Julia's training sessions are wild. Any behavior you can put on cue is not a nuisance behavior. We teach all of our very vocal hounds to bark on cue so that we can ask them to stop on cue. Teaching a dog to do or not do a behavior is exactly the same technique. Teach your dog to stop jumping on you by teaching the jump cue, then the off cue. Teach your dog to stop biting by teaching the bite then the out cue. Teach your dog to be quiet on cue by teaching them to bark on cue. 4 and half minutes it took Julia to teach the baby. She used a couple of different training techniques here and a really cool one called "mirroring" Dogs will copy behavior for a reward so Julia "woofed" and she had the other dogs around to demonstrate a rewarded behavior for her. Puppies will watch what gets the reward and try it to see if it works for them. You tube dog trainers using the mirror method to get insane tricks from their dogs and if you don't embarrass easily try some.

I'm forever talking about how easy the dog training I'm not doing is. Training is simple, but dog training is NOT easy. For some dogs it's a full time job, and they require a lot of management. Others can be a little more easy going but all of them need a responsible person to make sure they are safe and all of their needs are being met. In order to do that, they need training. For me knowing the hard work of training is giving an animal an amazing life makes every session not only easy but really, really rewarding. If you change your mind about the work, it stops being work.

What a typical training session for me and my personal dogs look and sound like. This is the full session, about a minute. She's young, and we haven't practiced self-control enough for her to go longer without getting frustrated. Learning can be stressful, especially if you set your dog up for failure. I want her to love learning, so I have to control how positive the experience is for her. My older, more seasoned dogs can do a couple more minutes because they have a track record of success and reward, but even with a focused training session, doesn't go longer than 10 minutes. If you don't have a minute a day for your dog to have a significantly better quality of life, please don't call us. Dog training is super simple, but it takes a serious amount of commitment, and that kind of commitment has to come from love. Ultimately, you telling us you don't have the time is you telling us you don't love the dog enough for a minute of dedication to them, and we won't tolerate it. If you've read this far, you're probably one of the clients we love and respect for their dedication to a dog.
