Gus is a dog that 6 months ago would have been lunging and barking on his leash at the sight of another dog or person in Public, now thanks to LAT a control unleashed skill he was able to get his CGCA title last night. So proud of him and Sarah! As well as everyone else that got their CGCA last night. #controlunleashed #lat #dogtrainingisfun #AKC #CGCA
This is Give Me A Break from control unleashed. It's a great game to teach your dog a context cue that when you turn your back they should come to you. We start by working in an enclosed area and then adding a helper, then working towards a slightly altered version with a helper. Usually Molly (the dog in the video) would be all over me if I got that close to her while she was off leash.
I’m working on chin rests for cooperative care as part of my training for the CCUI qualification. This is a behavior that gives the dog control over the environment. I will use the chin rest as a “yes” from her to go ahead with things such as grooming, nail trims, sharing treats.. the sky is the limit! As part of this communication I will teach her than lifting her head will cause the nail trim, grooming etc to stop. It gives the dog control and is a great tool for relieving anxiety around these kinds of tasks. Often just taking the time to help your dog understand what your asking and giving a way for them to communicate what they’re comfortable with, will help them.
Basic obedience class doing an excellent job keeping their dogs engaged at each “station.” The stations are fun activities to keep their dogs engaged and using their brains, practicing marking good behaviors with rewards. This is a great way you get your dog working well around other dogs.
Mr Redford who is here for board and train doing an excellent job loose leash walking with Fig and Bonnie around the Rockland farmers market.
Positive Reinforcement
Using positive reinforcement in busy and distracting areas is a great way to help your dog learn to focus and pay attention to you even when there is a lot going on! This critical skill helps you and your dog trust one another and can be essential when navigating hazards like busy roads or other dangers.
I posted the other day about the benefits of crate training. It is a great skill for dogs and owners alike and can create ease and calm when it comes to training, travel, and adjusting to new situations.
Since this skill is so beneficial, I'm excited to announce that I'll be offering a Crate Training Workshop on Wednesday June 8th at 6pm.

Preparing for our new puppy 🐶
This puppy has a habit of running up and biting her owners legs on walks (not aggressive just overexcited baby behavior). Here I’m trying to keep focus on me by changing direction, and rewarding nice left side heel walking with a high value treat. I don’t call her or say anything to get her attention, I just want I her figure out nice steps by my side get you rewards. She made a lot of progress, ready for her owners to try when they pick her up.
I wouldn’t describe Bonnie as “aloof”
Bonnie learned a new trick.

Goldendoodle down stay impulse control
Yeti practicing his down stay in a room full of distractions. One reason Yeti is here for board and train is because he has a hard time with impulse control around kids toys, luckily we have some of those! #dogsofinstagram #dogtraining #goldendoodlesofinstagram
Coming up with ways to entertain and exercise your dog no matter the weather is fun for all! Just be careful not to create an obsession when using your dogs prey drive like this. I also spent time calling her away mid chase to reinforce recall. Using your dogs brain and body in 1ft of snow! #getoutside #cockerspaniel #workingbreeds #snow #maine
I love having a great “place” command, it’s so diverse!
I love place training! It’s such a versatile skill! Here we have 3 dogs in place while the baby and I watch the chickens. This skill is being taught in the “door barkers and jumpers” online course starting in January!
