzzled and on a lead at all times in a public place and not in the hands of a minor

The government has guidelines in place for what constitutes an XL Bully (although if you ask me they’re pretty vague!) so if you’re unsure take a look here

There are lots of exciting changes and plans for Education4Paws over the next few months including loose lead walking, recall and trick training workshops, puppy pre school classes, adult dog training classes, scentwork classes (including scentwork for reactive dogs that can’t cope in group environments) and much more!

I am starting to collate interest for these sessions so if this is something you’d be interested in learning more about as and when they start running then please do get in touch and I can add you to a mailing list. All classes will be held at Dunham on Trent village hall.

I’ve been caring for this handsome chap for the last few days while his pawrents were on holiday. Let’s pretend he didn’t think my phone was food and was just posing for the picture… 💙

🐾 Pippi and Ziva 🐾

I’ve been caring for these beautiful girls over the past week. Shy Pippi was easy to befriend, however, Ziva was a little less happy about me coming to administer her medication (twice a day!). With treats and pets she eventually came around but was not impressed when it was medication time. I even had a couple of visits from the cheeky neighbouring cat.

I had a wonderful time and it is well worth the unimpressed kitty faces and ‘present’ (🐭) after the kind words their amazing owner said to me. What a lovely family to work with. 💙

“Borks and walks looked after my cats while I was on holiday. Jess was calm, caring and professional and put me at ease right away. She gave one cat medication twice a day which is not an easy thing to do. My sometimes shy cats seemed to really like her and even brought presents (mice!). I would highly recommend them and would use them without hesitation in future. Thank you Borks and Walks! 11/10!! 😊”

It may have been throwing it down with rain but that doesn’t stop us! 🌧️

I had a lovely walk with Zara and Rosie. They spent around 80% of the time sniffing everything in sight. This is the secret to tiring this curious duo out.

🐾 FUN FACT: 🐾
Dogs can sniff (in and out) around 7 times per second. If we tried to do that for the same amount of time we’d hyperventilate. It is so important to let your dog sniff the environment around them, they get plenty of information and stimulation. 🐾

With the weather heating up it’s so important to know how to keep you and your dog cool. Here are a few tips from Guide Dogs UK.

🐾 I also recommend investing time into researching different toys, puzzles and games to get your dogs brain stimulated to tire them out when going for a walk isn’t always possible.

When you do take your dog out be mindful of where the sun has been during the day. Pick shadier areas and take water with you. 💙

🐾 Cookie, Pepper, Zara and Marlie 🐾

I’m sure you can imagine my surprise when I got the message that there was a new addition to the family. As always I had an amazing time with these gorgeous girlies and it was lovely to meet Marlie the cockapoo.

This family never fails to keep me on my toes… we had not one but two escape artists (a rabbit and a hen) 😱. Luckily the garden is very secure and the pets are well handled and friendly so they only needed putting back in their pens.

If you’re going away I offer pet sitting to all kinds of pets! Whether it’s just feeding or playing, I’m happy to do it all. 💙

This awesome duo have been walking with me for two weeks now and are doing great! We’ve been working on desensitisation to traffic as well as reducing pulling on the lead. They’re already making amazing progress in such a short space of time. I can’t wait to see what they’ll be like after a month or two. 💙
