Big Mac is loving life outside the shelter! Soon he will be completing his heartworm treatment and then he will be ready for a forever family-preferably with someone that will provide lots of treats and belly rubs and doesn’t mind a 60lb lap dog.

Happy Deaf Dog Awareness Week! There’s something extra special about a deaf dog and I’m lucky enough to have known and loved quite a few. Deaf dogs are incredibly smart and intuitive and just as quick to learn (or quicker, if you ask me) than hearing dogs. Congenital deafness is more common in certain breeds such as the Cocker Spaniel, Bull Terrier, Cattle Dog and Dalmatian and is also more prevalent in dogs with white, merle and piebald colored coats.
Most people are intimidated by the thought of having a deaf dog but I can say without a doubt, they love their people hard and they are especially deserving 🤍

Maverick’s facial expressions are something else 😆 Mav is a recent pull from .scanimals and is estimated to be a year old. He is a little on the shy side and SWEET as sweet can be. We are still learning more about his personality but we already know he loves toys, food and a comfy place to snooze. He will be available for adoption soon!

Happy Gotcha Day to our sweet Kaia Bear, our very first rescue! She inspired our love for pitties and rescue in general and here we are - 8 years, 6 more dogs and 100+ fosters later. I wish she understood how much she’s impacted our lives and what eventually became FCRR, although I’m certain she’d resent it because she would be an only child if she had it her way 😆 and would probably give me the boot too. She’s 100% a daddy’s girl and has been since day one.
At almost nine years old she can still run faster than any of our other dogs. She has the kindest heart and has never met a stranger. Her face is getting frostier by the day but she’s still the prettiest little thing I’ve ever seen! ♥️

‼️Funds needed‼️
Lego came into our local shelter unable to use his back legs. He was found as a stray so how he wound up injured is a mystery, but x-rays show that both of his back legs are broken.
Our vet believes surgery to plate the worse of the two breaks will provide the best outcome for Lego. We are hopeful the other leg will heal with a splint but only time will tell. We don’t have an exact estimate at this time but we do know this will be a costly procedure and would greatly appreciate any donations toward Lego’s care. He is just a baby, only 12 weeks old and 10lbs, and despite what he’s been through he is such a happy, loving little guy. He was very cooperative for his vet visit today and gave the staff lots of kisses while he was there.
He is being kept comfortable until surgery day and is already quite spoiled (big pup cup guy!) and I will share more information as we receive it. Thank you in advance for your support ♥️

So.Many.Puppies.
In the last week and a half we’ve taken in seven new pups from two different litters. They’re all about seven weeks old and will be looking for their forever homes soon!
The group of five’s mama is a tiny labby looking mix ~30lbs and we have no idea about dad. Peanut and Almond are brothers and we know nothing about their parents/breeds.
If you’re interested in adopting please visit our website to submit an application and be sure to read our FAQs first! Puppies are adorable, snuggly and fun but if you aren’t up for crate training, potty training, teething/chewing and all of the other things that come with puppyhood, please don’t apply. We will continue to share more info as the pups grow into their personalities.

Update: adopted!

Handsome Heeler seeks adventure partner 🌿
Odie is a fun-loving, active, ten month old pup with lots of love to give. He’s a social guy that enjoys being out and about and playing with other dogs. He’s a quick study, currently going through obedience classes, and although he still can’t catch a frisbee, he does catch on to most things rather quickly 😆.
Odie is a great size at just about 40lbs, so he won’t take up too much room when he’s snuggled up with you on the couch. His ideal adopter is an active person or family that wants their dog to tag along on day to day adventures and understands that herding breeds like to stay busy. Visit our website to apply!

17/08/2022

Big Mac recently found himself at the top of the euthanasia list at one of our local shelters. He had been there over a month and the stressful environment was taking a toll on him. He started displaying unwanted behaviors which made him “next in line” as the shelter remained full, with more and more dogs coming in. Thankfully , one of our amazing fosters and trainers, refused to let that be his fate and rushed down to Lancaster County to save his life.
Big Mac has been nothing but a doll since leaving the shelter. We are taking things very slowly with him and allowing him plenty of time to decompress but it’s clear that environment had a lot to do with his behavior, which is something we see so often. Mac is about 6 years old and unfortunately he is heartworm positive (give your dogs preventatives, people!) so it will be a bit before he is healthy and available for adoption. So far, his favorite things include belly rubs, bones, lots of treats and soaking up every ounce of love and attention. His sweet smile just melts us and we’re super grateful he’s here ♥️.
Heartworm treatment is time consuming, painful for the dog and quite expensive. Any donations toward Mac’s treatment would be greatly appreciated!

