Abeys' stud farm, American Eskimos I am a registered breeder with Dogs and aim to breed healthy active pets. Our lines have proven their excellence in the UKC and AKC show rings.

The American Eskimo is a truly outstanding breed, and is second to none in intelligence and spirit. We owned our first American Eskimo since 1969 and have been breeding and showing these wonderful dogs since 1980. We take pride in offering puppies and dogs whose backgrounds are known and have been extensively researched through several generations of Champion/Grand Champion pedigrees. The ideal do

g is created by the relationship formed between the person and and the dog. It is important to undertand that perfection in conformation, or a pedigree filled with Champions does not guarantee an ideal pet. The personality required to become a successful conformation Show Dog can be difficult and challenging for a first time family to adapt to. In the Conformation Show Ring, the "attitude" of the dog is very significant. Dogs that perform the best in the Conformation Ring have attitudes that are very curious (always wanting to know what is going on), very energetic (they like to be in perpetual motion,) and constantly demand to be the center of attention (they will create a scene to draw attention to themselves!) Fortunately, nature provides a variety of attitudes in each litter, and even though puppies have correct conformation, all of them do not need to become conformation show dogs. We have first hand knowledge and experience dating back 6 to 10 generations of the dogs ancestors in our breeding program. These bloodlines have well known dogs in the pedigree. The selective breeding process allows us to combine proven dispositions and physical characteristics that produce a well rounded, socially adaptable puppy/dog with an intuitively pleasing personality. The "total dog" concept is the most important aspect in breeding. Each dog is a unique being. The traits of the ancestors create a pool of genes from which pairs are drawn in lottery fashion. The higher the occurrence of common/favorable genes, the more predictable the outcome will be. Our breeding program strives to produce happy, healthy, outgoing puppies with people pleasing personalities. With our first American Eskimo in 1969, the path to learning about the northern breeds, becoming involved with the Eskie, showing and later breeding became the path forward. The year 1980 marked the start of breeding and showing these beautiful dogs. At that time, we put together a selective breeding program with the goal of improving both type and temperament. We extensively researched our foundation puppies and dogs back several generations and kept track of the traits and personalities of the dogs in the pedigrees. Using trial and error, we worked with Champion/Grand Champion pedigrees, participated in State and National Eskie Clubs and partnered with fellow breeders. We developed our original "Teddy Bear" type in 1985, which are known for beauty, balance and and outgoing, people-loving temperament. Our lines have proven their excellence in the UKC and AKC show rings since that time. Our puppies have proven themselves from generation to generation to be very adaptable - and they love their "people." We produce family-oriented loving pets with the potential to do as much or to go as far as their "people" would like to take them. If you adopt a Teddy Bear puppy or adult, they are yours to take into the show ring for that Championship title, or into the obedience ring to demonstrate their remarkable ability to learn, or into the agility ring to show how well a dog and human coalesce to think alike and work together. Our breeding program has finished and produced over 100 conformation and obedience titles in both UKC and AKC! One of our puppies (Angela) was registered with the FCI as a German Spitz and earned almost 10 championship titles in that registry and placed consistently. Other pups from our breeding program have earned titles from competing in Obedience, Agility and other sports, such as flyball! Of course, these dogs can simply be loyal companions, they will happily soak up all the love and spoiling that can be lavished upon them. Some of our puppies have been in TV commercials, some were featured in Magic Shows, and many are certified as Therapy dogs and visit hospitals, nursing homes and schools.companion animal therapists. There are no limits to the relationship that you can develop with your Eskie. Puppy Adoption Information
Litter and Puppy Information:

Thank you for your interest in our dogs and our breeding program. It has taken many generations to gather and reproduce the quality traits that have become the Abey's bloodline. We strive to produce happy, healthy, outgoing puppies with people pleasing personalities, and from humble beginnings, we have selectively bred for Teddy Bear Type and people loving temperament since 1980. The number of puppies in a standard size litter varies from litter to litter
The typical number of puppies in a standard litter ranges from 1 to 6
The number of males and females always varies
Sometimes a litter has all males or all females
Sometimes there are no puppies
Standard Size - The adoption of a Standard Size Puppy is $1200. Small Miniature or Toy Size - No longer available. (No longer breeding the smaller sizes. First Choice Option - If you are looking for particular traits the first choice option places your reservation at the top of the waiting list. We offer one first choice male option, and first choice female option per litter. This option is an additional $50 added to the total at the time of adoption. Reservations and Deposits

There is almost always a waiting list for current and future litters. The waiting list allows adoptive families to patiently wait for their special puppy to arrive. This means that puppies are rarely available on demand and there is usually a waiting period. One option is to keep checking back for updates to the puppy page. On some occasions, a puppy that has been reserved might become available at the last minute due to a last minute change in plans. Sometimes there will be an available older puppy or adult dog. Please send an email to inquire . To be placed on the reservation list, a deposit of $200 is required. The deposit is applied to the adoption cost. The remaining amount is not due until the puppy is picked up, or just prior to making shipping arrangements. Reservation Details:

