Rusty & Furriends: Vegas Dumpsite Bunnies Rusty was sitting still, waiting to die, from being unable to move, except by dragging his hind end. We were urged by rescue friends to save him somehow.

HOW DID THIS HAPPEN:
(This is the abridged explanation) There is a dumpsite in Las Vegas. When it was discovered, there were upwards of 1,000 bunnies at the site. The bunnies rescued would have died if left there because they could not feed or defend themselves. BUT WHAT ABOUT....?? There are no viable, established rabbit rescues in the area and there is no one willing to accept responsibility fo

r such a large undertaking. For that reason, this is a grass roots effort to help the ones in most dire need with whatever resources we are able to raise on our own. The bunnies at the site get fresh veggies when their rescuers can go out to feed them and that's how these injured bunnies were recovered. This is about DOING something rather than waiting for someone else to act or expecting someone to step up while more bunnies are hurt or killed by traps, birds, or coyotes. There is no profit in rescue—only the reward of doing the right thing. WHAT NOW? Pinky has been adopted to a lovely animal-loving family in Florida. Rusty has gone to live at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Bella birthed a son, Normie, and they are a bonded pair. The ultimate goal is for them to find a forever home with someone who can care for them together. Pat is healthy but living with fused bones in his feet that will cause him problems in the future. Again, ALL will eventually require a furever home and/or willing long-term fosters. HOW YOU CAN HELP:

Oak was rescued as a teen right in front of the big Dumpsite Admin building. A little girl who was there that day when we caught him, named him. Got this photo from Oak’s human today 💜 Oak lost his bonded partner Smokey whom we had taken from our Vet Dr B & her clients after Smokey lost her original bonded mate, Oatmeal. We tried so hard to help Oatmeal’s parents and fundraised over $700 for an abscess surgery that ultimately she did not survive. Helping Community rabbits & working together with Dr B truly makes a difference

Willow provides an extra tasty treat for buns. It contains natural pain relief and we use especially pre, during & post GI stasis episodes. To aid digestion during scary non eating times, please offer both willow & alfalfa hay. Adult bunnies who don’t normally get alfalfa, may decide to nibble. To prevent your unwell bunny from having an empty stomach (causing gas to build up) use these nutritional aids to encourage nibbling and break the refusing to eat cycle. Dose with larger than directed amounts of Simethicone(infant gas drops) at the same time. Ideally you should be prepared when your bunnies are well by keeping a small bag of Alfalfa on hand at all times. Having to run to the store during a blizzard 🌨️ or late at night, may be too late.

When our fosters discover nommy Oat hay. Jet has a lot of nervous or anxious energy so chewing is a healthy diversion

New behavioral foster bunny, Jet has arrived. When bunnies are returned to the shelter or rescue from which they were adopted, they may need a reset. So as one of our shelter partnership missions, we strive to provide additional support for the buns who may not thrive in the shelter setting, especially in a kennel.

Forgot to post about our Shelter enrichment re-up last weekend. Also brought our behavioral foster Oreo back after4+ months. Hoping this time she scores a Forever Home of her dreams. Brought the Guinea pigs enrichment treat bags, new toys & re-did their enclosure hanging toys. Same for buns. Hanging DIY toys replenished, brought ample new toys, a couple stuffies & 6 new carriers for Bunny adoptions. Made sure Oreo goes home with 10# of her fav Oat hay, her Ombre bed, a super deluxe stuffy & a proper Hair Buster grooming tool! The shelter program support & our partnership means the world to our little grass roots rescue