Update: Adopted!

Introducing Ted Lasso 😄 This super cute, super tiny dude came to us from underweight and very lethargic. We initially thought he may have been injured, but discovered he was severely dehydrated. Fluids, a good diet and a few weeks of TLC and Ted is looking and feeling so much better already.
He’s estimated to be 1-2 years old and he’s only ~7lbs 🥹 He could use to gain a little more weight but he has received a clean bill of health. He’s sweet, silly and pretty simple - he just wants to hang out with his people. He very much enjoys his foster siblings too!
If you’re looking for an adorable little lap dog, please submit an application on our website!

Happy Tongue Out Tuesday from adoptable Coconut 🤍 This little cutie pie has come such a long way from the mangy, shut down pup we pulled from the shelter and she’s more than ready for her forever family!
Coconut is 6-8 months old, house and crate trained, she loves other dogs and is also being fostered with a cat and a kiddo. She is super sweet and friendly with everyone she meets!

Clementine: How’s dis?
Y’all, I really can’t believe Clementine has been with us over a year. She’s a giant goofball, a total sweetheart and she’s so incredibly deserving. Huge thanks to for my favorite photo of the day, which perfectly captures Clementine’s silliness. Please share and let’s get this girl adopted!

“You killed them?”

“They were murdered?”

“Find it hard to believe you couldn’t find rescues to step up.”

“Why did you have to post this?”

These are just a few of the comments I read across various platforms this week, after one of our local shelters openly posted about being forced to euthanize for space.

Yes, they were murdered. Yes, they were killed, & do you think this is something the shelters want to do? These folks dedicate their lives the animals. They often work weekends & holidays, they see & experience things that are unimaginable & hard to stomach & spoiler alert-they aren’t paid a whole lot. This particular shelter has a VERY small handful of paid staff & a few incredibly dedicated volunteers. They handle everything from day to day care, vetting & intake, adoptions, networking with rescues, social media-all of it. Then sometimes, despite their efforts & for reasons completely out of their control, they have to say goodbye to the animals they pour their hearts into.

If you think shelters aren’t trying their hardest you’re living under a rock & if you think this isn’t happening at shelters all over the place, think again. They aren’t all sharing publicly, in part due to the scrutiny they face from the public, which is ironic because the community is where much of the problem lies. It’s not as easy as “finding rescues to step up.” We are full too. Fosters are hard to find & reliable fosters are VERY hard to find. Everyone begs you to save the high risk dogs-those with the medical issues, the behavioral issues, but once they’re safe - then what? Everyone wants to see them safe but no one wants to foster or adopt them. Shelters, nor rescues, have unlimited resources. Even with an army of rescue partners, fosters & adopters, shelters would barely be able stay afloat because the animals just.keep.coming.

Without a massive effort from the community, this will never change. Stricter laws need to be in place & people need to take responsibility for their pets, starting with spaying and neutering. THIS is why shelters share these things, in an effort to educate the public & bring light to a major issue that so many turn a blind eye to. Animals are being euthanized every single day. If the message we’re sending makes you feel uncomfortable, it should. If not, you’re part of the problem.

Update: adopted!

Sweet, spunky Maya was dumped at a fire station at a very young age. Thankfully she wound up in the right hands and was cared for in the mean time. We are totally stumped by Maya’s breed(s) as she’s 3.5 months old and only about 8lbs. Whatever she is, she’s absolutely adorable. Despite her size she is quite the athlete with a huge personality! She loves zooming around the yard, chasing her foster siblings and exploring with her foster mom and bonus-she happily sleeps through the night in her crate!
Maya would love a home with some outside space and/or an active adopter that will keep her on her toes. To apply, visit our website!