When sending a deposit, your name will be placed on the waiting list in order of receipt. There is a waiting list for the Standard Size, and a separate waiting list for the Miniature size. Please include your preference for male/female or first available. You are welcome to change your preference for male/female and size at any time. After the deposit is received, a confirmation will be sent via email (or snail-mail). Then comes the hard part - the wait for mother nature to provide a beautiful litter of Eskies. After the litter of puppies arrives, we take about 2 weeks to watch over them to ensure that they are thriving. Then, the families on the waiting list are contacted to see if the timing of adoption will work out for them. Then, as the puppies grow and mature, the personalities of the puppies are matched up with the new homes. This makes the waiting list dynamic. The family can opt to wait for another litter if the timing is not good, or if the personality match is not close to what they are seeking. Philosophy of Adoption:

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about our breeding program. We have been breeding since 1980, we love our dogs and have been blessed by how our bloodlines have developed and progressed through all of these years. We have and we have been very successful in producing high consistency between the puppies in our litters. Every puppy is a unique creature, a living gift from nature and from the Animal Kingdom. Part of their purpose is to share their lives, spirits and energies with us. They are living beings that embody the deepest form of unconditional love and commitment to their people, and in so doing, they bring honor to the American Eskimo as a breed. We don't see puppies as being a product of an assembly line or a manufacturing process. They have thoughts, feelings, affinities, preferences, habits and reactions similar to humans, but they are not humans, they have their own psychology and purpose. In many respects, they are like little children in dog fur. Each one has strengths and weaknesses that are inherent in nature. They have a soul and are linked to an ensemble of destinies and family paths that heal, absorb negativity and help to bring balance to the earth and to the lives that they touch. They live by example to show us how to live in the moment and they try to teach us to live each day to the fullest, one day at a time. They enrich our lives in more ways that we can ever know, often absorbing stress and negativity from our daily lives so that we can be stronger, healthier, and more fully resilient to life's changes. Each puppy is adopted to loving homes and families. The adoption fee is put towards the cost of care and maintaining the facilities for all of the Eskies, Horses, Cats and other animals that share their lives with us. Adopting a puppy is a very serious commitment that should become a long term relationship. Adopting a puppy is something that should not be taken lightly. When adopting a puppy, you are opening your life to share it with an incredible living creature. You're opening your life up to changes, adventures and experiences that you might never have imagined... or planned on. General FAQs and Puppy Details:

REGISTRATION: All of our dogs are registered with the AKC (American Kennel Club) and the UKC (United Kennel Club - the first registry to record the husbandry for the American Eskimo.) When the litter is registered, a puppy certificate is issued for each puppy. In order to complete the registration for the puppy, the certificate must be submitted (with the registry fee) to the AKC/UKC. Registration also includes giving the puppy a Registered Name. Once the registration is processed, regular registration papers are issued. The AKC allows online registration. Both registries (AKC and UKC) provide the option to purchase a pedigree that shows the ancestors of the puppy going back 3 to 7 generations. The purpose of the registry is to maintain animal husbandry and breeding records. The registry also records show points for championships and titles for conformation, obedience and other sanctioned activities. HEALTH INSURANCE: The AKC offers pet Health Insurance (veterinary coverage up to $1500) for a trial period when the AKC registration is processed. The option to accept this coverage must be activated shortly after the permanent registration papers have been issued. MICROCHIPS: Every puppy is microchipped for identification purposes. The microchip number and the papers to transfer the microchip to your name are provided. This can provide peace of mind if your pet becomes separated from you. Vets and shelters are able to read the microchip number, which will enable them to return your dog to you. FOOD and SUPPLEMENTS: The puppy's food and NuVet supplements are provided to help the transition go smoothly. NuVet can be purchased online and the link is available at the bottom of this page. The puppy's food should be poultry based (not lamb or beef) and be made up of 26% protein and 18% fat (from poultry fat.) Carbohydrate sources should be whole carbs such as whole grain brown rice or whole ground corn. Some food brands that meet this description are Diamond Premium adult formula, Pro Plan Puppy, Blue Buffalo and EVO. TRAINING TIPS: A good way to prepare for adopting any dog, the TV Series "The Dog Whisperer" by Cesar Milan is highly recommended. The series is found on the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CHANNEL. Watch several episodes to gain insight into dog psychology. Humans often transfer feelings and thoughts to dogs, however, this can confuse them and bring out poor behavior traits. This series is a good way to learn about how to understand the pack philosophy of dogs and how to adjust your energy and environment to bring out the relationship that you have in mind. TRAINING: To assist with care and training, a Purina Puppy Video is provided to assist with caring for a new puppy, and a Natural Training video will help you get your relationship off to the right start using natural methods. WORMS: Worms and parasites are creatures of nature that have lived along side (and inside) plants and animals for thousands of years. The conventional way to control worms and parasites is to interrupt and break the lifecycle. Breaking the lifecycle is difficult, because wormers are only effective on the adult stage, not on the cysts or larvae. Therefore, wormers only eliminate the adult parasites which cysts continue to wait for the animal to become stressed or the immune system is challenged (this occurs after vaccines are given.) The lifecycle for Roundworm (white worms that resemble spaghetti) is quite insidious. Roundworm cysts migrate to the mammary ducts of the mother and are transmitted to puppies almost every time they nurse. There are many types of worms and parasites that can affect puppies such as hookworm, whipworm, tapeworm, coccidia, giardia, etc. Management of the environment and limiting exposure and stress is part of the equation, but these organisms have been around for thousands of years and are present in our daily surroundings, whether they are seen or not. To minimize the impact and effect of parasites, it is very important to keep a close watch on the health of the digestive tract to keep it strong and balanced. To that end, as part of our regimen, we use natural products such as colostrum, diatomaceous earth and natural supplements which help the puppy's system establish a balanced flora and encourages proper digestion and absorption, which in turn discourages worms and parasites. NuVet supplements help optimize and balance the puppy's needs by providing essential elements and nutrients that are not present in normal daily food. This enhances their ability to thrive and resist imbalances

