Hello Friends

We realize it has been a good while that we have not updated our page . We have rescued dogs and lost a few . Life got away from us . However we want you to know the island is still running but our doors are temporarily closed until things settle . We are honest here . I and the original cofounder had to part ways for a while to tend matters of familial relations and losses . Things took a few bumps but know despite a few hick ups the dogs we've taken in as family are well. Sam , rollie and the Pyrenees are all accounted for a stubborn as ever. As are dipper , Bella and max and the collies . We operated as a family unit here for 7 years and unforseen circumstances made us put the rescue on hold as it's a two person job . We love you our followers who have supported and trusted us as a forever home to some of my our surrenders whom you once called family. We also hope to see y'all continue to to follow us as we navigate the waters of becoming functioning again once our other cofounder is back on board . We are two best friends whom love animals and it's a team effort and part of our team had to step away for personal matters . We appreciate y'all.

This is Henley. The photo to the right was before The Island pulled and vetted her. Henley is a 6 pound mini poodle mix that was pulled from a shelter last week after her bonded buddy was adopted without her. She is approximately five years old. She has been given her rabies vaccine and her DAPPv vaccine. Henley is NOT a plug-and-play dog. She's been kenneled most of her life from what we can tell and she's terrified of the world beyond her kennel. She needs a human who is willing to dedicate time to conditioning her to become accustomed to handling. She's VERY handshy. She is not aggressive but has nipped out of fear due to being handled to abruptly-- this was NOT aggression and was NOT her fault. The human involved was not injured and was aware of the mistake they made. Henley needs love and patience. Desperately. She needs confidence building and an opportunity to be a dog and not a status symbol. If you feel that your home would be conducive to her needs please contact this page.

Skye terrier Greyfriars Bobby died on this day in 1872. He died at the graveside of his owner, policeman John Gray, in Greyfriars Kirkyard where he'd supposedly sat for 14 years.

His memorial was unveiled in November 1873 and is Edinburgh’s smallest listed building.
