The PetLintRoller™ Pet CareTips:
1. Regular checkups are vital
Just like you, your pet can develop heart problems, develop arthritis or have dental pain. The best way to prevent such problems or detect them early is to visit your veterinarian annually. Regular checkups are the most important way to keep pets healthy. Annual vet visits should address nutrition and weight control, as well as recommended vaccinations, parasite control, dental exams and health screenings.
2. Spay and neuter your pets
Every year, eight to 10 million pets end up in shelters in the United States. Some are lost, others have been abandoned, and still others are homeless. There's an easy way to avoid that number: Get your cats and dogs spayed or neutered. This procedure can be done as early as six to eight weeks of age. Neutering not only reduces the number of unwanted pets, but has other significant benefits for your pet. Studies show that it also lowers the risk of certain cancers and reduces the risk of a pet being lost, as they are less likely to roam.
3. Prevent parasites
Fleas are the most common external parasites that can infest pets. They can cause skin irritation, hair loss, hot spots and infections. Fleas can also introduce other parasites to your cat or dog. All it takes is for your pet to swallow a flea and they can become infected with tapeworms, the most common internal parasite in dogs and cats. Prevention is important throughout the year. Regular flea and intestinal parasite control, as well as heartworm prophylaxis in endemic areas, is important. Since some parasite medications intended for dogs can be deadly to cats, talk to your veterinarian about how to keep your precious pets worm- and flea-free - and safe.