VACCINATIONS: Vaccinations is a topic where there is an abundance of poorly understood information and advice that is fueled by fear factors. There are many options that can be used to acquire and/or confer immunity, but every option has a certain level of risk. There are no guarantees in this arena. Using these methods and educational information is provided. The adaptive immune system of the puppy does not begin to develop until at least 12 weeks of age, which is the major reason why vaccines fail to provide immunity when given at an early age. The puppies have material antibodies that perform this function until their immune systems mature and develop the capacity to create antibodies. Giving vaccination shots that contain deactivated live/dead virus before the age of 12 weeks can delay the onset of development of the immune system. These vaccines also suppress the innate immune system that responds to bacterial and systemic infections, which is often seen when intestinal worms hatch shortly after vaccination. To mediate this risk, we use homeopathic vaccine nosodes on a regular basis to help with protection. When vaccination is requested or warranted, we use the homeopathic nosodes to detox regular vaccines. Upon request, we prefer to vaccinate only for distemper and parvo. Most other vaccines are not warranted at a young age. In general, vaccines should only be given for prevention when a potential threat of infection is at hand. TRANSPORTATION:

The adopting family is responsible for coming to pick up the puppy. Most families drive to meet and pick up their puppy. While others make use of our pick up services. An air alternative is to fly into the St. Louis Airport (Lambert) and carry the puppy home with you in a Pet Carrier. When the puppy is accompanied, many risks and problems are minimized, plus scheduling is in your hands and temperature restrictions do not apply. Many adoptive families have chose this option and were very happy with the control over the outcome. At 10-12 weeks, a standard size puppy is about 8 inches tall and weighs 8-10 pounds. The puppy will fit inside of an approved carry-on for pets that is placed under the seat. The airline charges a fee for a carry on pet, so be sure to add this to the ticket. Tips: Absorbent potty pads, paper towels, wet paper towels in a plastic bag, window cleaner and plastic grocery bags for disposal are essential for keeping the carrier clean. Also, toys and chewables are a great help. If the puppy is too large to fit under the seat, then a small airline approved kennel is required and the dog will be placed in air cargo during the flight. Ground Transport - Any ground transportation arrangements are completely the responsibility of the adoptive family. Air Shipping: Unfortunately, it is not possible to offer this option. Please make arrangements to have a member of the adoptive family pick up the puppy. NuVet Supplements
We use NuVet Labs Products and we are also happy to recommend and help distribute this product. This product has enabled us to help increase longevity as well as quality of life for all of our dogs. These supplements contain a fabulously comprehensive formulation of herbs, minerals and antioxidants that are not readily available in food sources that are available today. NuVet is NOT a vitamin - it is formulated to enable the body's natural biochemical processes to work the way that nature designed them to. Supplementation alone does not work - the body needs a cyclic process that starts with consuming nutrients and enabling the body to manufacture the building blocks to maintain metabolism, immunity and replace cells that have worn out. The other half of the cycle, often overlooked, is the elimination of byproducts and toxins from the muscles, joints, blood and lymph as well as the cleansing needed inside the digestive system. The full cycle promotes health and well being. NuVet also contains herbs that are synergistically formulated to detoxify the body from pollutants and defend against free radicals that enable disease and aging. NuVet minimizes the amount of processing - the powder and tablets are cold pressed. When processing is minimized, the whole food nutrient benefits are maximized.
